[TC12] The Toaster
Thirdwigg replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm glad everyone likes it so far. I was a little hesitant about the chucking the passenger seats, so I'm glad people think its a fun wacky feature. I just made a bricklink order of a gazzillon blue 3x5L liftarms, which felt a little weird. @mocbuild101, I should state, Thirdwigg Racing cares about the safety and well being of all race participants, fans, and spectators. No persons will be allowed to ride along in The Toaster or harmed in a race situation to allow for proper and safe seat ejection. I'll move to work on the front of the Bus tonight. I need to clean up the hood, and make the engine look even more wild. Also, @BrickbyBrickTechnic, I managed to get the front entry door to work. I'll show that soon. -

Is there anything worse than another MOC with blue 3x5L liftarm seats? Yes, a MOC that throws them at you in a wacky race. Getting closer.... -
I like it. I don't mind the holes, and I like the rubber bands. Does the assembly match the scale of the rest of the tank well?

I like the new tires, and the black looks sharper. I'm really liking the spoilers.

Sorry, I guess I'm a little anxious to see the stinger arm too.

@Didumos69 I'm happy I had an effect on the project. The panels on the rear looks good. If you are interested, one of the initial thoughts I had was to replace the upper 3l axles on each side of the upper #2 connector on the back of the motor with 4l axles, with a red axle connector on each side, with a 4l bar in Trans red inserted into the axle connector. This may give it a little more width, while retaining the light and airy look. Regarding the front, the two panels look overshadowed by the "nose" and look a little squeezed by the tires. Can you mount them in front of the wheels at the same height? Maybe replace the two 1x3 liftarms with 3x3 L liftarms and mount the panels on a longer axle to move them more forward and out. I appreciate your collaborative design process, and the resulting design is better because of it.

I'm loving those seats, and door panels. That tan looks great. -
I'm liking all the parts, but it would be great to see it start coming together. I love the concept drawing, so I'm am looking forward to how it comes together.

Stunning video, and stunning creation. I love the purple and yellow. Also, I love the use of magnets. It would be great to see those return in some sets, and in MOC more frequently. Very cool. -

Turning a school bus into something wacky has been a challenge. I'm currently working on making it more wacky with limited success. I'm working on the opening door now. Still finalizing the design. Glad you like it. I was not aware of that character. I'll try to incorporate some of the design themes as I am able. -
Thanks for giving it a try. Still a great design.

I think I understand. That will make mounting the panel tricky. Let me see what I can do.

I'm not sure what you mean. Would the 5x7 be mounted "pretty side" in? Or since they are mounted with a small tilt inside at the top do you meet to mount them more vertical? I'm willing to try your suggestion. I'm not sure I will keep the 3x11 panel. I don't like how it looks at the back of the car. It ends a little too abruptly.

I like the lights lower. While I am liking the look of the car, it's missing a visual transversal horizontal element. The Car is missing width. Could you add something simple over the rear wheels that gives a little visual width? What about adding a simple rear light bar or spoiler made with the #21 panels?

I guess I have been a little distracted from this project, but I'm back to it. I'm working on the bodywork right now, and trying to determine some of the external parts, so I can finalize the interior. The two sides show two drafts of styling. The top has the sills facing down and with different panels on the front and rear quarterpanels. The bottom has the sills facing up, with a another option for above the rear wheel. Thoughts? The roofline will still need to change, as will the C pillar. Closing up the trunk and rear bumber area are next on the list. I keep playing with the front grill, so we'll see how that settles.

[TC12] The Toaster

OK, a little more work has been done. The body is starting to take shape, and I have two drafts of the wacky function inside the bus. Overall the appearance is not too wacky, so I'll need to work on that. I'll keep moving forward... -

Thanks all. I spent some time on the project this weekend, and the chassis is all done. Steering and driveline is in and working well. No more changes will be made to the suspension, and the frame will only have modifications as the body starts taking shape. I spent a lot of time on the attacking side skirt. I guess how it worked in my head still missed some parts that were needed in reality, so it took more time than I thought. Either way, it's in, and it working well. See a small flickr video here. I'll show a picture of The Toaster as it currently stands, later tonight. -
Please tell me it will be colored like IcePlanet 2002.

When I was in high school, we had a little bus; we called it "The Toaster." We had big buses for the large football team and various student "schlepping," but the Toaster was the perfect size for a cross country or soccer team. But, boy was it hot; the short wheelbase and many windows fused shut allowed for virtually no air movement in travel, and it would spend all day baking in the hot Arizona desert. Hence the name. But this bus holds a special place in my heart, and this contest is a great way to visualize my fantasies of the ultimate racing bus. What would it be like to give the bus a stupid big engine, and some sport tires, and make it visually hot? So here we go, a project to idealize my perfect Toaster with some fun features to gain an advantage in a wacky race. Features, all manual HOG Steering Rear Wheel Drive V-12 Fake Engine (Power!) Attacking Side Skirt Bench Seat thrower (because you can't throw children) Emergency Exit Side Door Stop Sign (because sometimes diplomacy is the best option) More to follow...
