Thanks! Last year my Winter Village entry was mostly gray and maybe a bit dreary on the outside. This year I went in the opposite direction. :)

Thanks everyone!!! Thanks much! I had never built a pitched roof like this before so I was surprised it worked out so well.

Looking for a ornament for the tree or a unique gift? Here is my entry for this year's Winter Village contest... a Glass Blower's Shop. The Glass Blower is showing off his skills for the village kids. The interior is a shop on the first floor with living space above: The interior of the workshop features a light brick in the furnace. Thanks for looking!

Thanks! That acoustic guitar is a gorgeous bit of plastic. I wouldn't be surprised if it inspired more music themed mocs. My moc modulars now outnumber my official Lego modulars. I have a pretty standard scale that I build to now which is in line with Palace Cinema and Fire Brigade. I like a variety of heights, but some of the official modulars are starting to look undersized and need some modifications. I added a 4th floor to GE but the floors themselves are relatively short so overall the building is shorter than this one. If I add a brick of height to each floor, I think it will match much better. The newer modulars need even greater modding from my POV which is probably why I've been kind of "meh" about them.

My latest modular is a music store from a city in the American midwest. (Sorry for the poor photos - I took them with my cell phone. My camera battery is dead.) At four stories this is the tallest moc I've done to date. The first floor is an instrumental music shop. Here it is next to Palace Cinema. The alley looks better when it's next to another building: Thanks for looking! More photos (including better images of the fire escape and cornice) can be seen on flickr.

Hooray! So glad this contest is happening after all. I always enjoy building something for it and seeing everyone's creative ideas.

Very interesting to hear your impression. Disneyland has one wide street with undersized, simplified fantasy versions of historical buildings all in a row. It's the undersized and simplified exteriors that bother me. Maybe I wouldn't care if I hadn't already been spoiled by the amazing, earlier modular buildings. :) I really like the idea of a small square with a few buildings crowded around it like one sees in Italy. Love the idea... don't love the execution.

I continue to be disappointed by the smaller, more cartoonish, Disneyland Main Street look of the modulars that started with the Detective's Office.... but I guess at this point it's time to come to terms with it. This one in particular looks like a movie studio backlot and.... hmmmm... maybe that's what I should do with it. Amazing parts and minifigure pack though. The new parts really expand the possibilities for MOCs. Certainly can't pass that up.

Wonderful! Feels like a scene from a movie. Hmmm... the little white terrier doesn't seem like the typical ranch dog... but I guess when your other choices are chihuahua or husky....

I'm excited. I really like this one and, like others have said, am surprised that Lego went with it.

You are right on. I'm not satisfied with the jumper and tooth trim at all. Usually I just let those things haunt me for a while and then I come back to them, but it's been sitting now for almost a year. Maybe I needed to talk about it. Maybe I'll go back to it yet. Thanks for the advice/encouragement. Thanks. I may need to be open to that idea. If I move it out of the lego lab and into the main part of the house, it will at least have a better chance of surviving.

You always do such great art deco! I like the contrast of older buildings set in the 1960s... gives it a great sense of time/place.

Actually there is a bowler hat you just can't see it from a top view. It's inside the display case under the middle counter. Thanks! The flower pot is made with a vintage technic wheel hub, two dishes, a bit of hose, a tile with a stud and a bouquet.

Thanks for the great comments! I moved it back to my work table so maybe I'm not quite ready to scrap it. Thanks! It's just a little short. I don't have a Brick Bank, but the size is probably similar. I also tend to think the recent modulars (detective office & brick bank) are undersized too. None of my buildings are empty, but I guess it could be a place for ghosts to hang out. :)

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
eliza replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I'm excited because the rumors of a large modular make a hospital more likely. -
I haven't had much time for building this year so I'm going to declare my London-style hat shop done (even though it still needs some work here and there). I'm posting it and adding it to my modular street. The first floor is hat shop. The black tiles on the sides are chalkboards for daily advertisements. I may create stickers for these in the future. Right now there is a sale on pith helmets (which are wonderfully stackable). You can't really see in this photo but the mirror piece from the detective office is built into the dresser with the clock. Upstairs is a small apartment with a bedroom loft reached by ladder. Thanks for looking! More photos can be seen on flickr.

You know a building is doomed when you start stealing pieces from it for another project. The interior is in ruins already, but I thought it was worth taking a photo of the facade to share. This was supposed to be a bank or maybe a library or maybe a museum. It's a bit undersized for a modular and that was bothering me. Inspired by this real bank in Staunton, VA.

I love novelty buildings! There used to be a lot of them here in LA in 30s/40s, but most are gone now. Wonderful, fun scene... your designs seem like perfect little worlds.

Wow... amazing work! Some of the most original and distinctive modulars I've seen, and they all go together perfectly.
-
You have made the most wonderfully eccentric city... so much humor and personality in every inch! I'm not sure by what alchemy, but these three buildings go perfectly together. Fantastic!
-
Amazing details! Certainly would liven up any city.

The detailed brickwork created by all the 1x2s is beautiful! I like how it's black/gray/white on the outside, but very colorful and playful on the inside. The wooden purple tub is a fun touch.
