The end of studded parts?
Lakop replied to OleBM's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Studded parts are still used in the newer models, even if it's just a plate so i don't ( and hope ) they don't stop using them in technic. I'm using my studded parts all over again but i'm enjoying the studless parts just as much. PS: new lego store opened in Leeds at the new Trinity shopping centre. H -
Hi, I have some bionicles and Lego Heroes, I've recently bought some bricks from the lego store but it's all to compliment my technic collection. It's all about lego but I'm 90 percent technic. I started off with a horse and carriage set back in the late seventies. I still look at and admire the non technic sets like the hobbit sets etc. I'd like to build a technic fire station etc. H

Heavy Machinery Collection

Those models are fantastic. I've never actually built a JCB style model despite having several scoop parts. Lets all build one. I'm going ahead with one asap. I will post pics, now I have my camera. H -
How do you start your MOCS?
Lakop replied to Lakop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, if you've not seen my moc of 8280 http://www.flickr.com/photos/lakop -
Hi Guys, Having put my first moc online (it's the 8280 B model) http://www.flickr.com/photos/lakop I'm now hooked on the chassis. It's got something land rover about it. i've googled land rover conversions and there are so many. I will try a six wheeled version, a military version and I will keep going and see what I can do. This design has got lots of potential. I will see what, if any, functions I can add to it. Maybe a small pnuematic. Thoughts, and your own mocs, more than welcome. H

I would like to see that little car. i will be reading the story H http://www.flickr.com/photos/lakop Just had a quick look at his car models. I would like to see him go radical. In my brain I will do a concept style model at some stage. Once I get through my other ideas. I'm still in the early stages. H

Nice detail. Where did you get those silver parts or have you coloured them yourself? H http://www.flickr.com/photos/lakop -
Lego Technic 2h 2013
Lakop replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
A cement mixer would be a challenging build. Looking forward to the new sets. I'm torn between the crane and the tow truck. H- 902 replies

Lego Technic 8280 moc
Lakop replied to Lakop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, I don't have the set itself (hence the yellow wheels) but i'm please with it. I think a six wheeled version is required. H -
Great build. I was looking out for something like this. I will add it to my ever growing list of models to build. H http://www.flickr.com/photos/lakop

Hi guys, What started as a refresher has now developed into a full blown model. I've done an updated 8280 B model (see images on my flickr page which i've just set up). Please let me know what you think. It's taken about 4 weeks on and off. i've added "proper" steering from the steering wheel. A 1 cylinder motor. a rear differential and a foam tank, which lifts for access to the diff (but not shown) it could probably be motorised. Interestingly, the chassis has opened up so many options. I've based it on a land rover fire vehicle. I saw a six wheeled version many moons ago. More models will follow. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lakop http://rebrickable.com/img/sets-b/8280-1.jpg H

Welcome, I would say that you are in the right place. If you're looking for inspiration, advice and ideas then eurobricks is the place. It has certainly helped me as a returning builder. What I would say is that studless is odd numbers (3's, 5's, 7's, 9's, 11's, 13's and 15's) whereas studded was more even numbers (2's, 4's, 6's, 8's, 10's, 12's, 14's 16's etc). I'm working on something at the moment and I'm using both. But as it's mainly studded i'm having to ensure my odd numbered studless parts fit an even numbered studded part. Example being the roof of the vehicle is what I call "twelve wide", (twelve studs wide), so using a "nine wide" studless beam across the roof is not straight forward. Hope that helps. H

How do you start your MOCS?
Lakop replied to Lakop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi Guys, I'm back. I had to go offline just after posting. Wow. So many different ways of acheiving the same thing. I asked the question because I'm working on something this very miniute, well, it started yesterday. Many moons ago and before the internet I would buy instruction manuals from lego just to see how they did certain things and to inspire. Browsing recently I found one model that was just asking to be built. Anyway, built it and it was not what I was expecting, however, the B model was showing some potential, so built that and eureka! It was just asking to be modified. So that's what i'm doing. Pictures will appear when complete. -

Manchester Lego Store visit
Lakop replied to Lakop's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Personally I use the lego website to purchase technic parts. It's much better now as they have a dedicated "buy a part" section. The only downside to the stores are the lack of technic but I think the shops are for the younger market, which is fine by me. They never had them when I was a kid.
