  1. Good story and nice build, Mesabi - glad to have you amongst our ranks! I think the exterior is a good interpretation of the London Escape. A bit more life on the street would liven up the scene a bit. Your interior has a lot of nice details and furniture, but still looks a little blank. Perhaps tiling the floor, or giving it some sort of texture (eg. different colours for carpets or floor tiles/boards) would help this. Some more tables and guests might also help giving it some life. And I would probably have given the upper floor some sort of railing! You don't want drunken redcoat sailors landing in your rum! Looking forward to seeing how your story develops!
  2. A peaceful merchantvessel from the notorious (Captain) Morgan! What madness is this? Will we be so lucky as to see her progress? As to periods represented here, I am happy to see anything from the early medieval period to the Napoleonic era really. And should anyone want to go even earlier, I would absolutely love to see that too. (Later would be more fishy, though, with steam ships etc.) I agree with you that one of the cool things about BoBS is that it accomodates all sailing ships, together braving the seas. @Kolonialbeamter: That is looking absolutely fabulous! And I see you on flickr say something in Tschörman about perhaps building her in bricks? In any case, you have now shared two almost finished builds without showing us the rest, and I am dying to see more of them! Pweeeeeeeeease?!? @_@ @Umbra-Manis: Interesting technique, UM! That could turn out very nice. A few pointers from me: I think she is looking pretty chubby, so making her longer would probably be a good idea. That may also allow you to smoothen out her curves a bit (three bricks from the front the curve is a bit abrupt), and I think she could turn out a really cool vessel, perhaps a broadbottomed tradeship?
  3. Great story - it seems like using convicts for labour is getting quite popular these days! I like the idea of floating the barrels down river, and having people ensure their passage, although they must be laden relatively lightly to swim in such shallow water. Your rockwork is lovely, although I have one gripe, being the 2x2 brick which open bottom we see very clearly. putting a corner plate on its bottom could fix this. I like the jungle too, and the technique for the tree-trunks is quite nice, especially the different slopes around the roots. I might well steal that! The studs give a nice texture to the bark, and I wonder if one could make thicker trees with a similar technique... Garmadon may be right about the crowns of the trees being a bit flat. Sad news for the Major, though, but I can't say I really liked him... Seems like the Order is tightening its grip on Lavalette! EXCITING!
  4. @Mesabi: The rules for trade companies are, as far as I remember, the same across the factions, and I see no issue for you in starting a trade company, as long as you meet the requirements. (As far as I remember, the three builds are all you need) I think those builds should probably be licensed in the name of the trade company in question, but I am not sure the rules are really so strict. IC, at least, they should belong to the company. In any case, I would license them over time, but I understand that you want to use your 3 build limit for this month cleverly. Remember, builds can be licensed at any time, not just when they are posted. (Also, the ship license does not count towards the monthly limit of 3) Should your trade company need a loan, I should happily be willing to oblige, as I am certain several of our countrymen will too.
  5. Might one ask why you are so certain they will not appear again? I don't know if Ska has a list of mutinies, but the ships should be expected to be sold or operated still, since they are not sunk.
  6. Very interesting, @Jacob Nion I do agree that there would not have been cannon in those towers, but they would probably serve well for muskets or small swivels or heavy musketoon/blunderbuss. Can we expect your next ship to be inspired by the Ark Royal? Personally, I feel more and more inclined to visit these earlier period vessels at some point.
  7. Dear sirs, Sir Aidan Coyle (@Mike S) is hereby required and directed to assume the position of Colonial Governor of the Northern Reaches. This includes the islands of Lacryma and Serentia, and he is required to coordinate his effort with the relevant local mayors and commanders, who in turn are required to submit to his command. He is to do any- and everything compatible with his duty to her Majesty to further the interest of Crown and people. Failure to do so will result in Court Martial with all the consequences such may entail. Further appointments will be made based on merit, interest, and necessity. Sincerely Rear Admiral Fletcher, Royal Navy OOC: And I have updated the relevant post in this thread with the recent appointments.
  8. Dear Sir, As a Corlander, friendly to Eslandola, I do not appreciate the discrimination in your practices. I had not noted the clause, and will accept the bid removed, but know that your practices has been noted, botg in terms of exclusivity and price manipulation. Regards Ibn al'Sayeed Manager of the Montoya Estate
  9. @Kwatchi: The Chumpy has been found in ill shape, with rotten plans and only brought in 30 dbs, while the Toby was almost unharmed and brought in 150 dbs. @Jacob Nion: The Applevilla was found to have sprung a leak during the fight and sold as scrap for 20 dbs. Funds will be transferred shortly.
  10. The Montoya Estate has placed several bids. Regards Ibn al'Sayeed
  11. Maxim speaks the gospel here. :) I will add that a galleon would typically fall in the larger classes. Probably a 4 or 5, as galleons are rarely small. For a smaller ship of similar period, we would probably be talking a caravel or carrack. But then again, if you can build a smaller galleon type vessel, no one will stop you! :)
  12. Nice facade, Brandon. Looks very imposing and makes me think of many a hotel de ville I have seen around France! I might suggest adding some sort of ornamentation around the door and windows, and probably something behind the windows too, as the white background shining through somewhat ruins the illusion of a house. Curtains, a bit of furniture and a backwall would do alot to help here. A flowerbed or something out front might add something too. Impressive administrative center for a small settlement! The Olean bureaucracy is moving to the new world!
  13. Reg. slavery, Silentwolf answered, and to the religion, I will add the some people have introduced alternative religions. There is Bishop Meloche ( @Kwatchi) and his dark arts, @gedren_y and his gaelic (?) inspired religion, and @Capt Wolf also made some alternative church of the sun and the moon, if I am not mistaken. But the dominant religion is certainly the "faith" as described in the lore.
  14. Nice actions shots, Mesabi! The use of red light sabers to show the splash of blood is a good idea, and I like the idea of a flashback in a dream! Very creative. For your first build, a few more smaller plates to make it look a bit more organic might help, and personally, I prefer not mixing fleshies and yellows, but I like the way you have shown the battle developing with the different scenes! Your interior is great - I love the different furniture and the brown pillars give a nice texture to the walls. Well done. I will be looking forward to following your adventures! As to the EGS, let me see: You get the first 25 db for signing up in our faction thread, which you have already done Then, if you register this introbuild as a freebuild in this form, you get another 10 db. You know have two options, which you can do in any order. Use your free small property license Build and license a small business of some sort for a small but steady income over the coming months. (Read more here) Use your free small ship license Build a class 1 or 2 vessel and join the next MRCA to trade or fight. (For a good beginning, a class 2F has proven a good start for most.) See example of ships here. After that, you should be well off to a good beginning. If you have any questions, you are always welcome to ask! :) I will get you invited to our faction PM too.
  15. Welcome, Captain Mesabi - Good to see another brave soul join our ranks!
  16. Noted. 24 hour bidding period is now open. Contact the pious Bishop Meloche for bidding.
  17. It was probably my mistake, when I went through my submissions on cruise control. Just make sure I don't get those moneys! (I have nowhere to store anymore! )
  18. Well, you can't sistership a vessel onto a captured license. (For obvious IC reasons)
  19. I am really hoping that the business will prove sustainable by itself, so I really don't need to dilute my investment. Sooo, get your filthy green hands out of my business venture! Also, I had hoped to get in a few deals for this MRCA, but events appear to have overtaken me! (Or perhaps there simply is no demand at my price)
  20. Optimally, she would now be sailing as an NPC, I would think. Whether we can realistically manage this, I am not yet sure.
  21. As per the rules, a 24 hour delay is now instituted. In this period, everyone may contact Captain Benjamin Morgan with bids for the vessel. After that, we will condemn the prize.
  22. I don't have them in my lists, so yes, I think so.
  23. "Sphinx - Sunk at Anchor..." NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! She has been with me from the start... what a tragedy! (Do I get the salvage value, btw?) Also, @Phred / @SkaForHire - The revenant is still stuck on a reef off Berreli, so I shouldn't be given the proceeds of her trade run. (And to everyone else, there is still a 100 db bounty for pulling her off and returning her to me!
  24. I see no problem in a little competition! ;) Perhaps someone else can do it cheaper? ;)
  25. Hah, Kai - you had me smiling for the duration of the read, a smile that lingered afterwards! Although a bit comical in concept, it is very nicely executed and one of my favourite builds of this category! The tree and landscaping both are well done, and I like details like the root protruding through the ground. The foilage and the use of a bucket upside down are great, and you have packed a lot of spies into that tree! Well done!
