It's good to see the small classes getting some love still, and this is a good example. I particularly like the efforts in the rigging. Those coloured sails work pretty well, and you've got most of the proper ropes in place, although your jib-boom looks like it could use an anchor point in the keel... ;) I would also like to see some functioning sheets - right now, the ends (/sheets) of the headsails are hanging lose, as is the mainsail. "Haul the mainsheets, men!" "Ehrm... Captain? I can't seem to find it!" :P As to the hull, I think it could use some more work. Of course, a lot of this is due to the small scale, but take it as a challenge! ;) The green lines along the hull are a bit blocky(perhaps decreasing the distance between the lines a bit going towards the stern would help?), and the curve around the bow leaves some noticeable gaps. All in all a pretty little sloop, though. Keep up the good work! (Also, Corrington would like to place an order for severs ships of any class! :P)

Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Depending on what lines your mock-up represents I might be right or wrong, but if it represents the level of the deck, I would still think your shape is too tear-drop shaped, and that she is too wide for her length. Perhaps you could try out the scaling tool Legostone linked earlier? :) Also, I said the exact same thing just a few months back, but it really isn't that bad! :P My 4th rate and the yacht linked above both use the bent sides method, and it allows me to work in both curve and tumblehome in the same construction. And you don't have to bend them so much that the bricks are damaged. Just make sure to lots of interconnecting short plates and bricks, rather than single longs ones, as each "link" (where the bricks meet) allows quite a bit of bending without actually affecting the bricks. I entirely expect the bricks I use to be in perfect shape once I pull them apart! :) (Otherwise, I will sue Legostone for damages... Oh wait, this isn't 'Murica... :P ) So... You should try it out at some point... :P At least, try a small mock-ip, just to test it! ;) -

Looks nice, @Captain Genaro. For a brig, though, she looks rather chubby to me - hadn't you said it was a brig, I would have assumed it a cutter judging by that hull outline. Are you building her after a specific set of plans? If not, then I would suggest either making her a cutter, or slimming her up somewhat. (2-4 studs, I would think, or increase her length.) At least, I don't recall seeing a brig with such a hull shape. Also, for the gentler curves, bending bricks (I know, it's sort of illegal, and I too was against it in the beginning, but Legostone got me convinced) makes for a smoother, nicer, and more realistic curve. I would suggest you try it out, possibly in this WIP. It should be able to contain most of the curve you have from the stern to 1/4 from the bow, especially if you slim her up a bit (or increase her length). Just a few thoughts - hope you will keep us updated with your progress! -

[OL FB2] Breshaun Wine Merchant
Bregir replied to Captain Genaro's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great looking wine merchant, CG. I like the use of dark red and the brick bricks to give the wall texture, and the snot'ed windows are a great detail. Your troops are nice too, although their officer seems a bit young for the commission. (Also, their arm work appears rather sloppy! Raise those arms briskly during march, lads! Wouldn't have been accepted in her Majesty's army.) The interior is great too - I like details such as the door to the cellar, the wine racks, and the different furniture. (And although it took Silentwolfs comment to figure it out, I too like the bell.) Story is nice too - It appears that Genaro is making a name for himself!- 10 replies

Another lovely build in this interesting series, Elos! I like the green accents in the building and the clutter outside, as well as the minifigs. What are those bricks around the door? Also, I wonder how Fontonajo will make good on his promises? While money is abundant, resources, ships and properties are sparse, and contractors even sparser... What does he have up his sleeve?
-
Great storyline you've got going here, Elos - I wish you all the best in your elections! The story is well-written and the vignettes are well-built, although this one seems a bit too crammed for me. A few more square studs would probably have helped.

The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to Sebeus I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
To the Kingdom for Oleon, Her Royal Majesty congratulates King Philip I with being the first to add such a colonial jewel to his crown and wishes that this will only be the first in a series of successful settlements in New Terra, be they independent, Olean, Eslandian, or Corlander. May the riches of the new world bring wealth, knowledge and prosperity to all. Sincerely Don Isaac Montoya -

[OL - FB] The Brazzi Brothers' Brickyard in Breshaun
Bregir replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Good looking brickyard, KB. I like the big vaulted oven and the factory building in bricks flanked by that Tudor section in safe distance from the hot fires. My favorite details are the stacked bricks out front and the look inside the oven, but things like the firewood outside and the weathervane also help tremendously in finishing off the build nicely. Also, I have been planning some sort of brickworks in King's Harbour for some time, but it will be somewhat different, I think, modelled after Danish brickworks with large drying warehouses. Anyway, great work! Breshaun is growing at an alarming rate! :P -
[SR-MRCA Dec] The Jade Piranha Strikes Again!
Bregir replied to MKJoshA's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
One of my favorite MRCA builds ever. Great use of microships to celebrate your victory, and I love the fallen masts. However, looking up the Tigerlily, I think this story might have been told one too many times over one too many drinks - seems like that tiny sloop has grown to a mighty brig! ;) -
Well, I certainly expected it to go this way! ;) Nice story and great little cut-out build. For some reason, the potted plant is what catches my attention. Also, good luck with your campaigning. However, with that slogan, as a representative of Corlander interests abroad, Montoya is already starting to worry what this will mean for the Corlanders working in Eslandian territory! And for the record, Corrington is not going to pay for any walls! ;)

Cooke being away in Quinnsville didn't stop developments in King's Harbour. Everything was progressing along with his, so far still secret, plan, and new settlers arrived regularly. While not growing as fast as Cooke had hoped, the arrival of organisations like the ETTC and the Royal Society spurred growth and attracted both investments and people. One of the most recent additions to the settlement was a physician, and it was with the growth of services like this that Cooke hoped the naval base would pick up growth. And so it was! Cooke's latest order as Governor had been to start building up a network of stone docks and canals, and already days after finishing these, the first plots had been sold. In the first stretch of stone docks erected, warehouses and residences had already been constructed for some of the most entrepreneurial residents and businesses, and the docks were coming alive. The first buildings were a warehouse of the Montoya Estate and residences for two wealthy merchants. Loading and unloading the vessels and barges calling in the port required the proper tools, and several cranes and lifts had already been constructed, both for the dockside and as integral to the warehouses. To ensure traffic running smoothly in and across the canals, several drawbridges were being constructed all around the new port. The canals were already coming alive with several barges and small-craft like this ox-driven vessel currently unloading barrelled cocoa beans from the Allcock cocoa plantation inland. These were being stored in the cellar under the merchant's residence. Nearby, a captain is negotiating with a merchant for a new suit of sails for his lugger, which is currently without any cloth on its masts, due to it being improperly stored while in port and thus ruined by a storm. In the meantime, one of the new residents has purchased a piano from the Montoya Warehouse, surprising his wife with such a, for the colonies, rare implement. Cooke's city plan allows ample space for traffic and trade, with roads all around most buildings. This has the added benefit of limiting the squalor of closely populated areas, something that had been a cornerstone in Cooke's plan, having himself far too often struggled his way through dirt and despair in the cities of the old world. It will be interesting to see how King's Harbour develops from here, but if Cooke's plans are followed closely, this section will be a good representation of its future. _______________________________________________- Thanks for looking, all. I have wanted to do something like this for a long time, as I have a plan for King's Harbour, which I will hopefully find an occasion to show off in the near(ish) future. I am taking most of my inspiration from northern european cities such as copenhagen and amsterdam, especially Nyhavn in CPH. As always, C&C is welcome. A few more pictures can be found in my flickr. It will be licensed as a large commerce.

So, does this count as one or three MRCA result builds? :P Great way to... Reflect on the MRCA results! Good luck getting back on the horse. ;) And you know, if you got a knife, erhm, rowboat, you can get a gun, erhm, sloop... And if you have a sloop, you can get a brig, etc! ;)

Great looking fort, Mike - it entirely lived up to the hype! Ï love how massive it looks and the sloped sides are perfectly executed. Your crenelations are very innovative too, and I like the two tiers of guns. Both the "keep" and the gate house are great additions to making it more than "just" a fort. Great work!

[Fontonajo-1] The Highest Position
Bregir replied to Elostirion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Great looking fortress and lovely story. I have been waiting for quite some time to see the Fontonajo response to the constitution! As to the OOC thing (ever wondered why we call you Eslandrama? :P ) I would 1) suggest that it is something better handled in private, and 2) say that IC, Elos's story makes perfect sense and seems perfectly reasonable. While OOC agreements could possibly have been made in advance, I fail to see how this should lead to any conflict. It has been very interesting to follow, and an IC reaction from the viceroy would just make it even better! ;)- 19 replies

Lovely young plantation, although with such a pretty landscape, probably a beach resort would be a better business! Well done! And if uncle needs it, I shall happily suggest a few candidates for hanging... :P

Noted. I am currently unable to do the roll, but perhaps one of my colleagues can effectuate it? Otherwise, I will do so later today.
