An entry for Mitgardia, "Ormr hinn víðfǫrli": http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=94934 (I don't know how to make a link with the text Ormr hinn víðfǫrli... so... yeah) :)

This is the Mitgardian longship "Ormr hinn víðfǫrli" (The Far-Travelling Serpent). It is owned by Sigólfr Brímabani (at the steering oar) of the Wyrm Clan. Because of the current unrest, they built this ship to be able to defend Mitgardia from attackers. Sigólfs best warriors are at the oars. Their names are Gunnarr, Óláfr, Friðþjófr, Þórólfr, Egill, Þórsteinn, Úlfr, Stýrbjǫrn, Snorri, Starkaðr, Kári, Bjólfr, Ragnarr and Ívarr. In the bow they store water, beer, fermented herring, crisp bread, fermented and soured milk, dried meat and other delicious food that you need when you go viking. They also keep the spears in the bow, but midships they have swords and axes. In the stern is an idol of a god of water and journeys at sea. (Technically this is no longship, since its width/length ratio is ca. 1:4.5, which makes it a Karfi (which wasn't a ship of war). But I didn't have more of the prefab hull pieces so I couldn't make it any longer. A real longship should be at least 1:6 and have some 30+ oarsmen.)

This looks really good! But I would advise you (and a lot of other fellow shipbuilders) to turn the flags the right way (i.e. forwards! The wind comes from behind.) :)

My latest purchase was a used Fantasy Era "Dwarves' Mine". I am really pleased with that set, although three of the bricks I got were more used than the others... I.e. being much much older than the set... Fortunately not vital pieces.

It's the torso from the Evil Dwarf collectible minifigure. It is really cool. It works really well with zombie heads too.

What an entry! This is great for a first MOC, and it really captures the feeling of the scene from the movie and at the same time retains the overall feeling of the Lego set. :)

[MOC] Hræfnesburh (Ravensburg)
Sigolf Brimabane replied to Sigolf Brimabane's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks for the kind comments :) At first it was actually supposed to be a (mediæval GoH) pirate island... but then I (more than my brother) got the urge to make a classic castle. So we made a castle instead. We have had it standing around for a few months and wanted to dismantle it and Balder has finally risen again from Hel and given us light so we could photograph it x) Our next build will probably be for GoH. A friend of ours wants to build together with us so that will be fun.- 13 replies

(First off: I apologize for the bad photos. I'm not a good photographer and I use a mobile phone camera. Built my me and my brother Erikur.) This is the castle Hræfnesburh of the "Feohlecgscipe þæs Sweartan Hræfnes" (Fellowship of the Black Raven). They are an outlawed Templar order of fighting monks. The monk Wuduwin and the witch Ælfreda: Here we see the leaders of the Fellowship, Garulf and Wulfgar: The troops:

I've tried that and although it kind of works, the technic pin sticks out a bit too far... I'll try it and see how it looks with more shields.

I'm using these and I want them two studs apart from each other, and I don't want the gunwale to be broader thicker than one stud:

I did start on a viking ship before I heard of this but I couldn't come up with a good way to attach the shields whilst having lots of oars on the sides :(

MRN actually sounds (a bit like a disease, but) great x) So if there isn't already such a ship naming thing, MRN would be cool. The MRN Dragon or MRN Mitgard :P

I doubt it (without knowing). But since Historica is pretty much medieval you could do it Viking style with names like "The Long Serpent" (Ormr hinn langi) of Ólafr Tryggvason and such. He also had a ship called the Crane (Tranan) and the Short Serpent (Ormr hinn skammi).

They could focus on the Danelaw with the Danes fighting against the English : P Then the Danes would be good and the English would be bad. Just like in real l... errr... Yeah. -
There's always been a lot of slavery in the Middle East too :/ But, the Vikings had thralls (who in some regards had it a bit easier than other slaves) and they still made an okay Viking theme. I can't see why they couldn't do the same with the Middle East or the Romans. The Crusades part is probably a big hinder here and the modern politics, it would be a sensitive subject I guess.

Wouldn't the god of berserkers (and ulfhednar) be Óðinn? Óðinn (Wotan/Woden) means fury (german Wut, Old Norse Óðr). I'm not too sure war paint would be historically accurate. Isn't that more Pictish? The figures look great, though :) -
And the Vikings could come to some marketplace there in Serkland or Miklagard :D Would be a hit (y)

As a Viking/Anglo-Saxon nerd I'd of course love this. What would be nice: two new types of helmets, i.e. conical with nose-guard (and aventail?) and a spectacled helm. And new swords, or they could use the gladius. New shields would be a plus too. :) And we all would want some womenfolk and civilians. We would never get an "Attack on Lindisfarne" set though x) And Icelandic settlers don't really make for an action filled range of Lego sets. Vikings aren't typically associated with fortified structures but forts played a huge role in the wars between the Danes and the English. And they could keep the mythological stuff. I have a hard time seeing this become reality though. It simply will not happen... (so we thought of LotR too :P). But since there already was a Viking line, I doubt we'll ever see another, lest there come some really popular Viking film (the horrible Vikings series isn't included in "good viking films") x) There are some good old Icelandic Viking films but they won't be made into Lego. And somehow, Vikings don't really seem to be too good on screen. They could of course make a movie about Harald Sigurdsson against Harold Goodwinson in the battle at Stamford Bridge. -
Haha, this is awesome. It's a shame this doesn't exist in real life :( Would be even funnier to watch than hockey! :) Regarding the Olympics...... GO SWEDEN!!! :D
