More prospecting on Serentia near Stormhaven

Great little scene, Mike. It's main allure to me, though, is the thoughts it sparks in my mind for how the mine will eventually look! Great work! -

That man looks every bit as cross as mr. Coyle himself! Perhaps that is why they get along? I sure hope that shiny golden spot isn't just pyrite! -

Nice story and lovely moc, Brandon! I like the half-timbered style with the stone foundation. I think both upper and lower levels are a bit too tall, though, which makes the house look very imposing. Perhaps cutting out a few bricks height in each level would make it look more colonial? You could also try adding diagonal cross members to the half-timbered stock, to make it look a little more authentic. And perhaps it is time to try to put a little more environment around the house? Perhaps angling it a bit on its base? Just a thought - I like this style too. All in all, good work! -
She looks fantastic in rendered form, sir! I quite like the colourscheme, and you have done very well with the rigging, given the use of original lego sails. I would still think the bowsprit would have been better in 1x1 rounds, but it works out allright as is. The crew is, if somewhat sparse, very nicely posed, and I think the details on deck like the raised hatches and the ladders make her look well-finished. Great job! Argh, another one infested! I was very happy to see you in the shipwrights thread with this one, and hope to see the others too! Keep up the good work!

The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion

Corrington is always welcoming improved relations with any nation inclined to a mutually beneficial relation! And certainly, that is why Montoya is trying to defend the actions of Lord Damaximus! Au revoir! -

Kwatchi, certainly Lord Damaximus, member of the Eslandolan colonial council and thus representative of his state, must have more conclusive evidence than such mere conjecture to make such accusations! Otherwise, it would be absolutely scandalous! :O :P ;) Also, more secret payments, please! ;) -

Should you at any point in time require similar explanations from Corrington, I assure you we would not be inclined to disclose information regarding internal affairs to foreigners. Have you not heard of the prime directive? -

You sir, seem surprisingly certain in your accusation. Where I an Oleander gentleman I would require some form of satisfaction. (More duels!! ) -

Another great ship from your shipyards, CAPTAIN Benjamin Morgan. More like ADMIRAL by now, though! ;) I absolutely adore the hull. It has the boxy appearance quite typical for a (piece of... :P ) junk and is loaded with details of the same cultural heritage, which I think really adds character to the build. I like the smaller broadside guns paired with two heavy bow chasers. Suggests something about the purpose, prey, and tactics of this vessel! ;) I really like the way the stern chaser is hidden behind the shudders, and the bow is very elegant, in its own way, while still looking imposing. If you were to find new challenges, I would suggest trying out an entirely custom rig. And custom junk sails isn't really something we have seen much of here, although they are very distinctive. The only one I remember right now is my own "Dozy Dragon" and I would love to see others' take on it. In any case, great work!

She does slightly look like she has hit a brick wall at high speed! ;) However, apart from her somewhat warped proportions, she is looking pretty good. I like the cabin windows, and you've got all the right sails.(albeit a bit warped by her stubbyness too) The cabin seems nicely integrated into the hull. I would love to see a picture right from the side, showing her as I would see her standing on a dock as she passes by. I think that would show off her profile better. My favorite part of this build, though, is its back story. It simply makes perfect sense to have retired pirates take on such a job. And should she someday need access to a Corlander convoy, it is possible that an arrangement could be made. Keep up the good work and the great stories! -
I like it! It is a very nice mix of a classic Lego pirate ship and a more AFOL-ish attention to detail and realism. The short building time is impressive, and although it may shine through in some rough and unpolished spots, it actually doesn't suffer from it. I suppose that goes to show that sometimes, one just need to let go and let the building happen! :) (And personally, I find the predominant discourse that studs should be hidden away somewhat heretical. Real MOC's have studs! ;) ) I would love to see an overview shot from the side, as that is sorely missing. The cabin is nicely detailed, and old yellow never goes wrong here. I personally prefer a more integrated cabin, but the traditional "Lego way" can work well too. She seems very fitting for her class to me, and I hope she will bring great things to her captain! (As long as those "things" did not initially fly the colours of Corrington! ;) ) Well done!

Another lovely ship from the Kb shipyard, sir! I really like how you are trying out an entirely different approach here. Those 1x4 slopes are very effective for the purpose, and I wonder if inverted ones on top could serve as tumble home for a larger vessel. I like the overall shape of the hull, and the open hold is a great idea. The toplights over the crew quarters/cabin are inspired, and I like little details like the ladders to the hold, those sideboards (or whatever those outer, lowerable keels are called) and the winches up front. The rig strikes me as a little odd, though. It appears to be a variation of a lugger, but the sails on the mainmast (including the furled one) just doesn't make sense to me. Can you possibly show us what they are meant to represent? :) Anyways, lovely work.

Great looking star fort, KB. I am loving those snot walls - very inspiring - and you have managed the links and corners between wall sections beautifully. The semaphore is a great addition, although Corlander scientists are working double time to figure out a better, more efficient, and more scientific way to conduct medium and long distance communications!! So far, the best they have come up with is smoke signals, so naturally, the department has suffered some aggressive "reorganisation".... ;) Whenever the real guns are mounted, i would say it would make a fabulous large fortress! The landscaping all around is great too, as is what we can see of the central courtyard. Cooke, as military governor of King's Harbour, might be interested in talking to the architect of this wonder, when he starts developing the defenses of the city!

All ships can visit a minimum of two ports, and up to their speed stat, but some are limited by only being able to sail in one zone. -

The King's Harbour slipways have finished outfitting one of the captures of the Royal Navy, and a crew has been trained for the curious vessel, the galley Carnage.- 897 replies

Some time ago, Corlander escorts took prize a mid-sized war galley during a heated action with privateers. The galley was heavily damaged during the encounter, which, paired with its unconventional construction, meant considerable delay in outfitting and manning her for service with the Royal Navy. Armed with a single 32 pounder cannon mounted in the bow, she can pierce any warship of the Brick Seas. The nine oars per side ensures unequalled tactical mobility, especially when other ships are becalmed, and enables her to bring that single massive cannon to good use. The large crew at the oars doubles as marines in a boarding action, making her a very effective close-encounter machine-of-war. Her lateen rig ensures good performance under sail, allowing her to keep up with the slower convoys as escort. ________________________________________________________________________________________ Mainly an experiment with building a hull for a galley. A few hinge plates later, and I was pretty happy with the result. I am reasonably happy with the oars and upper hull too, but might one day give a larger galley a try, with a more elaborate superstructure and rig. It represents the 3A Carnage taken by Corlander escorts some time back. C&C is welcome.

Normally, we accept "reasonable overhang". So don't have beakhead and cabin overhang in each end. But a bowsprit or two is probably within reason.- 164 replies

Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nothing is "not good enough" for this thread - and if someone starts bashing anyone's attempts at shipbuilding with unconstructive comments or personal insults, I will take measures to meet this. They will feel the wrath of the Bregir! I hope everyone feels welcome in here, and that those commenting will try to comment constructively on all submissions. @Legostone: The new headrails are much improved, but I actually think I preferred the old "low" bow. Both looks nice, though. I like what you are doing with the masts too. As to whether this can be considered a new ship, my immediate response would be "no", as it is "just" a rework of an existing ship. The first version could be considered a WIP of the new version. For me, to be considered a new ship, it needs to be materially a different ship, basically with a new keel laid down from scratch. We are currently discussing this in leadership in a different connection, and I will let you know if that changes anything. On the other hand, I would like to find some way to encourage revisiting old ships, and we might have that in the works. Good ideas are still welcome, though. -

To supplement CG's comment. To be licensable, I would say that it has to be a property, so to speak. Meaning that a naturalist catching butterflies in the forest is not licensable, unless it is a veritable butterfly farm or voliere.
