Great combination of color and details on the exterior. I love the Chima tricycle idea too... it strikes the right balance of realism and whimsy needed in a Lego city.

Thanks everyone for all the great comments! Pick-A-Brick. I needed tiles and the gauges were the only ones available the last time I was at the Lego store. I'll use them in spots that aren't seen from the outside. It definitely wouldn't fit in with many towns. I am still building my town layout so I can design around it. Awesome... I'm glad you are inspired. :) Maybe come Mardi Gras time I'll post some new pictures. :)

My newest modular is a small hotel with a New Orleans French Quarter look. The first floor: Three rooms on the 2nd floor with a shared bath: The top floor apartment belongs to the owner - Mr. Good & Evil. His secret lab is accessed through the bookcase. And the back... Comments and ideas are welcome! Thanks for looking.

My latest modular is a costume shop. This is a full three story modular so it has the full height, but is only 24 studs wide. The costume shop is pretty small. The back room is where the costumes and there is a small changing room under the stairs. This Revolutionary War re-enactor is buying a hat to complete his ensemble. Upstairs are two one bedroom apartments. These have the luxury of private baths! The back with fire escape still needs a little work. Finally for size comparison with the Fire Brigade and my small Florist shop. I like a variety of building sizes. Thanks for looking!

I enjoyed making the small Florist shop so much that I've decided to do a few more smaller modulars. This month is a small Law Office... seems necessary in a city with so much crime. The first floor is reception. The second floor has desks for two clerks and a large window office for the lawyer. Here it is next to the Florist. Back still needs a little work... comments and suggests are welcome. Thanks for looking!

Yes, it's lime green which it seems is a bit of a controversial color. It may look a bit darker because it's surrounded with white. I get most of my tiles from the Lego Store Pick-a-Brick wall. If fact, I complained last time I was there because they had no tiles and my supply is getting low. Where does she wee? She knocks on the the door of the brownstone townhouse like everyone else in town!

I'm interested to hear how other people go about it. I build with bricks. I don't start with a plan. I kind of "sketch" a bit by combining pieces in different ways. Then I build a sort of rough mock-up. Then I rebuild, correcting problems as they come up. Then I fill out the interior details and continue to make modifications to the exterior if necessary. Then I put it on the shelf until I get the urge to modify it again. It might be two or three iterations before I'm satisfied.

Thanks for all the comments! Hooray for all the new color/piece combos that came with the Friends line. That gap is because the underside of mudflap doesn't fit directly onto a piece (studded or tiled). I might find a solution to this in the future, but for now I don't think the small gap matters too much. Unfortunately I got started with modulars too late and I don't have Market Street (or Cafe Corner or Green Grocer). Thanks! I think it would be great if Lego came out with some half modulars. I'd like to have a variety of sizes. I think I am going to add a railing to the stairs. I know the lack of bathrooms isn't realistic, but it is consistent with most of Lego's modulars.

Here is my latest modular addition... a small florist shop. At first I put the Lemonade sign up as a placeholder, but my daughter thinks it's a cute name for the florist/gift shop so I think I'm leaving it. Flowers for the shop are grown on the rooftop garden. Jack is weeding. Seems like any florist should look a little run down in the back. Of course they sell balloons and small gifts too. Small apartment on the second floor. Thanks for looking!

I guess great minds think alike. Mine are also on IKEA Expedit shelves.

Thanks! I think I am going to make a bigger version with nine holes.

Yes, they really add some nice texture. I was lucky enough to pick up a few Forest Police Stations on clearance last months and stock up on them. Thanks! And I see a couple more today. Lots of wonderful designs! About Par 6. Pretty mini. Thanks!

That train is wonderful! Very fun grouping. Good luck!

Here's my addition for the Winter Village Market... a holiday-themed miniature golf course. (A favorite mini-figure past time) This miniature golf course is extra-mini! Just three holes! The first hole requires some careful angling around a couple of presents. For the second, shoot for a hole-in-one through the base of the Christmas tree. And the last hole aim for the door of the gingerbread house at the top of the ramp. Thanks for looking!

I didn't base it on one building, but used a few photos for inspiration. The one with windows like this was a circa 1920 bank. So I guess to be accurate... this modular is 20th century faux neo-classical rather than 19th century classic neo-classical. I live in LA so maybe it doesn't look "old" to me without a touch of art deco. ;) Plus, as an artist, it appeals to me that the windows are the reverse of the building which is visually divided as short over tall.
