If the vehicle is meant to carry a cargo load or be heavy then leaf springs would be great to use for that. That's why you see a version of a leaf spring suspension system on all heavy-duty trucks. Shock absorbers are used to dampen spring oscillation and they also improve the ride quality in conjunction with leaf springs for front suspension systems.

If you use a pitman arm you will still need leverage to turn the portal hub. Pitman arm is definitely something the portal hubs are not designed to use well with. The rack and pinion setup is the probably the best path towards working with portal hubs. I can answer this with the first two sentences in this chapter on steering and alignment... The steering system in a heavy-duty truck is expected to deliver precise directional control of the chassis at both gross and unloaded vehicle weight. It has to be able to minimize driver effort while retaining some road feel. In lego terms the portal hub would need to be designed to minimize the pitman arm steering so that the leverage is in working rage of the servo.

LEGO Technic Robot Battle
Boxerlego replied to Rayjunx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, Im looking forward for this. The Robot look awesome. What are the ideas on Rules and regulation. Also what do you think of this idea called capture the LEGO brick or bricks. Its a team base battle where the team with the most collected bricks win. The core idea is to use the battle robots to protect the team brick gather robot that can be describe as a front end loader. That a little rough idea for you to ponder on. -
Portal hubs are good. They work great as a rigid axle member. Independent suspension with portal hubs appears to be to much for the axle set up around the portal hubs for intensive purposes. Zblj design is made correctly and is not affected by the steering problem you showing there in you situation. The presented U-joint issue is mitigated by aligning the center of the U joint with the pivot point on the portal hub. The wheel hub your working with the same does apply but it not the portal hub. The CV joint is the better option over the U-joint in the F1 hub case there. Notice how on the portal hub a portion of the U-joint is able to go inside the portal hub that is there so the steering pivot point can be right next to the portal hub other wise the same U-joint problem will happen on the portal hub as well. You probably have figure some of this stuff out by now. Yes there are better ways. You have basic idea you just now need to expand upon it. If you have good steering leverage on the portal hubs that will offset the bump steer problem with the portal hubs and the problem is solved to an extent. Another way to strengthen the axle design is to add triangulate suspension links in conjunction with the unimog ball joint. Then work towards having a proper suspension travel. Transferring both steering and drive from the body has its limits but its workable. You will probably need to have a some sort of telescopic axle connection that is able to expand and contract with the suspension travel.

Several reasons can be said about this. Tho specifically I believe having a variety of possible power method is the best way to go. Maybe when major manufacturing industry decides to phase out AA batteries that is when LEGO decides to stop making AA compatible battery boxes and when powering our models by the emitted radiation out of a cell phone antenna that will be the day.

Excellent table top battery box modification! Looks great! The battery box has a resetable fuse that limits the amount of current draw from the batteries. 6AAA batteries will work as good as 6AA batteries except that the operating time and load capacity will be different. You can bypass this fuse just by buying a 9V battery holder to power the receiver. I've seen up to 18 Volts out these batteries boxes and never trip the fuses doing this.

Magneto PMH Generator
Boxerlego replied to Boxerlego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here is my latest video of my PMH Magneto Generator. I been steadily working on this and made improvements to the generator and now with the additional PMH coil set the magneto is now able to generate voltages up to 120Vac of the 9V LEGO battery supply. One thing I want to elaborate here is how battery connections behave. For starters connecting batteries together to increase the performance of the DC motors. Now there're two ways to go about to improving performance for the DC motor. First Improvement is by connecting the batteries in parallel and this improves the amount of working time the DC motor is capable of. The second improvement is by connecting the batteries in series and this improve the amount of working power which means more better torque & RPM, this is how the batteries are connected inside the LEGO 9V battery box. Batteries in parallel combines the total amount of current and batteries in series combines together the total amount of voltage. Each of the connections with their own advantages and disadvantages. Also in this video I showed the hand crank dynamo which is the XL motor is capable of generating a continuous current enough to power the 5 pole DC motor to turn the permanent magnet rotor. What I want to point out what going on there is that the XL DC motor is able to produce a constant considerable amount of current for it given wire size and length as compared to the PMH magneto which use a little bit thicker wire and much more longer length and much more coils then what is inside the XL motor. However the PMH magneto generates way more voltage then the XL motor could at a given RPM. Now another series of test I did was towards the Transformers being power from 120Vac60Hz mains electric and comparing that with the same Transformer being power from the PMH Magneto which is also around at 120Vac but higher frequency 240Hz - 260HZ. What I wanted to look at here is transformer efficiency. PMH Magneto couldn't even support the 120Vac on the transformer and had a considerable voltage drop when connecting the Transformer alone unlike the 120Vac mains voltage which was able to maintain 120Vac supply. Now during the end of the video I connect two transformers together in parallel and I thought it was interesting to see that I was able to generate voltages up to 140Vac with 120Vac input power on the parallel transformers. -
Modifying Lego: Acceptable or Heresy
Boxerlego replied to eurotrash's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Another key point to consider when it comes to modifying LEGO is the beneficial use factors behind the modification. Now idealistically there are a number of beneficial factors that can be attached to the modification but does the positive out weight the negative here. In most cases you don't want to modify on LEGO when there is possible path of least resistance that requires no modification to be done to achieve the same thing. Take for example the modification on the Lego PF battery boxes Dr Spock made above. This is a great modification due to several beneficial factors like the 5.5mm DC electrical power connection that the battery box has and the various factor behind using a transformer over batteries. Powering the motors with the transformer has several advantages though there are some limitation behind transformers that don't stand up to batteries in certain cases. Transformers are good at providing a constant power output over time then batteries do and can also provide more power to make the motor turn over with more torque & rpm but that is all relative to the transformer rated output. Simply put the positive out weighs the negative here with Dr Spock battery box modification. Now I will show you a modification of mine where the positive and negative factors are both heavy in weight. Now below is a picture of a modification I done to the PF cable that is able to connect with a 8 cell 12V battery case and basically any other battery that has the 9Volt battery style terminal connection. Thought there are some limitation and dangers in doing this. Just because I can connect the receiver up to a 12volt battery case it doesn't mean the receiver will be able to handle that amount of voltage. Component wise I believe the receiver can only handle voltage upwards to 10.5-10.8volts and that is dependent on the variation of the receiver so its important to measure the voltage on the 12v battery case to make sure then supply voltage is with in the operating voltage range of the receiver is able to handle. This is the negative to be looked at because you don't want to destroy the PF receiver by the unfortunate circumstance where you put to much voltage on the receiver, Though in contrast to that you want to get the best operating condition out of the receiver possible more voltage more power available for the motor and that is the positive that is to be wanted here. -
Modifying Lego: Acceptable or Heresy
Boxerlego replied to eurotrash's topic in General LEGO Discussion
When it comes to modifying parts, I will say its acceptable but it depends on the part for me. Good example are the axle, to me the axles are perfectly acceptable to modify because the only thing to modified is the length If I cant find various ways to build with it I wont modify it. Another acceptable aspect I focus on when it comes to modifying parts is the quantity of supply, if it feels like a part that will be in production for a long time those are the parts I lean on to modify. -
Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?
Boxerlego replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Good analogies for magnets and batteries is that magnets are working like a water pump and batteries are working as water reservoir to hold the water that the water pump pumps. Understand that there is erosion events going on in the battery, so you cant really exclude erosion with something that going to involves batteries. Everything about magnets and batteries will make sense when you understand that Capacitors resits change in Voltage and Inductors resits change in Current. Now it just not that simple as a yes or no answer dealing with perceptual perpetual motion. Besides science has already establish a phenomena know as Persistent Current. This persistent current is regarded as an electrical current that doesn't stop in the wire due to the zero resistance in the wire created by specific temperatures. A simple "I want you to know the magnet stores energy in the form of the Magnetic Field" would have been nice . Don't mislead yourself into thinking the stuff I say involving magnets something as perceptual perpetual motion when its not. Edit: @Heppeng That was a typo and never was it aimed at to get anyone confused here. Just a simple typing mistake with spell check where pereptual turned in to perceptual.- 214 replies

Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?
Boxerlego replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Magnets are like LEGO bricks, Magnets holds together a force, collapse the force there's a source of energy. Now understand that the battery goes through a chemical breakdown which in turns produces a low voltage with high current; However, on the magnet end it behaves the opposite, the magnet can make more voltage but not much current. There are several thing to do and take in to consideration to get more voltage/current out of a battery or to get more voltage/current out of a magnet. Now to boil everything down and focuses on niche areas that can relate to each other, it can be viewed that it depends on how it is connected most of the time just like LEGO bricks. In electrical theology Voltage would be presented in terms of height and Current is presented in term of flow, put the two terms together can be described as a waterfall. Now the idea that perpetual motion don't exist could results from the fact that there is erosion in the environment and some day either the waterfalls dries up or just stops working due to the several events of erosion. What I'm taken in by is efficiency or making the most with what you have.- 214 replies

Testing the SmartBrick
Boxerlego replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great Video! I hope SmartBrick becomes reality and goes in to full production. The SmartBrick will probably be the best thing to control the PF Technic sets next to using if you have impaired use of your hands. Are you able to use your hands to control a joystick to move a wheel chair, if so then it will be easy to construct a Lego joystick around a phone to overcome the problem. -
Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?
Boxerlego replied to legoman19892's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agree with all that and I'm going to add to that, My question on this is, What does environment stand to gain out of all this? All I see is a video praying upon the emotional impulses of everyone to sign a petition telling Lego to end deals with Shell doesn't really do anything for the environment or does it, But I do think it is more a complex problem then it appears on the surface because of what Greenpeace does is so extensive that its easy to overlook the problem. Ending fossils fuel dependency would be a major mistake if it was removed completely. A good idea would be the phasing out fossils fuels and start replacing them with renewable fuels environmental friendly alternatives that can be made locally would be great for certain applications like personal transportation and other personal uses. Having a renewable source of energy is the goal and that is why I view the magnet as the best form of energy dependency because if a magnet loses its magnetic field, not much has to be done to restore its magnetic field back into the magnet.- 214 replies

Thanks, that explains why I am seeing my immediate comments vanish and are only here for me to see. They got to be approved first when they link to other stuff for reference. Thanks, That is great to know. I read the ToS for YouTube. It is incredible to see how much control youtube has give everyone over their channel, It didn't occur to me until I saw Just2good post. To me it appeared that YouTube was actively involved in hiding my comments from the public to see the second I post them, because I leave some comments and reply's on couple of videos and then I check to see if those comments are there and their gone. I didn't realize that the channel owner had to approve my comments because of the links which is most certainly the case here. Right, this is well establish knowledge. The only difference between a magneto and a dynamo is that dynamo has commutator. The fascination for Ed is what he left behind and what he did. My point is this, you can be anything you want to be on YouTube all you need is a camera or some means to record your computer screen and your set go to do what ever you want to do. What is YouTube going to do about it. Ed views on what the individual magnetic north and south pole is a hard one to get across because of how he describes himself. Ed is not talking about the magnet that picks up ferrous metal, what he is referring to is the positive and negative electricity. This is what Ed said in his advertisement for his book magnetic current, "To the electrical engineer the positive electricity is everything the negative is nothing, but to the physics the negative electricity is everything and the positive is nothing. Looking from a neutral standpoint they cancel each other out so we have no electricity, but we have something." Sure it might seem like I am wasting my time here but it is a hobby for me. I do see the levers, log roller and tripods in his book he also has a giant come along winch and that does have significance importance on how he moved and built his coral castle but it that rotating rock gate has always made me question exactly how he is able to do what he did there. He balanced a 9 ton rock and precisely set in place with a bearing that was able to last for quite some time all by himself as the legend goes. That is 9 ton gate is one impressive piece of work by all means. I understand, but there is a positive side to all of this and it is that I am no longer convinced that YouTube is actively suppressing my comments or videos. Sometimes things don't appear like they seem. I want to Thank everyone for your support on the matter.

Now understand that the title is a distraction to prevent you from thinking seriously about the subject matter, The real technical term for this machine is a magneto. I've even mentioned this in one of my comments for one of his videos and then some of comments were blatantly against this fact, calling it everything but a magneto. This is what a mechanical atom generator is, it is someone who disagrees with the truth. Understand that this replica of Eds machine is there to gain your trust so he can present himself as a since of authority on the subject matter. I've listen to his video and I will point out this, he has already said that you cant do with neodymium magnets and you need a special kind of magnet for this, but if you read Edward Leedskalnin book Magnet Current, Eds requirement is that the magnet must be good and strong capable of lifting 20 pounds or 9 kilograms. Evidence is evidence no matter how hard you down play it. When certain people blatantly tell everyone that they have a working hand over at Youtube that help prop them to be successful on youtube is evidence and makes me think how they are willing to do the opposite and wipe competition out before they get big. Take the topic space weather for example. There are many YouTube space weather channels there reporting on everyday space weather and most of them are not a real meteorologist and are just regurgitating information. Now how many people do you think care that much about space weather to subscribe to a channel on space weather updates. Not many, probably a couple thousand and that is it, Well there is a space weather channel that has over one hundred thousand subs and only brings in couple of thousand viewers. Search for the word "space weather" in the Youtube search bar and you will probably see a channel at the Top of that list. Do you see any other channels there in that search list. Understand that this is how they steer you in their direction they want you to go. This has nothing about how many subscribers there is or how many videos there are, Its about money and control certain of information. Now I want you to consider this, that the only way I even notice this channel is because of this that is there on that channel. It wasn't space weather that brought me there it was Edward Leedskalnin that did. Hi EvilTwin First some of Edward Leedskalnin Ideas has already been proven by Spintronics, however Edward tells us that he doesn't believe in the electron theory because scientist use ultra indirect methods to figure out the nature of electricity in that matter. Eds says that if you use the method that are in his book you will see that electrons don't exist and that electricity is really made up of north pole individual magnets and south pole individual magnets and you cant have electricity with out running the both currents against each other in the wire. Ed never talks about free energy in his books, he talks about the perpetual transformation of matter and how the north and south magnets are the basic building blocks of nature. I had to tell you all that first because of the massive misconception that is projected around Edward on YouTube and all that stuff Like free energy gets picked up like iron filling to a magnet and that illogical stuff gets promoted in his name which to me is a disgrace to his teachings. Even though Edward is a enigma to a degree he wrote his books very clear describing what a true magnet is. Even though Ed doesn't believe in the electron theory or the domain theory, theses term can still relevant in the understanding of magnetism. If you can understand both then you are on top of physics and to understand this you haft to consider that light was first consider as a particle but as time progress light became both a particle and a wave as our methods improved. Yes, this thread is a prime example how conspiracy are born if you let your thoughts not be governed by reality and fall in to a paranoid illusions. Understand that computers are very capable machines, some believe computers can predict the future, that will probably sound like a crazy conspiracy theory at first, But when you take for example how we forecast the weather today where we use computer climate models to predict the future weather events it is recognize as Real Science. But on the other hand Science is ready to discredit the idea the a human brain can predict the future weather with a sense of accuracy but if your a politician like Al gore and make your future weather prediction sound credible you can win a Nobel Prize, Oscar academy award and be Vice President of America all because of a simple conspiracy theory like global warming.

Absolutely. Not only is YouTube suppressing certain videos from reaching the public they are also suppressing the certain comments from reaching the public for the videos as well. I left a comment on this about how the Crystal Radio has a fundamental importance on Edwards Leedskalnins Magnetic Flywheel and the comment was censored for the rest of the public to see. Now my comment is there for me to see; However, when I log out my channle my comment in this video some is not available to the read and is gone. Now if you go to my Google+ page, my comment for the video is still there. Now here is where I need your help again. Now since I cant be everywhere around the world to verify if my comment is getting censored over there. It would be awesome to here from you if you are also witnessing the censorship of this comment, because what good does it do to make comments over on a website that is founded in America or the USA that intentionally limits American's First Amendment in the Bill of Rights. Here is another video "not made by me" explaining the reason behind this http://youtu.be/NRil87E--1Q Now you must understand that they are using science and other concepts as a tool to justified there reason behind censoring certain comments. Now I started my Youtube channel with this video cause I wanted to show that it works and not promote a channel with a list of video of my opinions. I even made a video where used a vacuum engine to hoist up 7.5lb or 3.4kg load and I calculated how much Watts my could produce which then can be compared that to a horse. Google wont recognize this fact with my channel when there censoring my comments.

Yep that's it. Even though it is a illegal technique it doesn't stop me from building with it. Awhile back I made a gear mesh using this sort of building technique on a technic thin liftarm and it was one of the most difficult parts to separate and was impossible to remove with this tool here , I had to use a very small flat head screwdriver to separate the two elements apart. I fine with the one on the right. Hi, welcome to eurobricks. Excellent find. That is awesome. Maybe the idea was to use this tool here to take the 1x3 plates off.

The Unimog looks fantastic. I have a question, is there a noticeable difference on the amount of current draw for the servo motor when turning with the custom portals hubs compared to the LEGO portal hubs. -
Excellent work! The way the V8 Engine looks is impressive along with everything else here.
