[OL - FB] RNTC - New Spices for the Old World
Bregir replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great looking vegetation, KB, agricultural and wild both. The overgrown paths/down trodden grass is very effective, and I like how it is interspersed with jungle. While I agree the water isn't perfect (and that the tiles should have been turned 90 degree), I really like the shores and the rocks, including the use of cheese slopes for rapids. Good luck to the RNTC! Well done. -
[OL - FB] RNTC - Pioneers at Home

Lovely little house, KB. If anything, it is too nice for the colonies! The use of plates for walls, including the white corners, is very effective, and I like both the lovely gables and the roof. It is cool how it is built into the jungle. Well done! :) -

Will someone be hung from their toes due to differences in clearing dates? I really doubt it. -
I'll echo Ayrlego's comment and say that it looks very lively for such a small scene. I like the stacked up crates, the minifigs and the little stands. Tiling off the roofs or possibly using some curved pieces might finish them off better, though. Keep it up! :)

The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to Sebeus I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Campistron: Fabulous to see a different sort of character here! I am pretty sure we haven't had any theatrical gentlemen so far. (Discounting the continued, involuntary theatrics of Eslandola.... ) And tensions with the faith - what's not to like! -
I think it may be a residual of a very early system, that is popping up again. :) Don't think it really belongs anywhere.

For the record, if one licenses an Art and Culture property, the second page of the webform asks a million questions about what type of product is created. I am pretty sure my art and culture is neither volcanic byproducts, nor rice...

With King's Harbour growing, its rising number of inhabitants has started looking for spiritual guidance and refuge. Therefore, the Faith has opened up a temple in the settlement. While nominally a Temple of Poseidon, and served by his priests, it is practically a Pantheon, allowing worshippers of Zeus, Hades and Poseidon alike. Most likely, as the settlement grows, temples will be erected for each of the three deities, as well as for other religions of the Brick Seas, but for now, one must do for all believers. On this day, Ibn al'Sayeed is visiting the temple, to offer worship to his God. Being native to one of the southern realms of the old world, his religious views are known to very few, but he has been frequenting this temple since its opening. Whether he is worshipping one of the three known Deities, some foreign version of one of them, or something entirely different is known to few, as he does not discuss it openly. What everyone know, though, is that he is the manager of one of the most succesful estates in New Terra. Adding to that an entrusted position as Montoya's right hand man in the ETTC, and his assistance to the governorial seat of King's Harbour, his days are never dull. Al'Sayeed considers his career with some degree of pride. It has been hard work, starting out as the lowly captain of a small xebec, the Sphinx, but now risen to a considerable position in business, respected and known by many accross the Brick Seas. He does have plenty to thank his Gods for, whoever they are. Outside the temple, at all times, two priests of Poseidon are stationed, tending to the temple and aiding the poor passing by. In King's Harbour, however, their sacks of bread and other necessities are hardly ever touched, as very few are in need of their services. Instead, they walk the settlement after their shift at the temple, handing out bread to a hungry guardsman, a worker at a factory, or a kid underway from school. When the greater charities are in low demand, smaller acts of goodness must fulfil their days. _____________________________ King's Harbour needed a cultural property to progress, and Ibn al'Sayeed needed some screentime, as did the faith. And here it all is, in one build. C&C is, as always, welcome. Thanks for looking!

You seem to have miscalculated the discount for the 1T for Nova Terreli. :) -
Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nothing is frowned upon, I would say! And I think they may blend rather well, in fact. I would suggest you try giving the gun deck a bit of a curve, raising the guns at each end a plate or two in height. That might make it easier to integrate the stern and bowcastles into the hull, and help you maintain the sleek lines. I am not sure I have the right "model" in my head, but I think that might help anyways. You can also look up some galleons, for further inspiration. In reality, a lot of these ship-types evolved from eachother, so there would be all sorts of variants in between the "archetypes". Also, always happy to help, so just keep them WIP's coming. This thread is specifically for this, so don't be afraid to "clutter" it up. (Goes for everyone) -
Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)

@Umbra-Manis: I agree - it looks much more harmonic now! I would suggest changing the bowsprit to a 1x1 too, as it it looking a bit clumsy for now. Otherwise, looking good! @Legostone: I think that colourscheme is absolutely fantastic, and those headrails are looking fabulous. Your topmasts and topgallantmasts does appear to be sagging a bit foreward, but that might just be an illusion. Also, I would probably leave a little air between the sails and the lower yards. It looks a little odd when it entirely covers the space between yards. @Sir Stig: Good to see a new face here! I think that is definitely going somewhere. Size looks about right for a 4A, and she appears to be fairly well armed! The thing in the bow you are talking about is called the beakhead, and could need an adjustment. Are you working by pure inspiration, or do you have a specific type in mind? Or even a specific vessel? (Picture, plan, etc) Considering the size and overhang, plus a considerable beakhead, I think I would suggest you look up some pictures of xebeks for inspiration. I find that a few pictures for reference can be very helpful, even if maintaining considerable artistic license. I would try to avoid making her stern any higher, and probably leave the gundeck open, that is, not have a deck above the guns, but it depends on where you want to go. If you are thinking a carrack or caravel, things look a little different from for a xebec. -
I would deliberate on Corrington's advantages in length, but apart from the relatively objective descriptions giving earlier, and answering any questions you may have, I do not find it fitting. I am firmly against the factions cannibalising eachother by trying to convince a prospective player to join their faction over others. Also, join Corrington, we've got chocolate and coffee!

Challenge V - Princes of Garvey - RESULTS POSTED!
Bregir replied to Garmadon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I will take this up in leadership. My own position is that any one property should only be subject to one type of bonus. In this case, you should build something not cotton, and something not commerce. I think any acceptable entry, (i.e. "sufficient effort") will be better than no entry at all. No other construction will make sense. Scorched earth. The Mardierians burn their settlements, apart from what is represented by the prize of micro-licenses. The Brethren Courts is gamemastering this, and it will be a subjective evaluation. We will of course look at the scores, but it will be a gamemaster-decision what the outcome is, based on the builds and stories told. This is not something we can (or want to) put on a formula, no matter how much you German's like those! Most likely, you would give Mardier 1 point per entry, rather than zero. Initially, the factions, as it is faction prizes, but what the factions do with them, and how they reward the builders, is up to them. I will clarify this. I do not think we discussed it yet. Most likely, it will have upkeep as any other fort. Hopefully, people are motivated by participation, moc'ing, and story-telling. However, you will soon need xIBSfor discovery, quests and adventures, ship limits, etc. So no worries, there will plenty of uses for them! I should think so, but to me, you would have to explain how it came to be in your hands, if the property or ship is not initially yours, or even Eslandian. I think we may require a small vignette to explain this, but again, will bring this up in leadership. It's going to be Yuuuuuuuuge! Indeed. For challenges, the footprint is always a maximum. And that means that anything less than 48x48 = 2304 studs, like for instance 64x32 = 2048 studs, would be acceptable. (Someone correct me if I am wrong). And yes, it MUST include two vessels, which an entry with 53 vessels also does. I will clarify with the courts whether microships are acceptable. Also, let us know if any other questions arise! On top of this, we are already now starting to plan the next era, a new MRCA, skill-system, new ships, etc. so the next year will bring as much excitement to BoBS, if not even more, as the last year has!- 164 replies

The Empire of Eslandola: Sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to kabel's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@kurigan: Everyone, I would say. :) If you want to be part of a big faction, join ESL. If you want to help maintain balance against those profiteering mercantilists and their inane hunt for the next soulless endeavour, join COR or OL. If you want FREEEEEEEDOM, take the Sea Rats, who probably have the fewest active players. (although there are several infamous pirates by now.). BTW, you posted this in the ESL thread.... :P- 780 replies

I would be up for this. And I like your approach. What I was thinking was to tell it a bit like a story, or an example of a sig fig signing up and such, but that would of course require a few builds, so a group to do this would be great. Other volunteers for creating this guide?

@kurigan: First, don't join ESL, they have nothing but drama! Also, they are a profiteering set of merchants - and republicans to boot! Also, a proper "quick guide" walkthrough of John Doe joining BoBS is on our roadmap. In that regard, apart from Ayrlego's excellent quick-guide to the different factions, what sort of things would you like to know? I was thinking headlines like "Real-life parallel", "naming conventions", "Government form", "Special focuses" or something along those lines, but would like to hear your (and others' input).

Regarding troops, I can assure you all that Corrington has absolutely no overview over its forces. But that any agression will be met with fierce resistance, should your puny ships make it past our warfleets to land troops! In short, I believe we have a leadership task in regards to troops... ;)
