[WIP] project C.O.R.E.
agrof replied to agrof's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Another batch of parts landed, I could finish the axles, which turned out pretty well. Buildable, stiff enough, steering and suspension (strength and height) work as planned. If I press it in the middle, the axles go with, despite the very loose connection (as it is now). I have ideas how to reinforce, for that the middle bottom section will be rebuilt... couple of times for sure. Less good news: my back hurts. More sport, and less legoing is planned, so the project timing will be stretched for n/a. -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion
agrof replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I really like each B-models, great job TLG! For me 42070 offers 2 proper crawler bases, great! (B-model reminds me a bit to Madoca's Jeep Mighty FC.) Something like 42069 B, I have had plans for long, now there will be the opportunity to build it in orange (on 42038 basis). 42068 is jut lovely, looks like a great partner for 8053 in playing actions. -

Some parts are arrived, little progress happened. Well, as assumed in this phase (and probably will be the situation later too) it is quite flexy, but not that much, as I thought. It seems, that for the Bison I sucked out all of my portion for 2017 of "Holy LEGO Rigidity" from the Universe, and that much left... Actually it can not fall apart as I shake, even can handle the weight of a FJ40. I will see what can be done for more stiffness, but it looks so sexy, I wouldn't like to ruin the look much. At the end of the day, if it can be pushed here and there without falling apart, than I will be satisfied. -
[MOC] 1955 VW Beetle RC

Looks good, drives good, no reason to being blue... Great small MOC! -
Just read the article, they did the test with 46 km/h - it is also written in the video description. So yes, this test was pushed to the extreme = top speed frontal accident. In the front axle picture I can see some more dents on the dogbone, and injured 1-1/2 pins (tan in the bottom), but all in all I guess the damage cost is microscopic compared to a real Porsche in a real test. Even if we scale the damage itself... From this perspective, I can say, it is pretty impressive how well the 42056 held up. A lot of energy was absorbed by disconnection of the parts, I wonder if a scaled impact at 5,75 km/h would really make any major issue... somebody would like to give a try?

The Technic Confessional
agrof replied to Didumos69's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have enough parts, I have lot of ideas (not only Technic), and I am too lazy to sit down to build actually... Is there bigger sin, than owning things, and not to use them?- 121 replies

That would be my suggestion as well, according what spring is used (small or big), you could try to use pneumatic cylinders: You should short circuit them by linking them together - or even the two inputs on itself. Only watch out, how you set up them: to slower the "kick" of the springs, I would make them "fix" in closed position, so as they are pulled, the relative vacuum works against the spring's force. Still, setting a pump into the system is a good idea, as this cylinders leak a bit, so with time the effect will be gone.

[WIP] project C.O.R.E.

Small progress, I made a sandwich bottom for the monocoque, and also revised / added connections for better rigidity. It was tricky to find a buildable way, but there it is. The axles are also updated, now the toothbars are secured in each directions. HERE is the updated LDD file (V1.2), as I rebuilt it, there is no flying parts around any more. There is still a lot to do and redo, I am really curious how much flex remains in the final solution... -
[WIP] Tracked Digger
agrof replied to Aventador2004's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I also like the white version. It is not proportional, not like any real excavator, but there is a solution for that: just call it "Concept swamp sci-fi digger". Never mind about it is not realistic, through such builds You learn a lot, and building improvement comes in dozen. I would like to see it in a longer video, and even with actual digging action (beams, pins). -
[MOC] Pistenbully 600
agrof replied to Pingjong's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Welcome here, proper start for introduction! Nice Moc, only thing from my side: the blade could be wider. I like the comparison pics, but the seat looks like it has been adjusted for a romantic grooming with the driver. How smooth are the tracks rolling?- 4 replies

[WIP] project C.O.R.E.

I made some thinkering on the engine design. Probably I will build each, and check in real life which one is more appealing. I lean to the brick built one (left), as it has more realistic ram-air intakes. or maybe this color scheme, with black engine frames. -
Starter Technic Sets for Kids
agrof replied to ExcelsiorUK's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
https://brickset.com/sets/42057-1/Ultralight-Helicopter, definitely a good starter for an airplane fan. also this one: https://brickset.com/sets/42061-1/Telehandler https://brickset.com/sets/42048-1/Race-Kart https://brickset.com/sets/42032-1/Compact-Tracked-Loader All of these sets have printed instructions for B-models, very playable, easy to build yet very rewarding, and also can be find around for cheap. I do believe, daddy will enjoy the builds and play as much, as the son. I did. -

Thanks for the kind girls words! The recipe: take an engine with the latest MotoGP technology (~250 HP), add a bit more torque according taste, mount it into a chassis, which weights max 400 kgs, fire it up, bag for your life. I can not fix the flex tubes properly, so I will leave them as they are in LDD. This is the temporary place of the engine, but I guess I will find a way to fix it, goal is to make it easy to connect and disconnect. EDIT: I figured out a better fitting code name, which refers well to the puritan build: project C.O.R.E. aka Concept Of Radical Engineering or Concept Of Ride Essence. -
[AMS-1] Crawlify Your Set
agrof replied to letsbuild's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@MangaNOID and @JTS, pure awesomeness both models! The PneUnimog is really hardcore, and the choice of 8258 B-model... damn, that pick-up looks badass. -
Great project, I love these dense builds. The color scheme is also a very good choice, and looks well balanced. Maybe for the hood You could test something like 9397 has, in smaller scale.

Me too, parts are ordered, in two weeks we will know more. I neither feel it very strong, but strong enough. The final stability will be increased by connecting the axles, and I have free connection points to add structural parts to the bottom. For sure a lot things will be changed, as there are some modules left to be added. I try too keep the look as clean as just possible, and keep the "kit-racer" feeling, even if I need to sacrifice some strength. Here is the engine, I would like to implement... nice task to get it into LDD, if at all: -
Lego Technic Facebook page

Looks like the Porsche is the 40th year milestone according that picture. I think this is just the mandatory online presence for Technic, keep awake people's attention with small inputs, and get them involved as "member" with small-talks.
