  1. I am fairly sure that the problem with the Kaliphlin Civil War was that it was really three different things happening at the same time: An ordinary challenge (cat A, B & D) and a wargame which in turn was split into two different mechanics. I think one of these three things at one time would have been fine, but especially the Warzone AND Guerrilla mechanics combined made it worthwile to produce quantity over quality and hard for builders to keep up. The fact that some guerrilla builds didn't even face counter attempts definitely shows that it was too much happening in a too short time frame. But I'm not going to deny that we saw some world-class builds (especially from one side, not mine ) in that challenge despite the guerrilla mechanics pushing for quantity. Anyway, I agree that the first few builds here should have a low minimum requirement on quality to not scare builders off and I really like that you are saying that the judging will be more demanding for the more valuable licenses
  2. Nice little house, and I like that the street borders the quay in such a good way A piece of photography advice is that you would get less perspective distortion if you were to move the camera further away from the build and zoom or crop instead.
  3. Nice windows! Can't really see how they are built...? I also think that the stone parts of the wall look great I think the colors are a bit off and that the golden look is due to the white balance of the build being significantly different from the perfect white of the edited background. If the background is edited in such a way it is best that the white balance of the build is first adjusted to match the background.
  4. Very nice build overall, and I like many of the details a lot! For example the round window and the pillars look great Is there a bit more of lore regarding this build in Historica since you are posting it here...? Looks Mitgardian on a first glance, but considering the Algus influence on the weather one really can't tell these days...
  5. Very nice build, especially the water and the vegetation In spirit of always providing constructive feedback I can point out that the edge of the water probably would have looked better if the SNOTed water covered the plates underneath also at the edge.
  6. The pace of GoH has decreased a lot since then, I'm afraid that you are not the only one who lost track and that we might have lost a few members for good because of it...or that some people are still working on catching up, for me it took several months to catch up The question I raised in this thread was not primarily regarding the game mechanics but that is also a concern of mine that builders will spam the forum with the bare necessities to complete each task in the EGS instead of focusing on fewer builds of higher quality and that the forum will be too busy to keep up with. I'm not sure what those of you who are playing AG think of how AG turned out, but I at least gave up trying to follow it when everytime I went in there I had 2-3 pages of unread threads and therefore never joined that. But I've seen some builds coming out of there which have been top notch so at least the top quality is very high there
  7. I agree that it is the challenges which I have the highest hope to see high-quality builds from, since then it will be a value for the builder to work on the quality also. The Kaliphlin civil war was a bit mixed in my opinion, the wargaming category was a bit too much quantity over quality which made the forum too chatty to follow. On the other hand, some builders produced a number of stellar builds regardless Looking back at the initial sigfigs and builds of GoH it's a lot similar to what we see here now, so I have a lot of hope that when the initial enthusiasm has faded some builders who posted sigfigs initially will probably never post something again and some builders will be new stars of the Pirate scene!
  8. Nice with tiled walls for something which is depicting a new structure! I think however that the best part of the build is the landscaping, great with both new and disturbed snow A suggestion for improvement of the presentation is to include a picture which shows the whole build and is sharp throughout the build.
  9. Just ordered some native figs from BL and a couple of Jungle Boy CMFs as well
  10. I don't know if people are starting to see me as picky in my comments? But I've tried so far in the spirit of GoH to include constructive criticism when commenting the builds. Since most comments otherwise so far only have been praise, I'm starting to wonder if constructive criticism is not wanted here? The game mechanics seems to value quantity and size over quality, so I think it's up to the participants of BoBS to help ensuring the quality of the builds as well. I also think it's up to the participants to help ALL fellow builders, both new and seasoned, to improve their building and presentation skills I'm at least going to expect you to give me ruthless feedback to help me improve since this is completely new terrain for me Looking back at what GoH has done for some of its longtime participants, who have gone from average TFOLS to regulars at TBB etc, I'm looking forward to the builds we will see coming out of BoBS in the coming years! And I hope the community here wants to make that happen
  11. Inspiring build! The white and red/dark red color scheme works very well. Can't wait to see more of your town
  12. Of course! NPU?
  13. Innovative approach to the category! I like how the medium dark flesh ruin leads the story, and especially that first oasis picture is lovely Regarding the photography, I think working a bit with your lighting conditions and covering the table would improve the overall impression.
  14. Nice gatehouse! It's all too rare with gatehouses which have realistically small gates, my opinion is that most often builders put in a too large gate compared to the fortifications. Interesting minifigs as well, it's not very common to see those torsos used?
  15. Good idea for a very believable setting Nice description slso. A suggestion for another time might be to use tiles on the floor or SNOTed bricks to get an even surface.
  16. Nice entrance and street! I've used a very similar design for the stepping stones in Barqa in Historica, glad to see more builders doing a similar design
  17. Nice dramatic intro which makes me curious about what was behind this event? Great sigfig as well!
  18. Wow! Your storyline really took off fast Looking forward to the wedding build(s)!!
  19. Nice shrine, very suitable for the Oleon countryside! Regarding the color temperature of the light it doesnt really matter as long as all light has the same color (don't mix fluorescent and incandescent bulbs!). You should easily be able to adjust the white balance in the computer afterwards (especially if you shoot in RAW where you preserve all information) in Lightroom or Picasa or similar with some white reference in one of the photos. I used to use a folded white paper but now I've bought a proper 18% gray card, it was only a handful of euros. It might also help to set the camera's white balance setting manually to the type of light you are using if the auto setting fails you, which is extra good if you are only shooting in jpeg and therefore "settle on a white balance" already when the file is saved in the camera.
  20. Nice creature, suitable scary! What are those plates on the head....?
  21. Great portrayal of a Barqan administrative building! I like the floor design a lot (although it may look a tad too litte worn in an ancient Barqan building ) and the walls have a suitable amount of texture. Nice story and excellent dialogue also, the only error I could spot is that Gideon is actually a half-elf (unexpected to see him as a fleshie btw!). Good luck in your new guild, but sad to see you leave Kaliphlin! However I'm not sure if guild switching is allowed at this point? Maybe you should continue the story and wait with the formal switch until book II is concluded? Last time switching was explicitly allowed was between book I and II.
  22. Great idea and illustration! The trail looks so alive
  23. Great summary of the lore regarding magic in GoH! I like that you are including descriptions of the limitations of magic use in Historica, which is important to keep magic use rare. I will keep this terminology in mind in future builds. Maybe this thread should be linked to from the new members guide?
  24. Nice intro build, I especially love that plant! Need to borrow that design some day
  25. Great fortification and nice landscaping! I'm also surprised by how well a simple baseplate worked in such a highly detailed build
