A very nice brickbuilt longboat, sir - Of viking descendance myself, it is very pleasing to see! The sail appears a little small, and just two oars is probably too few, but using those shrouds worked out great for the hull. The other little boat is good too. The facade is very nice too, and could definitely be licensed too. I like the amount of depth you have given it, as well as the different details. Could suggest a few more details on the grass, but other than that, good work.

[OL - FB] The 'États de Boussac'
Bregir replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well, I am not going to repeat how absolutely amazing this looks, but only say that this is a great representation of a shps of this period. I would add that those three golden minifigs carrying the stern gallery is an amazing touch, but without going into unnecessary nitpicking (and without spending hours and hours) I can't really offer any constructive advice. STOP MAKING THEM SO PERFECT! -
Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Latest WIP. Well, basicly done, I guess. Ships of that age didn't really have all those fancy things on deck, nor in the rig. Inspired mainly by these pictures: Also, its hard to keep up with the blue and green shipyards these days! -
Another beauty in your by now so famous style, Capt Wolf. I will not comment much on the hull, but it is very well-built. The galleries are elegant and I like how the headrails merge into the figurehead in one smooth curve. A few comments on the rigging. The courses (lower sails) would not have a yardarm below them, but have their sheets led directly to the deck. The courses should also be brought down so that their lower edges are closer to the deck. You could then add another set of sail above (royals). I would also increase the size of the lateen on the mizzen considerably. (In fact, I think most of the sails are a bit too small, so perhaps trying out custom sails for your next ship could be a new challenge? ) However, as I have said before, I really like your take on this period of the age of sail, as demonstrated by several of your ships. Keep up the good work!

[ESL - FB - Class 5LA] The Purple Reign - A fast answer
Bregir replied to Maxim I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
As Bodi said, the balance between slender, elegant lines, and a powerful, menacing look is very well struck. I like the long, overhanging stern, and those round 1x1 makes for a great texture, although untraditional. The only thing I would change about her hull would be to give her a long beakhead, as that was very typical of xebeks. I also think she would benefit from some more work on the rigging. With such a well-done hull, I think she deserves a more elaborate rigging. Nonetheless, a very well built warship, Maxim. Good work.- 9 replies

Thank you all. Have you never heard of the horned rooster god of the Prio Seas? Sacrifice your most precious belongings to it, or be prepared to face its wrath! Happy to have inspired you. I have just dismantled her, and started something like a mid-1300 warship on the same hull pieces (although shortened by two hull sections). Well, I needed to try something different from Napoleonic era vessels. Happy you like it. The crossbow is actually a reuse from long since. And yes, those slanting doors lead to the cabin. It's not quite up to par with Phred's amazing native vessel, but it is a genre quite underrepresented in BoBS. It really isn't that small, though! But thank you for the nice words. I never really warmed to the vessel myself, but as it was finished, I thought I might as well share it. I will see if I can remember to get some pictures of the ballista. And those holes are probably related to their pumping technology, most likely some sort of valves only letting water out. Perhaps we will never know? Thank you - glad the presentation form worked. And while those parts may be too fancy for savages, they are certainly not too fancy for this people! Bloody xenophobe! Thank you, Bodi. And come to think of it, you are right - it does very much have the same profile as the ironclad, although I doubt she would last long against the Virginia.

I really like the curve of your gundecks (especially where the coloured part narrows at the bow), and details such as the nets (hammock netting?) and the little doors under the quarterdeck really makes her pop. She does suffer a bit from the bare rigging, and I will be looking very much forward to seeing her finished. This though, makes me a bit concerned!

Starting one's carreer in BoBS with a 40 gun frigate has never been seen before, I believe. Very impressive. I will not repeat all the praising of the hull, only say that it is very well done, and with great many details. A few suggestions for rigging instead. (What you have is pretty good, but in principle, I always try to give some constructive feedback on ships) It seems your rigging is altogether a bit too small in scale, as if lifted from a smaller ship. Your mainmast should probably be taller. Currently, it is about 3/4 of the length of the hull, while in most configurations, especially for frigates, it is slightly taller than the length of the hull. Raising the other masts similarly to keep it in balance. Your yardarms might need similar enlargement, but bracing them round a bit might be enough, though, to let the space between the masts seem less empty. :) I would also suggest, for your next ship, to use less technic parts and more string to suspend the yards, making them fall more naturally. Also, did I ever say... AMAZING BUILD!

The Empire of Corrington: Sign-up and Discussion
Bregir replied to SkaForHire's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
*cue dramatic music* A long time ago, in an ocean far far away, peace had long reigned supreme. (BoBS: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/forum/177-brethren-of-the-brick-seas/) It was not a perfect peace, and privateering was on the rise, rumours spreading of rich treasure fleets bringing home colonial riches. Many were taken, and many others beat off their attackers in bloody fights, as tension was rising throughout the lands. (Challenge IV) However, the Empire (Mardier) was marred by civil war, and in these conflicts, against the rebels, or freedom fighters, innocents fell victim. Some of these innocents were Eslandian sailors, which led to a declaration of war and retribution from Eslandola, a nation itself undergoing significant change, the trade companies overthrowing the King, relegating him to a merely symbolic role. In the course of this war, Eslandola invaded Isla de Medio and settled on the south. This operation further revealed a massive, previously unknown, colonial Mardierien presence, escalating the conflict further. To counter these developments, Eslandola brought in a new ally, the small but warlike nation of Garvey, and together, they are now conducting offensive operations against Mardier. (Challenge V) Amidst this chaos, the nation of Corrington stands concerned. The actions of it's historic friend and ally Eslandola has not gone unnoticed, although Corrington has managed to maintain neutrality. At the same time, relations with a historic enemy, Oleon, have warmed somewhat, but has yet to materialise in any concrete form. The Royal Navy is still a powerful force, but Corlander shipyards have not been able to keep up with the great ressources available to their competitors in Oleon and Eslandola, and some admirals are concerned. The merchant fleet suffers a similar fate. Likewise, the colonies of Corrington are not developing as fast as their counterparts, and in the great race for riches, Corrington is falling behind... However, the ETTC has not suffered, and is as rich as it ever was, bringing great wealth to its shareholders. Construction of a royal cocoa factory is progressing, albeit slowly, but the company is still in need of a proper headquarter from which to lead its efforts. How will the return of mr. Hawksbrugh impact the future of the nation?..- 897 replies

To Captain Jonathan Cooke, Colonial Governor, Cocovia Dear friend, We have arrived safely on the island of Cascadia, and have rendezvous'ed with the forerunners of the Royal Pioneers. Hopefully, we will soon start to set up a more permanent camp. The commander of the Pioneers assures me that as soon as the rest of his unit arrives they will start setting up fortified positions. And I must say, I the wealth of nature here is astonishing. We have stumbled upon masses of nondescriept plants, beetles and felines, and I cannot wait to dive upon the reefs, or explore the inlands. However, I write to you to draw your attention to something I am sure you will find interesting, you being the very image of the nautical being. We were surveying a bay for its usefulness as a harbour for our camp, when this oddly shaped vessel stood in, its crew offering us pelts and fruits. I have forwarded a serious of drawings young mr. Baker have made. He is proving to be a most valuable companion in documenting what we find, and I trust you will find his illustrations fascinating. Your humble servant Montoya Note: I have never seen anything like these sails, and I am certain you are able to conclude much more from these drawings than myself. Note: Notice the armament, a sort of ballistae. They seem unaware of gunpowder, but showed how their steel spears thrown by this contraption would pierce a heavy plank at a hundred yards! Note: The strange pulley up front appears able to change the rake of masts. To what extent that influences its sailing properties, I have no idea. _______________________________________ Thanks for looking, guys. C&C welcome. This is not as advanced as my other (ongoing) ship mocs, but I bought those longboat hulls and wanted to try them out. And this is where it ended. She will be licensed as a 5T.

Dear sir, I have spoken to your newly assigned personal advisor, and he assures me that should your brains be of cheese, it must most certainly be the finest made, and most carefully aged, ever to reach New Terra. You may conduct your transfer at any time fitting your convenience, and I will see to it that things are brought in order. Best regards Sir Edward Summerridge Executive Director, BoC

Of course he can! Just make sure noone knows! It's transblue indeed, and I agree - it works quite well. I might well use it more going forward. As to colours, well, incidentally I only have those domes in dark green... Will take it up in court at some point. Have some other ideas about microbuilds too to discuss anyways. I hope some people will decide to use it - otherwise the idea may be brilliant and all, but still quite pointless! I did go for monumental, so happy to hear I succeeded to some extent, at least! The colours might be a subliminal marketing trick... Thanks, Kai. Glad to hear you like the idea - I should be happy to cater for your business anytime! I assure you, my riches are earned by effort and skill alone! And should yourself be in need of liquidity, perhaps the bank can aid you? Well, basicly, just transfer some funds to the "BoC" and put the transaction below. Then you open the account sheet and enter your name and the amount you are transferring. Then I just hope someone will be interested in taking out a loan so that we can start earning some interest!

Facing the main square of Arlinsport, the new headquarter of the Bank of Corrington has now been finished, and the bank is opening for business. The building itself is almost monumental in style, symbolising the stability and security it stands for (and offering some of the safest vaults of New Terra). I have to agree with Maxim here. If the ships are close enough for an effective blockade, those on shore will have a pretty good idea of the strength of the blockading fleet. And gamewise, I wouldn't much like to send out a fleet without some idea about the enemy. People have no way of knowing what sort of fleets Mardier have at their disposal, and even less so how big the blockades are. -
@Phred and @Captain Genaro: I find your lack of... confirmation... disturbing...

It seems Capt Wolf takes the cake, although considering the nature and morality of banks, KB is on spot too. Capt Wolf - I will give the particulars when it is all launched, but it will work within the existing rules and mechanics. Should you have any specific questions, feel free to ask in a PM or when I post it.

For an upcoming project, I would like to have an account opened for the "BoC" at your convenience. Thank you.

Nice pavement, and great looking balcony. The victim does look suspiciously like Lord Damaximus, does it not?

That wall-technique works very well, as does Alois bounding about. Those butresses (?) add some nice structure to the tower. Your pictures seem to be taken with too little light, making them abit grainy, but anyways, nice build!
