  1. My category C entry, divided into two parts: Snow in Kaliphlin Burning the Tar Pits
  2. I'd like to claim a UoP credits for the following builds. Snow in Kaliphlin Brick-built animal #2 [Agriculture and Zoology] Brick-built animal #3 [Agriculture and Zoology] Burning the Tar Pits Forced perspective [General Building (Other Techniques)]
  3. Since oil has proven to be an effective weapon against the Algus, the Council of Barqa has decided to set fire to a number of tar pits despite the economic implications. The black oily smoke has proven to be effective in deterring the Algus and reverse the effects of their weather manipulation, of which one effects are that it has been snowing in Kaliphlin. Together with the other measures used throughout Historica to fight the Algus, the hopes and prayers of the people of Kaliphlin is that these frosty invaders will retreat to their frozen hell in the north once again. I would like to claim the following UoP credit for this build: Forced perspective [General Building (Other Techniques)] Photo spoilers: The lighting of the fires was accomplished by using a blacklight and a long exposure time, as you can see in the photo below. Since using only the blacklight makes all the other colors strange, I also mixed it with a bit of flash illuminating the other parts. The hard part was to find a suitable mix between enough blacklight to light the fires and enough flash to not make all the other bricks too purple or blue.
  4. Thanks! The vultures are not originally my design, they are inspired by designs from Robban in Swebrick for our post-apocalyptic collab there.
  5. Very nice landscaping, the light yellow base works surprisingly well together with the tan! UoP +1
  6. Very nice landscaping and building! UoP +1 for those walls (although I like the highly detailed non-round plate parts much better )
  7. Thanks! UoP is the University of Petraea: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=88352
  8. With bands of Algus roaming Kaliphlin, there have been an increasing number of reports of strange weather. From some of the caravan routes, reports have even spoken of fairly deep snow! Many animals are perishing due to the hard conditions, so the Kaliphlin vultures are thriving. I would like to claim the following UoP credits for this build: Brickbuilt animal #2 [Agriculture and Zoology] Brickbuilt animal #3 [Agriculture and Zoology] To be continued... ...with the burning of the tar pits to repel the Algus. Unedited image, if needed for the judging:
  9. I like the brickbuilt hull a lot, inspiring!
  10. Nice roof, street and staircase!
  11. Great idea and nice illustration with that bush
  12. Thanks! No rush finishing my second freebuild (third in total) then as I can post it as the first one in February instead
  13. So a build introducing the sigfig and presented in its own thread is separately counted and worth 10 additional db even if that build also was posted in the faction main thread? (sorry if this was already answered somewhere else)
  14. Excellent scene! I like how there are so many things happening at once I had to go to flickr to see everything close-up, I think you might have included a few more pics here as many (including myself) are usually only reading the posts here A suggestion for improvement would be to cover up the back side of the facades since the light in the cracks and windows (the darker ones work better in this sense) are hurting the illusion of it being complete buildings.
  15. Nice ship! I think you've already gotten the maritime feedback but a tip from me would be to increase the distance between the vertical part of the backdrop and the model (and maybe a smoother curving of it) when taking your pictures. Ironing it wouldn't hurt either
  16. Excellent beach-scaping This shows very well how good it can look when enough small plates are used instead of larger bare plate surfaces we often see. The grass is well placed too.
  17. Excellent scene overall and great attention to the details You are definitely a master of the "MMV scale" architecture! I especially like the house which protrude over the quay. I agree with Kabel however that those ships (however nice, I also had two of them in my childhood and have fond memories of them) are a bit out of place. A tad more detailing on the ground maybe wouldn't have hurt either?
  18. Great job making both the outside and the inside look good despite the round shape!
  19. Excellent shaping of the building and of course the landscape as usual
  20. Nice ship, I like the decoration with the rifles! Good idea to use both blue and white cloth as the background, it would help you a lot to get good edges if you want to cut away the background in Photoshop/GIMP/etc if the surrounding is similar to what you are going to replace it with
  21. Nice vegetation and fig posing! For the glory of Oleon!
  22. Good use of the prefab plate, I like how you've covered all the exposed studs with vegetation Seems like everyone is expecting me to write a lot of advice in each thread nowadays but since I'm back with my bricks now (less time to waste on reading and writing) I'm struggling to keep up even reading or commenting at all on all threads here so I'd prefer that you read the advice I've already written in other threads I can however say as much as that I recommend you to turn off the flash and get some other source of light Given good lighting even a phone can take quite decent pictures.
  23. Excellent machine, and great details such as the liquid pouring between the bottle and the glass!
  24. I've built an entry to Challenge 1A and a small Oleander free-build which are waiting to be photographed (will do it together with a GoH build which needs to be posted in January), but then I got entangled with an unsuccessful experiment for Challenge 2A (trying some crazy angles to make a portion of a star fort) and real life in general so my forum time has been approaching zero...
