  1. That's true, I will concede that as Lego has portrayed her she is definitely in her civilian form, but the character herself is one in the comics (Though in the set Lego did portray her as saving Tony). I suppose she's in that weird limbo of being an official hero in the comics and settling for doing a few heroic acts in the movie. But I suppose whether she's a hero or not isn't the problem. Whatever she is Marvel doesn't include women enough in the sets. We lack women in the superhero, villain and civilian department.
  2. Pepper is Rescue (Which you can play as in the game) in the comics and did put on the suit in IM3 (Which she is featured wearing the suit in the set she appears in). So I think she counts (Just barely though).
  3. Well since we're supposedly getting a summer wave I'd assume that we'll see at least 1 female superhero. I get the impression we'll see Storm at least (She was a big part of the game and appeared on a lot of the advertising). We've had no female villains to date either, that's pretty disappointing. In general Marvel seems to be behind on this. Overall, not including the SDCC figures, we have 3 women for Marvel and 8 for DC. Marvel really needs to do some catching up.
  4. It's just the classic reaction of hating what you got because it wasn't what you wanted. Getting USM sets when you wanted classic SM sets is a disappointment for sure. The same goes for the set design, when you expect it to look one way and it looks another it's going to seem pretty disappointing. Almost every year it seems like there's a cavalcade of people declaring next years wave terrible, then time passes and it doesn't seem like that big of a deal. Per standard everyone will complain for a while and then once they're done focusing on the bad they'll see some good. And my hate for the show itself stems from Spectacular Spider-man being cancelled so it could be replaced with that.
  5. Well we'll get more when Avengers 2 comes out, so we really don't need anymore next year. It would be nice to get Rescue. How she looked in the game was pretty interesting. I'm interested to see how the summer wave plays out, since we really have no idea how many sets there are supposed to be. I sort of doubt we'll see 3 sets for just X-men though. I sort of expect 1-2 for X-men, 2-3 for GOTG and I'm still holding out hope for 1 ASM2 set (Or if not movie based at least a set featuring comic Rhino, Gwen Stacy and Spider-man). And I expect 1 will be a playset while the others will be vehicles. I hope we get some news on the summer wave soon. I like what we're getting in the spring, so even an O.K. summer line-up would probably make this the best Marvel year to date (I like Marvel more but I end up buying more DC sets just because they often turn out a bit better).
  6. I grew up with both versions of both characters, so I'm not particularly bothered by them. At the end of the day I would have preferred classic Goblin, but I can live with this version for a while. Truthfully I'm just glad they didn't use the version from the Ultimate comics which was far too Hulk like for my tastes. This version at least looks a bit more original (Ditching the horns and torn clothing and giving him a glider was for the better). With Electro I do prefer the blue version. My favorite SM TV series was the MTV one, and Electro was the blue version in that. Other than I wish they had given him a suit for the torso and legs (Similar to the ASM2 design I suppose) and I would have preferred solid, rather than trans, pieces. Really this the first USM wave that I'm actually excited for. While they may not exactly be the versions I wanted it's still a great character line-up and will expand the Marvel side pretty well. And the fact that they gave us a classic looking Ock makes up for the last few crummy waves.
  7. I don't think it's been confirmed that they're returning. And even if they are their roles couldn't be that big. My reason for not including them relates to their role in the movie. Whether or not the sets are movie related Lego will undoubtedly choose characters that appear in the movie prominently (Just like how Lego is releasing USM sets featuring the villains from ASM2 a month before it comes out). And their role in Lego Marvel wasn't exactly that significant. Storm seemed to be the one they were pushing a lot of (Plus her minifigure actually features practical printing). I won't say its impossible they'll show up. But it's unlikely we'll get the complete main group of X-men. Based on how Lego has done it in the past we're only looking at a few completely new minifigures and then a few variations on existing. They like to make us wait. I'm glad they're featuring women more often, but so many red-heads... They need to branch out for sure. I'm really quite disappointed that we haven't gotten Gwen Stacy yet. I feel like there's only so many chances for her to be made as MJ has been more consistently popular over the decades. It's only been in recent years that Gwen Stacy has managed to regain a good bit of popularity, and with her future hanging in the balance on future films there may not be a better time to release her. Also I just like her character better, and ASM #121 is perhaps my favorite issue, so I'm dying to get all the right pieces to moc that.
  8. Personally I think that the cube itself is clear, but emits a blue light, so that could be what Lego is trying to represent. I think we'll see a very basic line-up. Probably something like Storm, Wolverine and Xavier for the good guys and Mystique and Magneto for villains. If I had to guess I'd say the line-up is going to be heavily influenced by who the bigger characters in the next X-men movie is (Even if the sets aren't based on the movie they'll still use it as a reference point for what characters to include). And being a kids product they'll use what's most identifiable and those five are probably the most recognizable. Jean and Cyclops aren't in the movie, so I doubt we'll see them in the set.
  9. I agree, Mystique definitely seems like she could be a real minifigure. I also think Storm is going to appear in that set too. Her design also looks quite official. Plus the women need to be better diversified, I'm tired of seeing only redheads in this theme. They need to branch out. While I agree that is a lot of the strategy at play I disagree that it's Lego doing it. Marvel at the end of the day is pulling the strings, they set the guidelines for Lego. They control everything, they tell Lego exactly what they can put in a set or not. And Lego did try, all of these builds aren't that particularly bad, the problem I think sits elsewhere with the design. The colors are obscene in these sets. That helicopter would be great if it wasn't obnoxiously colored. The same with the lab. Blue, Gray, black and yellow? They colored it Thor's colors. Those two sets would have looked great if they were colored differently. At the end of the day it's Marvel in control and they don't really have that great of a handle on any of their merchandising. Granted with the trike that was sort of an impossible mission to begin with. I've seen that vehicle used in other Marvel products, so that gem is their doing. The spider-helicopter I can understand from the perspective that Spider-man at times may need to leave Manhattan. The Trike on the other hand has no practical use, especially on the jammed streets of New York. Honestly though there isn't much Lego could have done to pretty up that little monstrosity, its hard to make a good looking vehicle of that size without it looking a bit messed up.
  10. I really wanted those tentacles too. However I ended up building those tentacles a few weeks ago and honestly they may look great but they suck. They fall apart so easily, there's little to no stability to them. And worst of all is that even when you hook the tentacles to something the minifigure weight sort of drags the entire thing down or makes it lean in an odd direction. But if you really want them all the pieces do exist, they're just not practical outside of the game. Granted this certainly isn't the first time Lego designed something for looks over practicality (Harley Quinn's motorbike is stupidly unstable when built in real Lego).
  11. I completely agree with your list. I get the impression that they used the USM variation of Goblin and Electro just because it was more similar to the movie versions than the 616 counterparts would have been. I mean I realize that the sets are mainly based off of USM to begin with, but Doc Ock's appearance sort of shows they aren't exactly stuck to USM variations all the time. So the variations they selected were more for tie-in purposes, a pretty calculated move on their part. After seeing the trailer the villains are definitely closer to their Ultimate counterparts. This version of Green Goblin has grown on me. Seeing the finished product did improve my opinion of it. And I feel like one way or another they'll get to a classic Goblin eventually. I mean the TV series is bound to end eventually and at that point they'd probably start to base Spider-man sets off of something else.
  12. I'm pleased that the video game designs were used for all of the characters. Granted I wish that they hadn't done the USM version of Goblin, but the fact that they gave us the Doc Ock from the game pleases me to no end. I actually like the builds for all the sets, I don't love the color selection though. The helicopter would be great if it weren't red and blue. Electro is perplexing. I think the blue body was a mistake, they should have given him some sort of suit to wear. Honestly the differing blue is almost more distracting rather than being complementary. Also I am so disappointed that we didn't get a new Spider-man variation. I have hated that variation for so long now, I am thoroughly irked that I'm going to have a total of five of that crummy variation while I have four Iron Man variations. The four main Avengers have at least two variations each and appear rarely in sets, meanwhile Spider-man has an entire sub-theme around him and we're still stuck with that variation. There better be an exclusive set on the way to right this.
  13. No, they won't have ASM variants, but they might have ASM2 variants. I would say that the contracts for Spider-man probably only cover a certain number of movies. For instance Lego covered the first two movies and Megablocks covered the next two. There were varying amounts of time inbetween those movies, which tends to suggest the contracts do indeed revolve around the number of movies, rather than years. So if the pattern holds than that means that the Megablocks contract is up. I would say Megablocks no longer has the rights. If they did they'd have made an announcement or something. I mean the movie comes out in 6 months and yet they're not showing anything. Meanwhile all the other merchandising has already been announced and previewed. Based on the fact that Megablocks has said nothing I think we won't be seeing any more Megablocks sets. In fact it could be that there just aren't going to be construction toys for it this time around. Perhaps Disney decided to focus on the USM line rather than introduce a movie line for it.
  14. Those are from the first ASM, so those don't really mean anything for the second film. What we do know is that Disney acquired the merchandising rights for Spider-man. I feel that its unlikely that Disney would give Megablocks the rights to ASM2. It wouldn't make sense to let Megablocks create a product that directly competes with Disney's own products. Granted I don't think we'll see actual sets for it, other than perhaps an exclusive set or just some sort of minifigure exclusive polybag. But the odds aren't great. Though even if they didn't make sets now they'd still have the ability to later on.
  15. Seeing these make me wish they had just gone with regular minifigure heads. It's not that I don't think the sculpted heads look good, they are surprisingly good. My problem is actually that this head style limits them. I mean with a normal minifigure head you can print an endless amount of facial expressions. With these they're kind of stuck other than maybe the eye printing. In order to get different facial expressions they would have to sculpt new heads. That just disappoints me, we'll probably be stuck with these somewhat frowning faces for a while. Or maybe Lego will surprise us and give multiple variations of the molds (Though that's probably to costly to be practical). I also suddenly realized that their height means no standard sized doors for this theme.
  16. I'm glad they at least are including women pretty regularly, though variety is still a problem. On the plus side Mary-Jane's head seems to have black/brown eyebrows instead of red, so at least it has a wider range of use. I was really hoping we'd see Vicki Vale for DC this year, after all she's a relatively important character in the Batman mythos. And hopefully down the line we'll see a comic Lois Lane. The Amy Adams one turned out to be really awful... And I'm still holding out hope we might see Gwen Stacy as an exclusive minifigure or in an exclusive set to promote ASM2. The video game design was spot on and I'm just waiting for enough characters to be released so I can do an ASM #121 moc. I get the feeling I'll be waiting a long time for a comic Green Goblin though...
  17. He has hair in the prelim. So I don't think it's impossible. Plus Flash and Batgirl don't match their game counterparts, so it's not really a set rule that they have to.
  18. Seeing the final figure it actually doesn't look bad. The big head actually looks like a natural fit. And short sleeves printing! Finally!
  19. I'm hoping Lego actually makes a new hairpiece for Power man.
  20. Honestly I don't think you understood the point of my post at all. I was just saying it was my opinion and I have a right to have it and that as a kid I didn't buy those types of sets, it wasn't my interest. And I agree that most kids will like them, but not every kid will, because not all kids are the same. And I rate these products as an adult because I am an adult fan of Lego. Just because it's a toy doesn't mean that I should give a free pass to things I feel are inferior. And while kids will buy them I still think Lego could have made a better product that could have appealed to a wider range of builders. Sure, hitting the 5-10 market is fine, but Lego probably could have made a product that appealed to all ages, they do it all the time with other sets, why should these be any different? And honestly even for the age group these are intended for I feel like they could have done better, they could have added more play features and another minifigure. Sure it's good enough, but it could have been better.
  21. It's a very valid point as I know what I did buy as a child and what appealed to me. As a child I didn't buy battlepacks, or the mini-builds and I didn't waste my money on the $10 sets as I wanted to save up for something that was good rather than half of a wall featuring Luke. I personally didn't like sets like that, I just didn't care for scaled down vehicles and so I didn't buy any. And as a child I didn't buy sets just for parts either. I only bought what I really wanted. Because I was once a child I remember what I bought and why I wanted it in the first place, and the Microfighters just don't fit into what I was into at the time, maybe if I was a child in this time period I would've been different, but I'm not. I was voicing an opinion based on my own experience. I wasn't saying it was everyone's opinion, I was saying it was mine. And just because you talked to a couple of kids doesn't mean that their opinions represent every child's. Everyone is different which is why we all have separate opinions. This is a forum, we're all allowed to have opinions, even strong ones. Just because you don't agree doesn't invalidate my personal opinion.
  22. As much as I hate to admit it the microfighters are pretty lame. I like the figures and I like the parts, and that's why I will definitely buy a few, but what they are by themselves as a product kind of sucks. Honestly if I were a kid I wouldn't want those at all. I wouldn't want a single minifigure with a microbuild of a much bigger vehicle. Even being poor as a kid I would have rather saved up for something bigger or at least a set that has more going on. These sets seem boring to me as they are and are only good in relation to what I plan to do with the pieces. So on that level that level they sort of fail.
  23. I think Lego went a tad overboard on the wrinkles, but it's still good overall. It's strange that this Palpatine looks older than the one from Palpatine's arrest, considering the fact that one was the beginning of the movie and the other the end. Oh well, it's a good looking figure at least. The robe printing is definitely interesting.
  24. Honestly I like the microfighters better than the planets. The planets were interesting, but pretty limited, there are after all only so many recognizable planets, so that series had an expiration date on it before it even hit shelves. I mean the asteroid field one was just sad... I mean they hit the bottom of the barrel remarkably quick. The microfighters on the other hand, while mostly silly looking, provide a good range of pieces. Useful ones at that. And there's an almost countless amount of vehicles out there, so at least there's plenty of material to use in these sets (Granted several series in we'll hit the less than recognizable vehicles that nobody cares about). Honestly I'm just glad to have a cheap way to buy minifigures.
  25. Agreed. It is definitely a disappointment they didn't really improve the design. On top of the landing gear they didn't really do anything to fix the brittleness of it as far as I can see. Honestly I tire of popping those wings back on and retrieving R2 when his seat unexpectedly falls out from under him. Also I honestly am tired of the clunky cockpit piece. I've never really liked how they use the printing to indicate where it actually should open, but it doesn't. I feel like with as many times as Lego makes specialized limited use parts they could have made a new cockpit piece that opens correctly. After all it's a style of cockpit that appears pretty often in the prequels, they'd certainly get good use out of a new mold.
