Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
robuko replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks for all your kind words guys. Don't worry, I will still have a Lego budget for this year! Lord Butters, I forgot to mention the Pharaoh's Quest theme which was excellent for tan parts and (dare I say it?) stickers. Yay for Sultan's Gate.! Do we have any volunteers to map out the plots, or shall we just throw it all together? I have no strong views, I'll just build whatever amuses me as usual. -

Welcome Lord Butters! To be honest, Kaliphlin style is what you want to make it. The PoP sets are an excellent source. Also Jabba's palace, the grand emporium are good. I got quite a lot of my moc bricks from brick link. Welcome Qiadris! We are very happy to have you here! Nice start. Welcome TUB32! Great to have Heinsen and his dog with us. Yes, Carson is an excellent builder. I have been pretty inactive lately. Happy news, we have a beautiful baby and I am now a count (woooooo!) But in keeping with what seems to be the curse of our desert lands, I got fired 2 weeks ago. Well, on the bright side I might get more building time. -
Beautiful textures here, so audacious to go for a largely monochrome build but the texture really justifies it. The lighting and photography are superb, and the rock work and base really stand out. Wonderful shaping on the upper tower and nice techniques, I really like the windows. UoP+1 for all claims.

Oh no, I'm very sorry to hear the bad new! Ska, have a good rest and I hope you have a full recovery soon. NM, thank you for looking after your father, I hope he to will have a full recovery before long. It sounds like you have had an excellent shopping spree! Well done to all who entered the life and death in Kali builds, they are all very striking and it's a brilliant contest. I have not had much building time, since the birth of our daughter but I am putting something together for the challenge, hope I can finish in time. Otherwise it will be a free build! -
friends is cool. We just got the city park cafe, should have picked up 2, it's great. But I digress, back on topic: There are 3 practical approaches: 1 it's a nice way to play with and teach Bella about stuff - this is best as an introduction I think because it nullifies the ridiculous price issue for you 2 yes it's for me (too) 3 suppress it 4 it is not really practical to put hobbies before people when you are a parent so don't do it! My advice is to go with 1 and then you can get your bridgehead into, this is great, I'm enjoying it too, maybe I should get one for myself. I think this would be easier for you. Another angle that might work for you is that most toys get junked but Lego holds its value pretty well so the real cost of ownership is actually very low (if you sell it). Good luck! Edit: tragic banjo, is that something that really happens? I have never come across it, all my afol friends are very broad minded.

I was thinking last night, Padme and Ahsoka would look awesome as minidolls.

I just picked up an iron man figure by Sheng Yuan, the copy of the NYCC version, as I was struck by the same paranoia on mine. You have nothing to worry about on this one! The plastic is very different, there is no back print on the head, the head printing does not extend above the curve, and the print on the back is different. The legs are a different mould entirely and so is the torso. Having said all that, the print quality is good, the metallic gold is very similar, the printing is not bumpy, and for hk$10 I spent on it is a pretty good deal compared to what I paid for the real one! Iron patriot is also part of the range of 8 iron men.

Thor 2 was quite fun, though Tom Hiddlestone was very under used and I missed Kenneth Branagh as director. Rather a light weight film. Jacob's Ladder was very very good, though I guessed the story immediately. I was not really put off by the horror bits, but I am sure that I would have been very scared as a teenager. Still a must watch. The Fisher King was gentler and deeper than I remembered it. Jeff Bridges should have got an Oscar for this, for sure. His performance was absolutely outstanding. The story is a redemption journey.

Congratulations Ska! And even more happy news in Kaliphlin, we had a baby girl yesterday. Night stalker, good luck with your studies and do pop in even if you are not able to build for a while. Kai, good luck on your travels! Gideon, my thoughts on sultans gate are exactly as you have it there. I am not sure if I will have much building time for a while though. -
Loving the new parts, especially those wheels and the chameleon. The mini dolls are a little bland I think, but good theme overall.

ANNOUNCING: Guilds of Historica Book II: The Civil War

I have a question on the challenge. How does the scoring system work? For each of the 3 challenges, is it about the single best entry, the average standard, or the average standard of the top n entries? Or something else even more devious? Thanks -
Love this, especially the spirals on top of the tower. Great moc!

That tiger set is amazing! So many great parts and 3 new moulds. I will be buying quite a few of those.
-
These look pretty good, I like the Merida, Cinderella carriage and Ariel sets as parts packs.

Welcome Thomas! I declare for the best Guild in Historica too! Who am I kidding, I couldn't go to another guild without you guys. With all the continuity we have here, I will continue to represent the various characters of the Petraea General Trading Company. Feels like I should have a new sigfig, but as Rasputin never did that much in book one, there might be more story for him, or more inactivity. Sigfig to come...... -
