@Seasider I know, I have a thing for flat engines. I guess I am making a signature for the company @letsbuild. If I move the engine back, I'll move it behind the axle. Otherwise it will be too tall, and it will look like this. No good. I guess being a 911 is not all bad.

Glad you like it. I sent the LDD file, let me know what color combinations you came up with. I want to see something in a M3 Blue. We need more flex hose colors!

I loved the building process for the 3T Sports Sedan so much that I started another car. The 3T car needed a friend, and like every car maker who creates a competent sedan and follows it up with a CUV, I will too. Nope. I'm making a sports car. Again, this will be a mid-scale manual sports car with following features in order of priority: Suspension Rear wheel drive HOG steering Steering wheel Sequential 4 speed transmission (currently this one, thanks @Didumos69) Mid engined Flat 4 Discrete gear-change function Design language similar to the 3T Here is the first draft with a Porsche Cayman in the back of my mind, and you'll note a couple of problems already. The suspension is set, and will not change much. The hardpoints are also set, so the wheel base will not change, the rear overhang, height, and width will not change, and the seat and steering wheel placement will not change. Everything else may require some shifting, such as the length and front overhang, and internal placement of components. I do not like the HOG placement, and connecting the steering wheel is going to cause some problems at this point. So I could move the transmission back to the center of the car, and connect the steering wheel and place the HOD on the dash. I could also move the engine behind the rear axle which could lower it by one stud, and bring 6 pistons. But then there is no way this does not finish as a 911. What do you think. Move the engine to the back? Or keep the cabin of the car cluttered with steering and drivetrain parts? I do not have a solution for the changeover yet, so will be coming once I know where everything is placed.

The car is finally finished! You can find full instructions here, and much more can be found at thirdwigg.com. Lot of thanks to @Isamudyson for help with the instructions and the LDD files. The work was top notch, and the work was much better than anything I could have done on my own. The instructions were done for the car in red, but you can build it in black and orange as well. I'll build those soon. Again, I ended with the following: Four Wheel Independent Suspension 2 Speed Transmission HOG and Steering Wheel Flat 6 Engine Opening Doors, Hood, and Trunk Mostly Toddler Proof (My son has a propensity to removing the trunk) Lots of pictures can be found on my flickr site, but here are a couple I liked. The Chassis Everything Open The Chassis with seats installed. I loved this project. I'm already building more cars at this scale now.

Generic Contest Discussion
Thirdwigg replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm a big fan of constrained contests. Keep a part count or a size limit or something. @Seasider sorry I made the 911 with such few pictures to go on. I guess I should make another one, and make proper instructions. -
Friends, I am ready to publish this car, but would like to make instructions for it as well. I usually do photo instructions, but I am interested in creating something a little more polished to make public for everyone, Anyone interested it making an LDD file based on the photo instructions I have? Send me a PM if you are interested in helping.

Technic 2019 Set Discussion
Thirdwigg replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Seasider I guess I should have made instructions for my little 911 when I took it apart a couple of years ago. I guess it has about 1000-1200 parts based on some of my other MOCs that are about the same size. It's not out of the question for me to have 42096 have a gearbox. 42093 would be a stretch. -
Great MOC, and thanks for sharing. I must confess, I find the 50mm tires frustrating for the comment you share: For a 15 wide truck, I have started removing the differential and running the drive from only one side of the wheels. It's not optimal, but the wheels don't fall off. I use a 5.5 with stop axle on one side, and a 8 with stop axle with a bevel gear on the other. I have used this here, and here. These trucks need TLG to develop a 5.5 axle with stop that is 7 or 7.5 long. Here's to hoping.

[MOC] Unimog 437
Thirdwigg replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@I_Igor the Fischertechnik tires ae 80mm in diameter, so they are a little large for the scale. This was intentional. I have used the 8z to 8z portal axles in the past, and I was not willing to do that for the front in this MOC as it would require an increase in scale, and thus would reduce the overall look of the tires. I wanted them to look imposing. @mpj the scale is about 1:17.5. @sirslayer thanks, I thought about DBG for the frame, but I settled on black as it was more menacing. @mandylion7 Thanks. I don't do LEGO Ideas, but others are welcome to make their own versions as they see fit.- 28 replies

Well this took a turn. I was looking forward to a street bike, but this turned out great. I was a little concerned the transmission was going to be too wide, or would not work well, so I'm happy with how this turned out. I love how the changeover is connected to the foot pedals. Again, great work.- 36 replies

[MOC] Unimog 437
Thirdwigg replied to Thirdwigg's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
All, thanks for your kind words. I have enjoyed this project, and I am happy others have enjoyed it too. @I_Igor it was conscious decision not to do the portal axle or torque tubes as it would increase the size of the MOC. I was not pleased with the drivetrain of the U90 that I made, so those were the first features to go. @Doomer Tires are Fischertechnik, and you can find them here or talk to @rm8 . @Edwin Korstanje I am always happy to hear others have a soft spot for Mogs. Seeing your Mog makes me think I need a fire truck body and cab for this MOC. I'll add that to my list. @zux there are 4 studs between the SWB and LWB versions. These pictures might help the best. All versions are still built, so if you need something else, let me know. @agrof It's the details that are fun for me. Glad you like it. @steph77 Thanks again for your support and I am happy you find the design "absolutely stunning." Thanks. I have been drawn to the common platform on some of my recent builds, as it offers more playability, and can grow with ideas from the community. Getting all the attachment points consistent can be enough to kill a project, but the final design is worth it. Feel free to use the tipper bed as it works very well. It's a little long, which caused some problems in the SWB version. Correct, I think our styles are similar as find many functions (suspension, steering, control, design) work cleanest at this scale: too big and functions get gummy, and too small functions go away. I'll keep building at this scale and I hope you do to.- 28 replies

[MOC] Unimog 437
Thirdwigg posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I guess you could say I couldn't make up my mind about the kind of Unimog I wanted to make next. So I decided to make a platform that would support multiple versions. Features: Interchangeable platform Long and short wheelbase options Standard and Doka cabs, removable Manual control PF control (drop in) Front and rear suspension Steering 4x4 with I-4 fake motor Opening doors and hood Tipper bed options Feel free to check out thirdwigg.com to learn more about the build. Manual SWB with tipper bed. Manual LWB Doka with tipper bed. Power Functions (XL drive, Servo steering) LWB with cover. Manual LWB with canvas bed showing the suspension travel. You can find more pictures on my flickr. I have been adding instructions for the various versions here, and more will be added over the coming weeks. Someday I'll make a camper, because, everyone needs a camper. This was a fun project, and I loved the way it turned out. I have the LWB on my desk right now, and I keep getting distracted from work. I hope to add additional options for the system at some point, and will take other suggestions for versions to add. Hope you enjoy.- 28 replies

Thanks @TechnicRCRacer and @Boulderer. @Leonardo da Bricki The doors, trunk, and hood were sitting off to the side. They are all done, though I may give the hood one more edit. The little thirdwiggs are much better as squishing the MOCs rather than disassembling them or taking the doors off.

BMW S1000/RR

This is looking better after the second drafts. I build the same way, one model to keep the mounting points and body work, and a second to perfect the internals. I hope the transmission works with the new parts.- 36 replies

I am now 13 months into this project, and the end is near. Two weeks ago, I finished the bodywork in a way that is acceptable to my eyes. So I decided to rebuild the chassis in a way that supports the final design rather than one that supports the creative process. The final chassis (near) is much stronger, and has added some improvements to support the final bodywork (far). It's not perfectly form locked, but it's toddler proof resistant (goal 8). All other goals have been accomplished. The final model should be presented soon (though I said that a year ago), and I might make both a black and red version.

Technic 2019 Set Discussion
Thirdwigg replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
How exciting. I'm always excited about a new helicopter, and I was a fan of 8068, so an improvement on that would be great. I'm interested in the small Super Car. This could be a fun little set, but the price puts it right with 42075 which does not offer much. I'm curious... I liked 42039, so if the GT car is similar in execution, it could be interested. Hopefully it's a bright color too. Also, December 1 sounds great. -

Of note, I think the 3x7 red curved panels are new color, so this would be an interesting new part for me. Otherwise, thanks for your review, I find them helpful, and the written format is easy to digest in between work.

Thanks for this fun little MOC. The bodywork is spot on, and the mechanics are well executed. I it's OK with you, might have to try and recreate the body with a manual drivetrain, the new 1.2 tires from @rm8, and a pickup body.
