I will echo the welcome of the others and add that I too like the whole story, depicted so very well. I like the building of the raft, and the use of his clothes. All in all good details!

[SR - FB 2] Doctor's practice (artisan built 16 x 16)
Bregir replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Patching up pirates, ruffians, and their victims alike should give the doctor plenty of work - and perhaps some specimens for dissection? I like the different details all around, with tools, bottles, etc. Makes the office come to life. Now it all remains to be seen whether he is a quack, or a real scientific doctor fit for the Royal Society! -
[SR - FB1] The Dusk (Gargoyle sistershiped)

As I said elsewhere, this is an amazing start to your shipowning career in BoBS. I am quite impressed with what appears to be a brickbuilt hull, and the rigging is looking pretty nice too, although I think your mast should be taller. Your railings are nice, and details such as the ladder, the capstan, the armament and hatches really add to her. Well done - will be looking forward to seeing her in the brick. :) -

The Bank of Corrington would be happy to help finance the vessel at a reasonable interest. @Bodi Also, nice looking vessel. Will be looking forward to seeing more! -
Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Bregir replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Ah, the wonderful confusing use of terms. You are indeed right about what a sloop rig is. But very few sloops (-of-war), if any, were sloop rigged. Typically, they would be ship- (like this one, hence a "ship-sloop") or brig-rigged. Some might be xebec or schooner rigged too. So, at least in the Royal Navy, a sloop (-of-war) is the designation for a un-rated warship (less than 20 guns) commanded by a commander. A vessel between 20 and 28 were 6th rates (although only those with 28 guns would be considered a frigate) and would be commanded by a post captain. (In the napoleonic period) Vessels commanded by a mere lieutenant would not be considered a sloop but a gun-brig or similar. I may or may not ramp her up to 20+ guns (adding guns in the cabin or as chasers), but so far, she only has 18, making her a sloop. Glad you like it - rigging with string can be quite rewarding (and challenging) getting all the lines taut just so. But on the upside, you get a very sturdy ship. (If your hull has the structural strength needed and the proper anchor points, that is ) I am not quite sure we (IC) should be looking forward for this... You're welcome. And just for the record, there is nothing wrong with prefab hulls. One just need to consider how to give them the details they lack. I still enjoy using the traditional prefabs, but mine are currently bound in existing Moc's that I have spent far too much time rigging to take down anytime soon... -

Both you and the greenies have little other concerns than profiteering - although you go about it in quite different ways... Why do I feel a sudden urge to moc a run down, battered old skiff? -

The Royal Fortune sounds a bit too mercantile for me, and we don't have too many cities to name her after - I was thinking about something along the lines of indefatigable, retribution, or something similar, only something fitting for a small, swift-sailing ship-sloop rather than a heavy frigate! Perhaps simply the HMS Valiant? I will consider this. @Brandon Stark Good to see another shipwright to be! My first suggestion would be to move the mast 4 studs or so forward (For a cutter rig, or even more so (x2) for a sloop rig). Second would be to work in some details on the sides. Perhaps they need a latter leading down the side, or so? I would also suggest you add a bit of a curve to your deck, lowering it in the middle by a brick or so, gradually rising to meet stern and bow. Good luck, and don't hesitate to ask questions, pose more WIP as you progress, or disregard my advice partly or altogether! -
Neat little hose and well-written story. Welcome to bobs! I like the massive fireplace and the smoke rising from the chimney!

That much only about a trade? How profoundly Eslandian! ;) Nice water, pretty little pier, and good work on the green stuff too. The palmtops do appear a bit too much like a flat disc, but I do not presume to have a better solution myself. :P Always nice with a story build. Keep it up!

A very enjoyable story to follow, Faladrin, and a very lively market scene. I particularly like the different market stalls, and the action you have shown is wonderful. I rarely get around to anything but a fixed scene. As I find the photography troublesome, I never get to fiddle around with different poses and action shots, but you have inspired me to look into this in the future. Good job!

[COR-FB1-Mar17] Conspirative meeting
Bregir replied to Brickwolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I knew the assassination of one or your family would not go unpunished - now I only wonder what sort of schemes this will lead to! Lovely little house. The greenery and the little quay are great additions, and the captain hook hat is not as useless as I thought! :D -

A swing at period tactics, I believe. But unsurprisingly, Eslandians prove to be mere merchants, with little military acumen! ;) Nice moc. :) Also, my random side generator always seem to say "Mardier" ;)

Uhh! Interesting developments! Well, unless you are an Eslandian, I suppose. Changing sides in the nick of time. Well, rather changing back. :P Great work tying in Mrca results to your story! And the admiral doesn't only sound like a sontaran in your head. :D Lovely interior - and I really want to see the Gorgon! :P And wouldn't want to be that poor captain handed over to the bishop. Considering his hair is turning grey again, I fear for his safety... :O

Apart from the blatant liberties taken in redacting history and the unpleasant romanticising of Olean war criminals, I really like this! ;) Simple but effective landscaping, and nice fig posing. Interesting read too. Well done.

Also, a slight update on my ship sloop: And yes, she is held only by her main crosstrees. A quite solid rigging, I would claim! I really need to figure out a name - suggestions? EDIT: Just noticed how the shadow makes her look almost full-hulled! -

I would never have expected you to do so! Merely stating that we must treat everyone equal, and therefore must consider what behaviour our practices could concievably encourage.
-
Just one answer. I would say no. First, we wouldn't be able to ensure proper treatment of your request, and second, we do not want to encourage rushed builds.
-
These colours, the additional guns, and the adjustments you have made make her look very menacing, UM! Dark green and black go really well together and she has nice smooth sides. I would probably have brought her quarterdeck down another brick, and if you feel like challenging yourself, I would suggest you try out some of KB's techniques for rigging. Will give you a lot more flexibility in terms of rigging.

Puck’s Jest (Epilogue) - SR 5A ship
Bregir replied to Gulagurag's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice looking brig, Gulagurag! She will certainly strike fear into the hearts of her enemies. I quite like the inverted tumblehome in the lower part of the hull, changing to a "true" tumblehome over the gun ports. Also, the windows in the stern gun ports of the prefab hull is a nice detail, and the overhanging cabin makes her very distinctive. The golden details all around looks nice. My suggestion would be working more on the rigging. The way the yard arms are connected to the masts make them hang pretty far from the mast. Perhaps letting the angled thingy on the yard fit directly on the mast (no clue how to explain this...) could work. Optimally, she would also have at least one more set of sails on top (topgallants). And of course, I am always a proponent of string rigging, and would obviously suggest trying it out. I use some form of twine myself, and I think it is pretty effective. (And despite what you might think, stringing it up can actually be pretty fun/interesting/educational/tedious! ) Nice brig - keep up the good work! -
Dear Sirs, The following prizes has been condemned: The Traders Doom, 3A. Rot found in her keel and planking, making her unfit for further duty. Therefore sold for firewood for 75 db. (@Elostirion) Gulag's Mess, formerly Puck's Jest (1.0), was found to be in excellent condition and sold to a Mokolei... gentleman for 225 db. The Victims of Benjamin Morgan Fund has spent the one db on drinks, being utterly unable to cover even a fraction of the damages afflicted by the infamous Sea Rat. ( @Kwatchi) Transfers will be conducted shortly. The Prize Courts.
