  1. How are all you Mitgardians doing? Excited for Challenge II? I'll have plenty of free builds to post in the new year myself
  2. I won't be tired of seeing you build houses in this style anytime soon. Very good layout once again, and your railing technique is lovely Good to see some snow finally arrive Brilliant nesting boxes for the chickens too
  3. Great to see you complete this scene the way you originally intended. The updated overview picture shows the build off much better, and highlights the nice color combinations you have in the landscape All the sea gulls fit the scene nicely, and the fishing details are top-notch
  4. A group of various Mitgardian lords and leaders meets in Daydelon after hearing reports of Queen Ylspeth's new edict. Glorfindel quickly got down to business: "All of you represent different groups of Mitgardians. How do they all feel about these new regulations on taxes, public entertainment to be funded by the nobles, and grain from Avalonia?" There was a moment of silence as the council members considered their replies. Karsten and Glorfindel had already discussed the issue with each other before the council. And in the end it was Vagn, a wealthy merchant, who spoke up first. "Meddling with Mitgardian business, that's what this is! Never trust governments to get involved with trade, it always ends up costing you more than it gives. And ultimately this 'free grain' is just being paid with by our own taxes! Not to mention these taxes aren't just going to the crown, but into the pockets of those tree loving Avalonians!" Lady Alsnotr of the Strong Shield clan quickly responded: "Even if the grain is being paid for by our tax money, surely it's advantageous to receive grain before our tax payments are submitted? Many of our smaller clans and villages are struggling to maintain their food supplies, and we'll need good stocks prepared to make it through another tough winter." "You all act as if this sort of thing hasn't been done before," put in Brigor, an aged dwarf of Hradcanny. "Edicts on food, trade, and taxes were common place enough when we had a King in Cedrica; why should our Queen be any different? No, it's the inclusion of these public spectacles that makes me wary. What is Ylspeth trying to distract our people from? She's practically forcing nobles to put on these events with her tax requirements." "Surely she could just be looking to brighten the common folks lives?" Ovarr asked. As a well-known hunter and trapper, the young man was far from wealthy and passed through many small villages and towns during his expeditions. "Whatever our suspicions of her motives, we have no choice in the matter currently," stated Drottin Manaor, Mitgardia's Prime Minister and representative of parliament. "Though it may not be in our best interests, we are in no position to defy the Throne of Cedrica. Mitgardia badly needs some years of peace to regain strength." "I'm afraid Drottin is right, for now we will have to watch and wait to see how our new Queen handles Historica. Those of you with concerns are welcome to summarize your thoughts in letters which I can include in our next official correspondence with our representatives in Cedrica." Glorfindel sighed as he sat back in his chair. When Ylspeth had been inaugurated the country rejoiced, for it brought some much sought stability to the lands. And while many of the common people were excited by the promise of entertainment, the current sense of discontentment and suspicion among the nobles and wealthy was hardly encouraging.
  5. Thanks! Thank you, it was fun working with these classic colors Thanks Kai! I was a little unsure about those tower foundations at first, but am glad I left them in. You may be right about the trees, guess I just figured the cones were little pine trees next to some much larger deciduous trees Thanks Basiliscus, headlight bricks are so useful! Thank you, I'm glad you liked that portion as I spent a good amount of time on that area. Thanks en_zoo! I'm a bit shocked to hear you don't like microscale builds Surely there's something to appreciate about quality LEGO creations regardless of scale? While I haven't worked with larger than fig scale models myself, I love seeing others handle them well. Thanks HQ! Thank you Grover, my idea for the narrow headlight brick windows was to be arrow slits rather than full windows.
  6. Thanks! I enjoy including full chimney setups Thanks Ayrlego! And yeah, I actually have more time this year than last, so I figured I'd make a proper run at Master Builder. Thanks Kai! Thank you, I enjoyed seeing how much I could fit into the limited interior space Thanks! I did have the stream at least one plate lower in most places, but where the irregular edge is the banks drop. That plus a lot of 'bubbles' on top of the main water level made things look a bit more flush. Thank you! I tried my hand at something along those lines years ago, with my own twist of course: Here a few others more along that style too: Thanks Basilicus. I was trying to fit the model on a 32x32 area, which made things tricky when it came to incorporating a stream. Probably should have just made the scene bigger. Thank you! Thanks HQ! With more of the new 1 wide 5 plate high brick with 2 studs on side, I could probably get rid of headlights, just didn't have enough at this point. And I would love to be a LEGO set designer someday, I've been putting together a portfolio recently Thanks! Those are antler thingies - I believe they first came in Ninjago sets first as a headgear accessory for helmets. Thanks Grover!
  7. Interesting choice to show only a portion of a large tree, but I think it works really well Great snow on the branches, and the little shelter is also very nice. It's good to see another build from you again
  8. Superb storytelling! The unique dialect of the blewe elfs is very fun to read Great use of orange in the seabed, and the various animals fit the scene well.
  9. Stunning building. The half timber style is accomplished beautifully, and the small dormer addition is tremendous Very nice balance of texture for the streets with mainly dark tan tiles, mixed in with regular plates and bley 1x1 round tiles. And the wainwright details included, of which the crane is my favorite, finish off the build well
  10. I was just looking at that head the other day, thinking it would be a great expression for the right scene, and this is a perfect example Excellent wall technique, and the not fully attached tiles for the street also fit well here. Just wait until he spots the giant spider behind his cart!
  11. Wow guys, quite an impressive group of AoM builds there Index updated again, and here are the titles you earned: @Gunman Watchman @Ayrlego Gentleman @Bracari Farmer
  12. You managed to work the round roof very smoothly! The stone hut against the autumn trees is lovely, as is your mix of colors for the landscape Your characters' stories just keep getting more interesting as well. Will be interesting to see what comes next
  13. I never tire of seeing good Kaliphlin market place builds. I like how much height you gave the buildings here, it helps strengthen the impression of a rather large town or city Plenty of bustle going on in the streets! What elements did you use for the little wooden roof over the ostrich? The dark tan element wrapped over the reddish brown bars I mean. Using curved slope elements to frame the gate fits nicely with the Middle Eastern style
  14. Incredible brick built figure Great color choices, and the fabric element use is perfect The horse sculpture is stunning too! Clever way of angling the stool legs
  15. Tremendous collaborative effort Made for a great couple weeks in the guilds, anticipating a new scene each day
  16. Glad to have given you some inspiration for how to finish the scene! The rover itself is top-notch, and your asteroid looking base turned out beautifully
  17. Lovely golden dome And even better is the floor mosaic inside! Plenty of interesting decorations and areas inside, and I think your removable sections for interior photography access worked out well
  18. @Viceroy Thanks for checking in! Of course I remember Mitgardia's master cartographer Great to hear you still keep tabs on what's going on here
  19. Fantastic building composition with the various additions, roof-lines, timber sections, and doorways The blue accents look great with bley walls, as do your layered tile roofs. One small detail that I'm not sure I've seen others include before, is the scorch marks on the wall behind torch sconces. Very nice touch.
  20. @Blaze Looking very nice! I understand your issues with poor weather for lighting Though I have found using a tripod and slowing the shutter speed down significantly allows me to take pictures even on gloomy winter days. And while I'm posting here, new freebuild! @MKJoshA Excellent work! The Great Hall is particularly cool
  21. This is my fifth entry for the Colossal Castle Contest XVI. I always enjoy building microscale castle scenes, so I certainly wasn’t going to pass up the Micro Medieval Mountain category, even if the prize wasn’t very desirable for me… The micro ship design was inspired by @Henjin_Quilones, though I did modify it slightly for us here. The fortress of Calbridge is built right into the Fjall mountains and its mighty walls protect the harbor and village along the coast. Looking for a better pictures of a specific detail? More images available on Brickbuilt. I had a lot of fun with this build, hope you all enjoy
  22. Impressive work angling the car hoods so smoothly Lovely battlements and arrow slits too. I like how you included dirt and stone layering in the base
  23. Thanks Adde! For city scenes like this, I've found elevation change to make the build a lot more dynamic. Thank you, I'm glad you picked up on the different window designs and styles for each house Thanks! You may be right about the cart, I hoped placing it front and center would help draw attention to it. But then I got a bit carried away with the houses Thank you Kai Thanks Grover, my models tend to be a bit smaller and denser than most real life settings. Though I do think medieval cities were often pretty cramped. Thanks Gabe! Thank you en_zoo Thanks! Thank you HQ! I debated on whether or not to include the owl, and ended up leaving him on.
  24. Wow Incredible lighting that gives a wonderful impression of the furnace's heat The 1x2 tile floor is a great choice for the scene, and that's a nice collection of bottles
  25. Winter Tower Roof Design
