  1. Well certain aspects look more similar than others. Compare the Minifigure designs in the Thor 2 poster with some of the LOTR minifigures, they do share some pieces and have certain characteristics in common. And Some locations, especially ones in the trailer where various battles are taking place look very similar to battle scenes in LOTR. And when similar elements like that are approximated in Lego form they'd probably look too similar. Of course there are parts that aren't comparable at all. And the other problem is that Superheroes is a vehicle based theme most of the time and Thor 2 doesn't really have much in that area from what I can see in the trailers.
  2. There's a difference though. Batman stuff has always sold wildly well. Even when the movies suck they still makes hundreds of millions of dollars. Whether he's mediocre in your opinion or not he still makes a lot of money and so Lego will continue to have him anchor the line. I won't agree about him being boring or mediocre, I find him as interesting as any of the other Avengers. I think what's problematic about Thor 2 sets is that it's mostly set in Asgard and features a lot of fantasy realm medieval type looking characters and set pieces. As a product it would probably look more like something out of the LOTR theme and thus wouldn't have fit abundantly well in a superheroes theme full of alien ships, military vehicles, mansions and modern buildings. Even the characters themselves look more like LOTR characters than superheroes (I swear it looks like Jane stole Arwen's dress). And looking at the trailer a lot of the action seems to take place with big battle type scenes in sort of wide open locations, which would be difficult to really capture in a Lego set. And locations like the palace in Asgard would either be too immense or too detailed to really look good without it being a monstrously huge set (I'd like to see it as a D2C, but anything less would probably be a waste). And the scenes in London don't look that particularly interesting other than that black ship. I'm just not sure Thor 2 particularly lends itself to Lego at the scale the sets would end up being. I would rather they just throw in some of the characters in other sets and skip what would ultimately probably end up being underwhelming builds (After those awful looking IM3 sets I can only assume Thor 2 sets would be just as badly designed).
  3. I'll admit, as much as I like Thor, I wouldn't buy a set just based on him. Part of my problem is that I imagine a purely Thor based set looking mostly like something from LOTR. In fact a lot of those characters designs for the minifigures on the Thor 2 poster mostly look like LOTR characters, so to me it's just a bit boring. Even the prospect of a new Thor and Loki isn't that appealing based on how they look pretty much the same in the poster as they did in the Avengers sets. Now if they gave us a much better printing, new facial expressions and new molds for hair that actually look like they do in the movie then I might bite. Even the potential of getting Jane in minifigure form doesn't wow me (It's not like we don't have a Natalie Portman face already). And I like the idea of the Avengers sets next year, instead of focusing on just one comic book franchise they're putting in characters from many franchises. I'd rather have a wider range of characters than just a Thor based set.
  4. I would assume they'd do something modular style and make it so that the top floor lifts off the bottom. With the way the Simpsons house looks in the show I can't imagine a doll house like split in the center would work that well because there would be walls blocking off some rooms. It works for the haunted mansion because they have one room per floor so everything is easily accessible, but with the Simpsons house they have multiple rooms per floor, it just wouldn't be practical.
  5. Well I'm still holding out hope that TLG will put in either movie designs or game designs for the minifigures. Who know's, maybe the sets aren't actually based on those cartoons, after all do we really have any confirmation that the Avengers sets are based off the show or that the Spiderman sets are based on USM? Most of the Avengers sets and even some of the Spiderman stuff sound sort of as if they're based on the game based on the description we've gotten. So for now I'm going to be hopeful that's the case. At the very least if they give us a variation of Spiderman that looks like that Comic Con exclusive I will be immensely happy. Personally if we do get a big Marvel exclusive set this year I hope it's either Xmen related or based on something iconic from Spiderman (#121 comes to mind, especially after I saw this screenshot on Brickipedia: http://images.wikia.com/lego/images/2/2e/Gwen_Stacy.JPG). Either one of those things and the Marvel line will be a hit to me.
  6. Yeah, I was hoping for something darker as well, maybe a new 52 version to go along with Batgirl and Nightwing. But I suspect we might see one more variation next year. If indeed this blue variation is a part of the juniors line than that means that in the superheroes theme itself there will be only two variations when we usually get three a year in the sets. So I'm hoping to see one more. Granted it's just a theory based on two years of sets which is hardly definite proof, but I can be hopeful. And Lego does have an affinity for putting out as many variations as they can. On another note I'm really hoping that they give us classic Robin in the juniors set. I never picked up any of the original Batman sets, so I don't have a Dick Grayson Robin.
  7. Mary Jane is pretty likely, but I would rather get Gwen Stacy. In a perfect would I would also want comic Green Goblin so that I could do a moc of #121, but apparently this is not a perfect world. Also I'm tired of getting so many red-headed female characters in these sets. We've have five women with varying shades of red appear in the sets, plus Pheonix. Although I suppose Lego could fool us all and put Betty Brant in the set.
  8. Very interesting... Just a few questions: Is Doc Ock's hair black or brown? Is Spiderman's girlfriend red headed or Blonde?
  9. Actually it seems Gwen's look is based on her comic book appearance in ASM #121. The movie recreates this look except for her hair band and the colors used are more pastel colored. The Lego version has both the hairband and the exact coloring as the comic book counterpart. I'd really like to see her in a real set. Also we don't have enough hairpieces depicting bangs.
  10. We definitely need more X-men sets (Or any really). That Wolverine mask is awesome. Also we need none USM sets. Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy and Mary-Jane plus all the Spiderman variations look great. Honestly I would pay an indecent amount of money for Spiderman sets with these minifigures instead of those USM ones. It almost feels like we're being taunted since most of these figures we'll never get or at least we'll be waiting years to get.
  11. Well after a few days to sink in I'm finally okay with them. It's not how I would have done it, but they don't look bad overall. And I'm glad Lego got this license. It hopefully means they'll try more adult oriented sets in the future. We all complained when they turned down Serenity as a set, maybe this is a good first step towards more adult type sets.
  12. I will agree the newer one looks better, but unfortunately it's still too bucket like for my taste. I really like on the Flash how the head is the color of the mask piece and so the mask piece itself doesn't have to cover the neck. With Batman it just looks weird to me that his cowl covers his neck all the way down to his shoulders. Masks are supposed to conform to the shape of the head and neck and the bucket style cowl doesn't do that very well. Granted the new mask style makes the top of the Flash's head look a bit weird, but in the movies because of the ornamentation and room for hair and whatnot the masks always kind of look a bit goofy on top anyway. I can more easily live with that over the bucket shaped cowl.
  13. I would love a new cowl for Batman. Honestly one of my problems with the original Batman theme and my main reason for not buying any of the sets was because of my complete dislike of the bucket style cowl. I warmed up to it eventually, but still I'm not really a fan of it. After seeing the Flash minifigure I've come to the conclusion that I would prefer Batman's cowl to be like that. Sure it makes the head shape a little weird looking, but Batman would no longer look like he was wearing a bucket on his head. Granted I don't think Lego is going to give us a new mold any time soon since we got the Nolan one not that long ago, but they might surprise us (Like they did with the Nolan one).
  14. That looks pretty good. I was expecting a bigger duck, but really I shouldn't have considering the price range. For a small set this is pretty impressive though. I can't wait to get a better look. So far the only difference I see on Penguin is that the stick for the umbrella is brown instead of black. Really if they gave him another facial expression I'd be perfectly happy.
  15. Yeah, I definitely have to agree with you. Really the figure is well designed, but there's nothing that overly special about it, so it is sort of disappointing. I've said it before and I'll say it again we need more supporting characters. Vicki Vale would have been a perfect match to the steamroller set (Considering the Joker seems to be based somewhat off the 89 movie which also featured Vicki Vale). In general we rarely get any civilian characters. I mean in our line up there's few characters for the superheroes to save (Which is ironic considering that saving people is pretty much all they do). Lego really needs to branch out in their character selection, we need some civilian characters thrown in, somebody for our heroes to be saving. Heroes after all need motivation. And they're finally branching out when it comes to heroes (Batgirl, Flash, Nightwing, YAY!), but our only civilian characters end up being that same stupid guard (Who apparently can't hold down a job). Come on Lego, flesh out our cast of characters some.
  16. I realize that. The reason I entertained the possibility of them using that head is because the bandana sort of fits the look of the henchman (Bandana's can be a bit thug like especially when combined with that face) and Lego does reuse parts (Satipo's head for instance is used very often). Again, I don't believe they'll use that part, but I'm not going to say it's impossible (I've seen lazy reuse of parts, so I don't think Lego is above that all the time).
  17. Yeah, it's been noticed. I think the concern is whether or not Lego would reuse a head like that. I doubt they're seriously sticking us with this head, but you never know.
  18. Not loving Joker's henchmen in the steamroller set. Hoping that head is temporary and not the real thing. The torso is interesting, but not overly exciting. I'm okay with getting henchman, but I sort of expected it to be better than that.
  19. I agree, I didn't say it should be an exclusive set. It should be a regular set at a smaller price point, $60 or less, a facade with a couple of play features. And when I talk about expanding the line I mostly mean in terms of building style, locations instead of vehicles. The DC side probably won't move away from Batman for quite some time just because of his continuing popularity, so I really don't entertain that idea in my mind at present because it won't happen now. My point is that if we're going to get Batman/Gotham based stuff it should be locations rather than ill-fitting vehicles that are all remarkably dull. When Batman's popularity winds down then I'm sure Lego will shift the focus, but until then they won't budge.
  20. The point of my post was to say what they could do with a Wayne manor, if one were to ever be made because everyone acts like nothing ever happens there. It is important in the Batman world and one of the few constant locations we see. Wayne manor is as relevant in Batman's world as the X-mansion is in the Xmen's world. And Hogwarts shares little in common with Wayne manor. Also the scale of the Wayne manor I was describing would be something in the $60 range and just a small playset, honestly I don't need a $120 set because it wouldn't reach the scale of Wayne manor anyway. I would like the set as a jumping off point for a bigger build, and as a way to get civilian versions of the Bat-family as it seems unlikely we'd get them any other way. I would like the X-mansion, but personally I would rather see an X-jet over the X-mansion any day. And for anyone using the logic of "it's the batcave that makes Wayne manor relevant" I could easily argue it's Cerebro and the lab underneath the X-mansion that makes it relevant. All in all X-mansion and Wayne manor are the same thing just in different comic universes. What it bowls down to is do people want DC or Marvel. I'm not saying one is better than the other or that we need one more than the other, I was just listing options for what could be done and defending it's relevancy as a location in it's respective universe. And I think the main clamor for Wayne manor is because we get few actual buildings in the Batman theme and mostly get vehicles. I would like to build up the city which is so far comprised of a bank, a batcave and an asylum. If the DC line is going to focus on Gotham I expect notable Gotham locations instead of villains riding around in tacky vehicles that make no sense (Dragsters, tow-trucks and mole machines really don't fit with the villains they're paired with). Granted I feel the same way for the Marvel side of things too. In the end Lego needs to expand their line.
  21. I feel like if they're doing special head molds they might as well and go all the way and do new molds for the rest of the body. Honestly those heads look wrong on a standard minifigure body.
  22. Well they could do a Ra's Al Ghul set taking place in Wayne Manor like in Batman Begins. They could do a set where Bane attacks Bruce Wayne as it happened in the comics. They could do a set where Mr Freeze ambushes Wayne Manor as it happened in The New Batman Adventures. Plus there was a handful of episodes of Batman Beyond that took place at Wayne Manor. A simple facade with a study, an entrance and a library with some sort of hidden batcave entrance, throw in any of those villains I mentioned and add some some play features like hidden space behind pictures, falling beams and whatnot. Throw in Bruce Wayne, Tim Drake and Alfred and you have a pretty neat playset.
  23. I realize they're supposed to be red, it just looks off to me. I usually associate red eyes with evil. I'm sure I'll get over it though. I'll definitely be switching the hair, and in time I'll learn to live with evil eyes. Plus the torso printing is so great I can overlook the rest.
  24. It looks really good. I guess my problems are the hair and the eyes. The hair, while a good piece, doesn't quite fit. The eyes being red make him look a bit evil too.
