  1. Thanks! I got the roof technique from Mark of Falworth (who got it from some one else ). Thanks! I was pretty happy with the way it turned out!
  2. Not so much the grundel I suppose, (though he doesn't strike me as really going along that well with previous Ninjago releases), but more some of the other things that were suggested. And maybe I'll clarify what I said a bit; it's more like they wouldn't fit in with the target age and the fact that it's an action theme (I'm thinking specifically of Ed & Edna's Jalope, but there are others that fall into the same catagory IMHO.
  3. Thanks, I agree, this could well be one of my best (though that may not be saying much)! Thanks! You guys are probably right about the chimney, I just wanted to make it taller than the roof (though not all the Winter Village sets were like that), but I could probably drop a few bricks (it's pretty low down on the roof anyways). No, I don't have a lightbox (wish I did!) I just took them in the shade. I'm glad you like them so much, I wasn't too impressed myself (except with the first and last ones) though they probably turned out better than it would have in the sun.
  4. I don't have too much problem with it, more that I already have plenty enough for me, but in general it's not a stellar looking lion face and much below current standards. But I kind of doubt that that's actually going to be the logo used; even if it is what shows up on the boxes (and it looks slightly like it, I suppse), that's still preliminary.
  5. Looks quite nice, especially like the tan! I like the style and roofing as well. Any ideas as to the price?
  6. Yeah, guess you're right, but I was talking more about the front; I liked the facial pattern.
  7. The (2013) sets are now avalible at the US Shop at Home.
  8. right-side-up again!

How did I know you were going to mention that? ;D

Crazy stuff is dangerous. If I never mentioned it, you would have thought that I went on without feeling proud for him!

  9. The gorrillas look pretty cool. I always loved the shape of the CMF monkey, and it looks like the same mold but with a bit of blue. They're probably my favorite tribe (from what I can see) after ravens.
  10. I'll agree with most of the rest of you that these don't look stellar, especiallly compared to kingdoms, but after all there's hardly anything visible! I kind of doubt that LEGO would return to the lion king shield (at least that's what I always called them) since apparently it doesn't have any apeal for older fans and younger fans just wouldn't be going for such a thing. The small forest set looks the nicest, at this res. I do agree with whoever it was that suggested that this line might be aimed more at younger fans since LotR is geared more toward older kids. I would like to point out that though the Castle's box does say 6-12, the text next to it says 7-12.
  11. That Chi temple looks pretty nice, and the smaller eagle set, though at this size it's hard to see much. I can't see the video either though... Edit: What happened to my edit? Oh well, I can see it now, thanks Meiko!
  12. Thanks to the three of you! Yes, I wasn't quite sure how to do the chimney (I almost forgot it!), I did use an awful lot of plates. Out of curiousity, how much do you follow what I build? I think I've only done three or four builds in the Town forum, and I don't recall seeing you anywhere else. Thanks for pointing that out! Good, now I don't feel so bad...
  13. There's a Classic Set Re-imagined catagory in this year's CCCX.
  14. By far my favorite of the Speedorz, as I really love the ravens and the idea of a ring of fire is awesome. The metal on top of the Speedorz isn't quite doing anything for me, but I suppose it fits in with the raven idea. Love the card artwork though!
  15. This is one of my least favorite of the speedorz, both because of the (IMHO) silly looking lion and the the picture a Chi Waterfall (I was imagining something gourgous!) called up in my mind. However maybe it's not so bad! Certainly it looks easier than having to go up a ramp... Thanks a lot for the review, now how to play makes a lot of sense - one cool feature I see is that you could easily drop either the card part or the other part, which ever suited the occasion. (Eg, this is something that could easily be played in the car (as long as you aren't the driver!) with just the cards, but then for some one who wants a less complicated game using just the vehicle and no cards would make it easier to explain.) I take it the blue ball is a bit rubbery to allow for bouncing? or is it just normal? In which case I suppose it wouldn't work as well on carpet- though that was to be expected. Anyway this review has made me want a Speedorz (though not necessarially this one) more than ever!
  16. Thanks for the review, one thing I wanted to point out is that the US Shop at Home prices it at $34.99, not $39.99. I'm still really not sure if I want it. The raven section is very cool, but I don't know about the interceptor itself, just doesn't seem my cup of tea. It does look better here though, and has some neat pieces.
  17. Great re-build, SK, love the way it opens and shuts! Nice wall texture as well!
  18. Warm up after a break in the snow at the Winter Village Restaurant! Help deliver today's supplies and feed customers! Have a nice cup of hot chocolate or build a snowman! Set up the tree or pet the cat with this new addition to the Winter Village! (I believe the piece count is about 680. I may have messed up somewhere in there though!) Interior features; table, two chairs, smaller set-up (table and bench) with turkey, end table, chimney, stocking on the wall, light brick, plus an upstairs featuring sink and cabinets. All of the crates/barrels/pizza boxes can be loaded onto the truck. Accessories include: Two crates with one apple each + tops; Larger crate with three fish packed in ice (trans-clear 1x1 round plates) + top of crate; Three pizza boxes + one pizza and a 2x3 yellow plate so you can open one pizza box; One barrel with cherry + barrel top; One turkey, complete assembly, One red mug; One shovel; Seven minifigures (owner, truck driver, customer - lady, three children, waiter); Skis and ski poles; Christmas tree; Two small presents; One large present; Cat; Snowman; Stocking; Light brick (top of building); Carrot (bottom only). I took the "similar in style... to the previous official TLG releases" as seriously as I could, so here is a list of the similarities: Using a wooden door - Winter Village Bakery (as this is a similar type of build, I wanted to make that the same). Leaving gaps around windows - Winter Village Cottage (admittedly they aren't that big. But I didn't want to balance a piece in there as I'm fairly certain that LEGO wouldn't do that). As far as I know, TLG has never used SNOT for flooring before. However if they did I'm sure it would be attached to the baseplate, so I made sure to do so myself (all the rows are attached which allows me to attach the various pieces of furniture. Nothing has been left loose - not even the Turkey). None of the Winter Village sets have stairs, however all of them have half upper stories. Red and green decorations - each Winter Village has it's own variety of decoration that it uses multiple times. The Toy Shop used round green pieces with a red dot off to the side; the Bakery round green pieces with a red dot in the middle; the Post Office, trans-red and trans-yellow 1x1 pieces; and the Cottage used a red bow design backed by green as possible (and a second variety, a 1x1 green plate with a 1x1 round red plate on top). I used a green corner plate with a 1x1 round red plate where possible, and on the windows an inverted 1x1 green plate with a 1x1 round red plate on the bottom. Using logs - each Winter Village has used a specific brick multiple times that has not been re-used in the others (or, if it has, in a very different way or color). The Toy Shop used inverted slopes for the windows; the Bakery used arches; the Post Office round windows/foundation; the Cottage profile bricks (it is somewhat of a weak point as I used profile bricks, but in a different color). Putting a colored stripe (awning) over some area - Winter Village Toy Shop. Grey foundation - all but the Cottage used grey for their foundation. Every set has included a bench (except the Cottage) and a light post (but always different). Using a non-white roof and then adding snow - Winter Village Post Office. Most of the Winter Village sets have included only two female characters. There are other similarities, but that's probably way more than you wanted to know already! On the similar in style, weak points are: I used lots of CMF pieces for the minifigures. I was not able to include a row of lights on a string (which has edit: not been done in every Winter Village set so far). The snowman is almost too similar to the one in the Winter Village Toy Shop. My apologies if I got a little long winded. There's no need to read it all! Thanks for looking, comments are appreciated!
  19. Great model sdrnet, especially love the fountain and your use of the new profile bricks to add texture! The brick-built doors also look good, and the interior looks suberb!
  20. Great job! Especially using the sausage for the mouth, as mentioned before, neat hat too!
  21. Nice re-do! The doors especially are much improved, though you did make the set considerably bigger with the baseplate and foilage, it adds to the effect. Great SNOT steps to the tower as well!
  22. I don't think so; her dress looks much more regal (the other one looked like it could have been a pesant's!) plus on the instruction scan from Brickset she was the head of the eagles: Legends Of Chima minifigs by hmillington, on Flickr Edit: A couple funny things; Only Laval, of the lions, has a Chi or even Chi-holder, while every since one of the eagles has a Chi-Holder (obvously because otherwise they wouldn't be able to have wings), and all but the Queen have Chi inside. For comparison, here is the "evil" side: Legends Of Chima minifigs by hmillington, on Flickr Apparently each tribe will ultimately have five members at least; though it strikes me that Wolves might not make it there if they don't have a King (of course they could have a king. But not necessarially).
  23. All these positive comments are really making me curious! Any chance you'll upload pics to your Flickr soon? I can't see what you have now...
  24. Nice scene, thanks for the good wishes! I plan on throwing a feast for my Sig-fig and as many others as I can find faces for! Like the red and white on top of the background trees!
  25. After his capture, Raz soon noticed that the man who seemed to be technically the leader was little more than a prisoner like himself. His companion, Tardiff, watched everything he did as closely as possible. After walking for miles on end, they finally reached a small hut located in a clearing pleasantly situated by a beautiful lake. Presently the woodcutter came out of his house and saluted the two, raising his eyebrows at the sight of a prisoner. "Come in, come in!" "No, but rather you come out," objected Kaflar, the leader. "I want none of your cramped houses. Give me the open air, and I'll be content." The woodcutter obligingly fetched a few cups and the trio sat down at the table to talk, or perhaps merely to have a good time. They seemed not to care for Raz one way or another. It was true that he was chained up securely, besides the fact that his wound still gave him pain, but he still wondered at their utter lack of consideration of the possibility of his escaping. For a while he tried to think of other things, without paying attention to the noisy group beside him. But gradually the sun sank lower and lower in the sky; apparently they had no intention of leaving today. At last the only light to be had was from the stars and the moon, and so Tardiff dragged Raz inside, where they both lay down. But Kaflar pulled the woodchopper back quickly, out of earshot. "Listen," he began, "you know I don't half like this; you know no one will suspect you, just give me provisions and let me go." The woodcutter looked somewhat surprised. "Alone?" "No; I wish to take the prisoner with me." He shook his head decisively. "The man is wounded. He could be of no help to you. Tardiff is fast; he will notice your absence at once." Kaflar tossed his head impatiently. "What are you saying?" "Better to wait. Have patience. You know the system; follow it. Come here to me. Try to arrange a time when Tardiff has other things to concern himself with. For now, we must go in. Your time will come." Kaflar frowned. "I do not wish to wait. But listen; you will speak of this to no one, for anything." A few gold coins added effectiveness to the command. The woodcutter bowed his head in acquiescence as they entered the hut; then the darkness held possession of the scene. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I think this was pretty much my first tree (there was one in the Botanical Gardens, but my brother did that one). I hope you enjoyed the story! Feedback is appreciated!
