  1. It probably comes down to licensing issues. The owners of the property ultimately dictate what's made into a set. Also they dictate how many sets are made. So ultimately they choose to put the focus only on certain characters and vehicles, what's most popular and most likely to sell. And realistically there's no way for Lego to put out all those characters and vehicles, it would take years to produce the hundreds of characters that get featured in those games. Plus the content in those games isn't actually done by Lego, except for existing character and vehicles that Lego has already designed. So the minifigures and vehicles designed by the video game company might not reflect what the copyright holder of the characters wants, so that's an issue as well. Plus those game only characters are usually designed in a way that Lego wouldn't want to spend money reproducing (Excessive leg printing, arm printing and new molds would prove costly for Lego to do which is why the minifigures we do get are simplified) Now genuinely Lego could do more, and it looks as if next year will attempt to incorporate game stuff into the sets more than they have previously.
  2. As much as I think cloth dresses would look good I don't know if they'd be practical. I'm mean trying to make them at that scale would be difficult, and even more I'm not sure you could easily recreate the style and detail of those dresses. I mean you're dealing with printing fabric and making it the correct shape at a rather small scale. I can imagine quality control issues with that. Granted I won't say it's impossible either. Lego has surprised me before and they're developing new techniques all the time, they might manage to do that. But the pessimist in me says if they wouldn't develop legs that move separately or hands that swivel will they really take the time to develop cloth dresses. I'm definitely interested in seeing where this theme goes.
  3. I'm assuming that Lego will sculpt new dress pieces. Granted that method would mean their legs wouldn't likely bend, but the minidolls aren't known for articulation anyway.
  4. I suppose the tentacles wouldn't be a problem if the set had a lot of places for him to grab onto. When the tentacles are hooked to something they should stay in place. Or I suppose Lego could redesign the tube with some sort of wiring inside to allow it to be posed.
  5. As I pointed out earlier both Carnage and Black Cat are in that same ASM2 toy line and they are not in the movie. As far as I can remember most of the movie tie-in lines for Spiderman over the years have featured villains that are not in the movie. My point is that the toy line proves little and also goes against the information we do have on the movie. Again I'm not saying it's impossible, just unlikely based on the information we do have. Also with the lengths the studio has gone to keep GG appearance a secret I highly doubt their big reveal would come in the form of a Hasbro press release. Also you'll notice Rhino wasn't revealed. Why would they reveal the movie version of Goblin but not Rhino? To me this points to it just being an ultimate variation rather than the real thing.
  6. I get the impression that the Doc Ock we see next year might match the video game's appearance. Usually when these games are made if a minifigure already exists then that design is used. The other USM characters appear the same as their real minifigure counterparts, but Doc Ock does not. I find it odd that they would change one of the USM minifigures but none of the others. Also looking through the set descriptions it makes me wonder if some of these sets are somewhat tied to the video game, maybe in the same way the Riddler chase is loosely tied into BTB. Not directly based on it or anything, but a few elements from it put in. In general I wish when they did these games they'd have tie-in sets. I am excited for next years Marvel line, this year was pretty disappointing, and next year is looking pretty interesting.
  7. Actually we really don't know how much of a role Norman Osborne will play in the movie, in fact it seems their saving most of his role for the third movie. And Chris Cooper being cast doesn't really prove which route Marc Webb is taking for Goblin. Various sources are pointing toward it being an armored version in the vein of the original Spider-man trilogy. And we've seen one picture of a cardboard stand-in for the glider and it looked a bit too small for ultimate Goblin. At this point it's looking less likely that we'll get see ultimate Goblin. Again that doesn't make it impossible, just unlikely for now. I'm really hoping to get sets on ASM2. I don't particularly care for the style of most of the USM sets, usually the sets themselves are underwhelming to me. The Daily Bugle was a good idea but awfully sparse. And some of the minifigures have been kind of sloppy. I have high hopes for next year though, especially if the ultimate Goblin matches the one in the Marvel game. And so long as they give us a better variation of Spiderman I'll probably be compelled to buy.
  8. I'm hoping against that. The toy line for ASM2 also features Black cat and Carnage who are not in the movie. So like the other movie lines in past years it's likely that some of these action figures don't actually represent characters in the movie. I will also point out that not even Rhino's movie look has been revealed yet, so it's unlikely that they would reveal Goblin's appearance yet as they've kept everything about him under wraps. Also his action figure appearance is completely contrary to what we do know about his appearance in the film. I'm actually glad the Ultimate Goblin we're getting is based on USM, that action figure one doesn't impress me. I am hoping if we get sets based on ASM2 (Which sadly seems less likely unless we get one exclusive set) that we get a Green Goblin closer to his original comic book appearance. I've never been a fan of this Goblin/Hulk mash-up that's been popular in recent years.
  9. That is a lot. The real problem for me is that most of those variations aren't very good (I don't care for any of the figures based on the movies or TV shows for design reasons and there's several variations that I just have no practical use for even if I like the way they look). All I want is a new 52 Batman to fit in with the rest of the new 52 minifigures we're getting, otherwise though I don't really need any more variations.
  10. I'm hoping they'll give us at least one new variation of Spiderman because I really dislike the USM one. But I get the bad feeling it will be the same one as usual. If they gave us an ASM variation I would probably jump up and down.
  11. Yeah it seems to be mostly based on Batman 89. The curious thing is that it doesn't quite match. While the colors are spot on the vest style and bow-tie style do not really match. Nor do the pants match (I doubt Lego would've printed a pattern like that, but I would think they would have chosen a different color at least). Because of this I almost think it may be slightly based on something else as well. But I haven't found anything yet that's similar. Although I suppose it's equally as possible that Lego just used some creative license. I was actually hoping for a 60's TV Joker. I like the coloring better in that appearance. It's a bit disappointing that Lego won't use any other shades of purple for Joker's suit.
  12. It would be interesting if Lego used characters like Catwoman, Harley Quinn and Talia as heroes in their own sets. After all there are a number of villains who actually do heroic things despite their often villainous actions (Catwoman saves animals, Harley Quinn once stopped a bomb in Gotham and Talia has helped Batman on countless occasions). It would just be interesting to see some less than black and white portrayals of these characters. Unfortunately I don't think Lego would ever do this, being a theme called "Superheroes" they probably will always be compelled to include a token do gooder. I can't blame them though, it is hard to bring up issues of moral ambiguity in a toy. I hope they branch out to other heroes. I understand why Batman is shoehorned in as often as he is, but there are plenty of heroes in and around Gotham if they really feel compelled to stay related to Batman. I think we should see Creeper in a set at some point, he is after all associated with Gotham. I always liked his story in BTAS, and a set would be interesting. Hopefully the second half of next year gives us a few surprises in the theme.
  13. Well Lego really hasn't used much from the comics. For instance they could do a set with Red Hood at Ace chemicals. Who wouldn't want a set on the Jokers origin after all. That would at least be a variation of Joker that's worthwhile. And when it comes to inspiration you really don't have to look far. Instead of doing vehicle based sets they could easily create small scale villain hideouts. Killer Croc lives in a sewer, Poison Ivy was based in Gotham park for a while, realistically you could do $20 sets based on smaller locations like that. Batman and Joker fighting in an amusement park is pretty iconic (Especially in the 90's). And they could always do extensions for Arkham like they did for Hogwarts (After all the construction of the set is done in a way where adding rooms would be a breeze). Really there's a lot of things Lego hasn't done. And if they intend to keep the focus on Gotham then they need to start giving us more than vehicles.
  14. Yeah, I don't mind still getting Gotham based sets and baddies, but I definitely don't need Batman as the main attraction. Having Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Robin and other bat family members at the forefront is definitely preferable over endless variations of Batman (I say endless but really I have a pile of the blue ones and the black ones, so obviously they aren't as varied as I said). This year when it comes to Batman himself all I really want is a new 52 variation and that's it. And instead we're getting a BTB variation, too bad I hate that show... And if they're going to keep the focus on Gotham based stuff they really need to do us a favor and flesh out the supporting cast. Lacking characters like Vicki Vale, Renee Montoya and others just disappoints me. Even if in recent years they've become less popular they're still an important part of the Batman mythos. Oddly enough Aunt Harriet might have been a humorous character to include at some point (It really wouldn't hurt to get a few more Adam West Batman sets). That's actually closer to what I meant. The subject material is often uninspiring. Zod's dropship was boring (As if we haven't seen enough ships in dark colors in this theme), the icemobile was a bit misguided and kind of a weird place to put Mr. Freeze (I somehow would have preferred him in an ice cream factory or something, only because I think that's sort of a classic hideout for him and I don't recall many plans where he froze Aquaman). Overall most of the sets just lacked any real flare, they're all just a bit boring to me. Even the Tumbler set was a disappointment as they chose a scale and variation of it not many people wanted. Lego really just needs to kick up the creativity for these sets. I'm tired of generic cars and gray ships and more variations of the bat vehicles. I would definitely prefer some Gotham landmarks over another Batmobile and Batwing (The new Batmobile doesn't impress me in the slightest. I thought it was ugly on BTB and I think it's ugly as a Lego set).
  15. I have to say I'm glad Lego has finally decided to print more details on the minifigures. Honestly the first years minifigures were rather plain to me, but this years and next is really looking good. Initially I was worried about them being too over detailed but after looking at the close ups of the figures it actually looks just right to me. Even Riddlers odd looking coat has grown on me despite it's out of place nature. And Batgirl actually has a perfect amount of detailing, in fact boots may have been a bit too much had they been included (I sort of shudder saying that as I had hoped for them, but now I don't really think they're that vital). Hopefully the set designs themselves follow the same course and become more detailed. I feel like this years sets were rather basic especially in comparison to other more detail oriented themes like LOTR and Hobbit. But based on the descriptions we've gotten so far I feel pretty confident we'll get some highly detailed sets, or at the least much more creative sets (2013's sets sort of had a been there done that feel to them, while 2014 actually has some interesting and relatively fresh ideas).
  16. I don't mind the orange and purple really, it's not my first choice, but it is a bit more interesting to look at. My problem is that his hair doesn't really fit in with the color scheme. Black and white hair fits with the black and white suit, but it doesn't fit the orange and purple suit at all. Honestly they might have been better off changing the white side of his hair to another color (Maybe something in the vein of how the Tommy Lee Jones version of the character appeared, with some bright colored hair). Also I think his left hand should have matched the color of the left side of his face, but I suppose that's up for debate depending on the version they're basing him on. As I said it's the hair that looks out of place for me, otherwise I like it.
  17. I have to agree with the moderator, it's a waste of space to make comments like that. Now there's nothing wrong about asking for an opinion on when we'll get pictures, the real problem is that we get comments like this: Which really isn't a question, and it doesn't add anything to the conversation, and despite the user trying to defend himself by saying it was a question it really wasn't phrased like one, thus making it more of a remark of frustration rather than anything constructive. The second problem is that even if stated in the form of a question it's still a question that's been asked and answered several times, often multiple times on one page. At this point repeatedly asking the same question and getting the same answer is spam more than anything else. And if this user had looked at any of the last few pages he would have had his question answered.
  18. I agree that they are B-listers, but I sort of feel that's the appeal. I mean they are odd and different from the villains we usually get. It would be nice to get some of the weirder villains from time to time. Plus characters like Mad Hatter, Clayface and Killer Moth just look interesting as minifigures, so there's a certain novelty because of their odd appearance. I will agree that it is disappointing that we're getting Man-Bat, I find his story kind of generic and don't feel like there's much of note about him. Clayface and Mad Hatter at least have unusual gimmicks tied to them to make them interesting.
  19. I wouldn't mind a few henchman. Honestly though I'd prefer some supporting characters over henchman any day. It would be nice to get a new Alfred, Lucius Fox, Vicki Vale and a comic version of Lois Lane (I just am not impressed with the Amy Adams one). I would like to flesh out the DC world a little bit more and I feel like some good supporting characters are needed at this point. My Gotham city looks so bare with only heroes and villains running around.
  20. Well If Elrond got a double sided cape then I would think Batgirl would get one too. I'd assume it would be black with a purple underside to match her new 52 appearance. And yes her hair is bright red, it matches Poison Ivy's.
  21. Well the LOTR sets feature characters with long hair who wear traditional capes, so I doubt it will be a problem for Batgirl to wear one. There will be some obvious limitations as to how it moves (With the hair on it will probably be stuck in one position), but she can wear it nonetheless.
  22. I feel like if the Flash, Superman, Batman and others didn't get boots I'm doubting Batgirl will get them. I will say it is possible, but not likely. Wonder Woman was a special situation as well, she wore shorts, so printing the shorts without the boots would have made her look barefoot. Batgirl missing boots wouldn't be that jarring, and it would match the rest of the bat family that all lack boots. I would assume her lack of boots will match Batman and Robin's lack of boots. I am hoping that at some point they start to include boot printing, but for now we'll see it rarely.
  23. Agreed, she needs boots, but I never really expected Lego to do that. While there are a handful of DC figures that include leg printing I've only seen two (Green Arrow, Wonder Woman) that include leg printing to represent boots. The Marvel side seems to have more leg printing, but like DC it has only a few that have printed boots. So it seems for now we're going to continue to see a lack of footwear for superheroes.
  24. I think we will get a couple new one's. Man-bat is a guarantee at this point. And rumor has it we'll see another in the steamroller set. My top choice is the Mad Hatter as I think he would be fitting. If next years line is anything like this years line then we will mostly see new variations of existing villains, but at least two or three completely new ones for the DC side of the line. As for the Marvel side I sort of view that as a wild card, as we have little information at this point.
  25. Having seen the bigger Batgirl picture over in the 2014 Star Wars topic I no longer think the printing is over detailed. I actually think it looks just right. However the BTB Batman looks worse to me. I'm hoping we get a new 52 Batman next year.
