”And then from the rampart came a guffaw, he he he… because one or another attacker got inpaled…” with these words the late professor Władysław Filipowiak of ancient Slavic history, took up the story of first settlers on Polish soil. The lecture was about one of the first settlement from the Iron Age – Biskupin. The Biskupin settlement has been discovered by accident while draining marches in mid. 1930s. The age of this particular settlement was estimated as old as VIII century b.c.. The settlement was established on a slightly wet island of over 2 hectares and consisted of ca. 106 oak and pine log-houses, of similar layout and measurement (appox. 8 x 10 m each), built in 13 straight rows. Each house accommodated one family of 10–12 persons (in total over 1000 people). An open hearth was located in the centre of the house. Because of the damp, boggy ground the streets were covered with wooden planks. The settlement was surrounded by a tall wooden palisade, set on a rampart made up of both wood boxes filled up with earth. The rampart surrounding this grid town was more than 450 m long. The settlement was most probably consumed by the lake when the climate change, and thanks to that fact was well preserved to our times. For that, it is called the "Polish Pompeii". Nowadays, a full-scale entrance gate, part of the rampart and two house rows were erected on the site. Such settlements were called "grody" ("gród" in singular). They were build (in this or similar forms) on Slavic areas of nowadays Poland till the early medieval times, when location of dwelling shifted in favour of towns around or close to castles (first wooden, later on stone / masonry). It took almost half a year for this Lego model to become reality. First works began in late December 2015 with initial drawings and virtual construction in LDD. As it was my first virtual project, it took some time to complete. Each hut is, despite same frame construction, slightly different (wall arrangement, thatched roof). Here and there some details like dried herbs, woven cloth or tools mark the hut’s wall. One of the huts is open, and with a bit of luck (the aisles are – as in original settlement – very narrow), one can see the interior and hearth. The MOC took over 36000 elements to complete. It measures 5x4 baseboards, divided into two modules (3x4 and 2x4) – otherwise due to size and weight it could not be moved out of my flat :). The not-planned in LDD technic boundary runs alongside one the aisles, so fortunately for whole process, I encountered no construction drawbacks. The settlement is accurate build from historic point of view. Of course there is a limitation towards the number of aisles (9 instead of 13) and houses (the longest rows had 10 huts, mine are 5-4 huts long). The one visible exception is the statue of Światowid (Svetovit, the pagan Slavic god of 4 faces), which stands on the main square of the village, while it would be better of in a chram (a temple) outside the settlement or amid a sacred grove. As our historic settlers took up hunting, fishing, root and berry gathering, perhaps some early farming on the mainland, and crafts such as weaving, pottery, fur tanning – we have all those on the Lego counterpart. The minifigs sport custom made decals. Many thanks for Jetboy for his extensive support with the photo shoot.

Calling all Eslandian citizens! The crown has decided to charter an inclusive settlement. > What does that mean? That means that YOU have a chance at part ownership! > How can I participate? Simply apply in this thread. Make up a résumé; if you own any ships, hold any special posts, etc; pull out all the stops! The Eslandian High Council will be evaluating applicants on a case-by-case basis. > What good does part ownership do me? Mayors and other civil servants will be elected out of the inclusive ownership group. These are all salaried positions. Plus, you’ll have the prestige of being part owner of a settlement. You’ll also have a say in the settlement naming process. > How big of a part of the ownership will I have? That depends on the number of successful applicants. If there are three, you’ll have one-third ownership, if there are five, you’ll have one-fifth, etc. Requirements: You must be an Eslandian citizen. Leadership may require you to have already built several quality builds demonstrating your commitment. To solidify your claim, you will be required to build and buy at least one license in this settlement this month (or whatever month you apply). If you are not able to do this, your claim will be lost. Settlement Name: Puerto Alijo Ownership: TBD Location: Torrach Bonn Mayor: None, yet. The inhabitants arrived in a small fleet to find clear beaches and dense jungle that provides plenty of material for building endeavors. Name: Mesabi Landing Ownership: Wayfarer Trading Company , via the Crown of Corrington Location: Argentia, East Prio Sea Map: Mayor: Count Mesabi . Trade Value: see accounts spreedsheet Town Bank: see accounts spreedsheet Who can own property in Mesabi Landing: Anyone Who can freebuild in Mesabi Landing: Anyone Description: Pax Corlandia was a dangerous incident for all sides involved. With the Corrish occupation of Nova Malto, battle lines were drawn, and names were made. One of these names was Captain Mesabi, who was annointed Count for his bravery (or lunacy?) during the incident. After the whole Nova Malto incident, the Corrington Colonial Council decided to do something to about the troublesome - now Count - Mesabi. The solution was simple: send him to a faraway island. Isle 14, AKA Keep-Yer-Boots-On, AKA Argentia, was decidedly the right place. Littered with waste from passing ships, cacti, crabs with hats, and mysterious plants, Argentia is perhaps the most depressing of the Islands of the Prio Sea - and a perfect place to keep Mesabi from causing more trouble. Undeterred, Count Mesabi established a settlement on the barren island, naming it after himself. Newly ennobled, he seeks to make the settlement the greatest in the Prio seas, at all costs. The settlement has grown quickly, becoming a haven for exiles, outlaws, and traders from all known (and sometimes unknown) nations. The WTC unofficially controls the town, despite the protests of the Crown. However, the settlement remains a rough place, and at the same time an eldorado for those looking for adventures, glory - and profits. He was Sailing under both the flag of the Empire of Corrington, as well as the MAESTRO trade company which still holds a slight presence in the settlement. Mayor Smaugton contributed to much of the town's progress, but sadly, the Pearl of Cocovia had not seen much development since the retirement and mysterious disappearance of it's beloved mayor. Fortunately, one Richard Brickford, volunteered to step in and nurse the abandoned settlement back to health. Now under his leadership Quinnsville has quickly risen to prominence on Cocovia and is a flourishing settlement on the verge of becoming one of the few Grand Cities of Corrington. Name: Camp Isaac Ownership: The Crown of Corrington Location: Cascadia, East Prio Sea Map: Mayor: None. The settlement is managed by the Royal Society of Natural Philosophy Trade Value: See account summary Town Bank: See account summary Who can own property at Camp Isaac: Any scientific endeavour will be welcomed in Camp Isaac, however non-scientific, foreign endeavours should obtain permission from the military governor first. (A mere formality, simply state your intentions in this thread) Who can freebuild in Camp Isaac: Anyone Description: Camp Isaac is the first Halosian settlement on Cascadia and is located in the only navigable deep water channel in the estuary of the largest river on Cascadia. This river connects a large inland lake with the ocean, and, as the estuary consists mainly of wet lands criss-crossed with small streams, river travel makes up the main mode of transport for the camp, both downstream to the ocean by the deep water channel, and upstream, inland towards the lake. To make navigation easier, a series of lighthouses are planned for the deep water channel, as is a bridge to ensure communication with the mainland. Build on wetlands and mainly serving as a base camp for expeditions into the interior of Cascadia, Camp Isaac consists mainly of tents, wooden huts, and other somewhat temporary constructions. It is renowned for being the starting point for the expedition which famously discovered the golden city of Myzectlan, and named after its founder and member of the expedition, Don Isaac Montoya. Managed by the Royal Society of Natural Philosophy, the camp welcomes all scientific expeditions and offers a perfect place to prepare for adventures! Home to the Myzec people, legend has it the city was cut off from it's parent civilisation hundreds of years ago. Over time, the Myzec have lost the advanced building techniques of their fore-bearers and the city is now an eclectic mixture of the older style stone buildings and newer repairs in wood or mud bricks. The Myzec primarily farm maize, sweet potato and beans in 'floating island' plots or chinampas on Lake Myzec. The meat in their diet includes fish and water fowl and dugout canoes are used to transverse the lake. Very few mammals are farmed in the Myzec valley although there are some pigs and goats. They weave cloth from goat wool and produce leather from animal hides hunted outside the valley. A basket ball type game is a very popular recreational activity. The Myzec are a matriarchal society where most positions of authority are held by women. They are a well developed and organised society and practice a dualistic region where they strive to balance the eagle, which symbolises peace, wisdom and order; and the jaguar, which symbolises ferocity, war and chaos. If you want to license a piece of property in Trador, you must be someone (in some faction)! Post in this thread and fill out the web form. Etymology: Trador comes from "Trade" and the Dutch word "Dorp" (village) - Island information Island #: 13 Claimed by EslandolaNickname: The ShadowGeographical Features: This Island has a natural bay ideal for a trading post. The island is well guarded by steep rocky coasts on most sides, and the water is deep.Rumors: More than one sailor has independently reported seeing a massive black shadow in the sea circling around the island. The more suspicious of sailors suspect this is a sea monster, or sea monsters, lurking beneath the foam to swallow their ships whole, while the more academic postulate this could be a school of fish, indicating good fishing waters, or even a pod of whales, drawn to this island for unknown reasons. Nevertheless, sailors, and the natives, have avoided this island. - Location of Trador: - Soldiers stationed in Trador MAESTRO Golden Stars - 1st Battalion | MAESTRO | General Samu the Dragon Trador Guards - 1st Battalion | Trador | Lieutenant Wilhelmus La Sombra Forts protecting Trador Fort Coconut | MAESTRO | small | 1 sp | 5 value Merchant Gate | MAESTRO | medium | 2 sp | 10 value External Forts protecting Trador Fort Brickwall | Eslandola | Royal Fortress of Puerto Desafio - List of licensed properties in Trador: Art & Culture (8/8) Wellness The fountain of youth Spa | MAESTRO | Medium | 2 sp Culture & Festivals Preparing for the Winter Solstice Festival | Gedren_y | Large | 3 sp Parks Poseidon's Park (Fun at the Park) | Blackdeathgr | small | 1 sp Training Day | Bodi | small | 1 sp Trador Park | Captain Braunsfeld | 1 sp Artisan (11/11) Pubs The Three Flower Inn | MAESTRO | Medium | 2 sp Trador Soccer Field | Maxim I | Medium | 2 sp Golden Fish Inn | Maxim I | Small | 1 sp Green Door Pub | Capt Wolf | Small | 1 sp Beer Garden | Ayrlego | small | 1 sp Trador Bar | Mesabi | smal | 1 sp Whitechapel District Brothel | Professor Thaum | small | 1 sp Shops Mme Bijoux Accessoires | Maxim I | Small | 1 sp Clothes Shop | MKJoshA | small | 1sp Commerce (18/18) Quays Merchant Quay | Maxim I | Royal | 5 sp Trador Beach Quay (Tenotclaxcan Training) | Faladrin & MAESTRO | Large | 3 sp Services Mme Camille Real Estate Agency | Maxim I | Small | 1 sp Warehouses Empty Warehouse (New Trador Soccer Competitors) | Dr_Spock | small | 1 sp Unclaimed Warehouse (Leaving Trador) | Mesabi | medium 2 sp The Apple Cider smugglers | Maxim I | Medium | 2 sp WayMart Trador | Mesabi | Medium | 2 sp Education (5) Trador Agency of Exploring & Culture | MAESTRO | Small | 1 sp Trador Libary | Maxim I | small | 1 sp Trador University - Department of Chemical Engineering | MAESTRO COR | Medium | 2 sp Trador School | Silentwolf | Small | 1 sp Factory (12) Textile Trador Textile Factory | Capt. Name: Port Woodhouse Ownership: The Crown of Corrington Location: Garma's Key, in the Garma Strait, East Prio Sea Map: Mayor: Trade Value: See account summary Town Bank: See account summary Town Income per turn/Town Expenses per turn: 146DB/100DB Who can own property in Port Woodhouse: Anyone Who can freebuild in Port Woodhouse: Anyone Description: Port Woodhouse is a settlement located on the small but strategically important island of Garma's Key. Garma's Key is a small low laying island located astride the Garma Strait that separates the Islands of Celestia and Cascadia. The sea directly around the key is shallow and hosts coral reefs, but the south eastern coast is deep enough to harbour larger ships. It is on the south western coast where the settlement has been established. This strategic position guards the entrance to Safety Bay, a large deep water bay in which an entire fleet could easily shelter. The settlement itself sits on the most southern point of Garma's Key and the adjacent small tear-dropped shaped island just to the south has been earmarked for the sight of giant fortifications to guard the entry to Safety Bay. A naval base is also being established to protect Corlander commerce in the region. The settlement's purpose as a naval and military outpost, together with its unsuitability for cash-crop agriculture, have resulted in it being dwarfed in size by neighbouring commercial settlements such as Jameston and Mesabi Landing. Despite this, Port Woodhouse looks to be growing into the administrative capital and the seat of Corlander Colonial government in the Paradise Islands. The crabs that are abundant on the island are prized for the taste of their meat, and the island has quickly become known for the quantity of it's seafood. Properties licensed to exploit this have been observed to make a slightly larger profit than other similar properties. Name: Jameston Ownership: The Crown of Corrington Location: Celestia, East Prio Sea Map: Mayor: Trade Value: see accounts spreedsheet Town Bank: see accounts spreedsheet Town Income per turn/Town Expenses per turn: 230DB/150DB Who can own property in Jameston: Anyone Who can freebuild in Jameston: Anyone Description: Corrington's jewel of the Prio Seas, Jameston is a melting pot of cultures and powerhouse of commerce. Established on the 15th January 617, the first Corlanders landed in a large sheltered bay located on the western shores of Celestia. Rich with natural resources, Jameston was the first Corlander settlement in the Prio Sea, named after Queen Annetta's Grandfather, King James IV of Corrington. Located on the southern shore of Vanilla Bay, Jameston swiftly became one of the quickest growing settlements in the Empire and developed it's own unique style. Early buildings tended to have sturdy lower floors built out of locally produced stone, while colourful timber framed upper stories add a rainbow of colours not normally associated with Corrish settlements. As the settlement developed, the trend has been for more brick buildings rendered in citrus colours of greens, yellows and oranges. The small Alfred River empties into Vanilla bay at the site of the settlement, and upstream large tracts of fertile land have been cleared for sugar cane plantations. Jameston is one of the leading producers of sugar in the new world, and is the site of a Royal Sugar plantation. To the east of the settlement, think verdant jungle covers the land and here vanilla plants can be found growing naturally throughout the jungles. Corrish settlers were quick to exploit this valuable spice, the second most expensive spice known to man second only to saffron. Businesses taking advantage of the islands abundant vanilla plants are known to give investors a bonus in profits. Celestia holds perhaps the largest diversity of orchids yet seen in the world and the jungles are splashed with their bright and vibrant colours. Towards the end of 617, a rush of settlers flocked to Jameston in search of the rumoured 'Superb Orchid'. Hundreds of new species of flora and fauna were discovered and several species in particular have been labelled as the 'Superb Orchid'. It was during these expeditions that several sites were found with ruins of a long forgotten civilisation, thought to be related to the Myzec on the neighbouring island of Cascadia. A hub for the East Terran Trading Company (ETTC), Jameston hosts the majority of company military forces. ETTC troops mainly consist of mercenaries hired from the southern Nizami satrapies of the Molokoi Empire. These men are mostly drawn from the Nizam ethnic group and sign into the ETTC military for 15 years with the promise of immediate Corlander citizenship and a parcel of land in the colonies on retirement. In addition they are allowed to bring up to 5 family members with them to the new world. As such, Jameston hosts a large ethnic Nizami group who tend to live together in the south eastern section of the settlement which has become known as the Nizami Quarter. ETTC forces are mainly comprised of infantry; known as sepoys, but a small unit of lancers also compliments the force. (Please stick with the style of the city) Fortifications: Within the protection radius of the Royal Fortress of Nova Terreli Description: Founded in 616 AE by Román Fontonajo as the seat of the government of Nellisa, an Eslandolan colony, Montario has always been a settlement dedicated to the wealthy and powerful people of colonial Eslandola. With Fontonajo's Governor's Palace at the edge of town, both wealthy merchants or businessmen and influential or aspiring politicians have come to the town. Many of them only own a secondary house in Montario, which they visit whenever it's neccessary. However many people have moved to the town permanently. Houses are generally high-class, as are all other establishments. There is little industry in the town, however there is an extraordinary focus on things like art, culture or education. Commerce takes place not only in warehouses but also in gardens, parks or on town squares. Montario is neither crowded nor hectic - it's a level-headed city of the successful people of Nellisa and colonial Eslandola in general. Current Properties: Total Freebuilds: 5 Residence: 3 pts. Settlement, Mooreton Bay, Alicentia, Corrington
Ayrlego posted a topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Name: Mooreton Bay Ownership: The Crown of Corrington Location: Alicentia Mayor: James Hume Trade Value: see account spreedsheet here Town bank: see account spreedsheet here Who can own property in Mooreton Bay: Anyone. Who can freebuild in Mooreton Bay: Anyone. Maps: Description: Corrington's first settlement on Alicentia, Mooreton Bay, is located inbetween two large freshwater lakes and a large natural bay. As with other Corrish settlements in the new world, Mooreton Bay is founded near a native settlement, and co-exists in close cooperation with the natives in accordance with a formal treaty between the two peoples. Founded by famed Corrish explorer Sir Dirk Allcock in February 616, it was one of the first Corlander settlements in the Terra Nova. The settlement is named after the famous Corlander General Sir Charles Moore. Moore was a hero of the Juniper War who was killed leading a valiant rearguard action that allowed the main Corlander Army to escape an overwhelming Oleon invasion force. Together with the free settlers, a small contingent of convicts were present at the establishment of the settlement; mostly minfigs convicted of piracy in the Sea of Thieves. These convicts are awarded plots of land in return for a set amount of labour determined by the severity of their crimes. The abundent local sandstone makes for a convenient building material for most of the settlements buildings, which have taken a very Mardierian style after the foundation of nearby New Haven and the influx of Mardierian refugees fleeing the Isle de Medio after the Eslandolan invasion. Tropical fruits grow well in the fertile soils of Alicentia and plantations taking advantage of this recieve bonus income. The settlement successfully repelled a raid by notorious Eslandolan pirate Captain Nordau in late 622, although not without serious damage to Fort Denison.
