  1. Very awesome little piece here. All of the characters and scenes are instantly recognizable, there's a minimal use of new molds (I think the Tin Man's hat is new), and I like how the Yellow Brick Road is built. They even threw in the trees that sound a bit like Popeye. If this does make it to 10,000, then TLG has a rather tough choice between this or Ghostbusters. I know it's a very tough decision for me, not even considering what else TLG has to choose from here.
  2. Part of me wonders if Lego will get with both groups and negotiate the design of the Ecto-1 and the minifigs (Which I agree, do look a little better here). Design isn't too bad either, but I like the other design a little more. That's why I say both groups could collaborate with Lego and have these similar minifigs and use the best of both designs to make a great set. Slimer, as iconic as he is, isn't completely needed here, since most of us could make ghosts to bust (I myself have tried making the Scoleri Bros. in purist form). But yeah, props to these guys.
  3. Too old for Lego? Never! All joking aside, Lego is a toy everyone can enjoy. I think you'll find there are several types of FOLs around here, from collectors to MOCers, to minifigure customizers and every other Lego maniac under the sun. Besides, if Lego was strictly kid stuff, many of the bigger, more expensive sets would be shelf warmers. That's the reason why we have the modular buildings, USC Star Wars sets, and I'd go as far as saying Lord of the Rings with its emphasis on detail. To say Lego is child's play is ignorant, but unfortunately there are people who like to keep social stigmas alive and well and lump Lego fans as manchildren or cellar-dwelling geeks. Not true , as most AFOLs I know both on this site and in person are all productive members of society, but I think I'm getting off track. Just to put things in perspective, if Lego was strictly a children's toy, this community would look a LOT different. Don't be afraid of the "ordinary" people, Lego happens to be our hobby, and the person judging you may have a few skeletons in the closet as well. Keep calm and brick on!
  4. Yep, they're Monster Fighter heads all right. Redbeard is Jack McHammer and the lady pirate is Anne Lee. I also recognize Cole from Ninjago in there as one of the pirate twins. Anyway, interesting little fig pack to say the least. I'm not sure if this marks the beginnings of a new pirate theme or not, since the monster minifig pack came out around the same time as Monster Fighters, but then again the rock band pack was more of a one-off, reusing CMF figures that are recolored, but I digress. I think this is just a one off generic minifig pack as a way to market off the spare pieces from MF and such. However I may be eating my words if a new pirate theme does surface.
  5. Agreed, and for someone who's supposed to be a legal secretary, I would have expected more from her. I suppose it's time I weigh in on it all. I was a fan of hers for a while, since it was refreshing to see a female AFOL reviewer in a mainly male dominated community, but I think she's playing the victim card a but too much here. Think about it, the Kreo comment was uncalled for (Even if they do have the JP license) and she kept saying it was Lego's fault (Which isn't entirely true) because they knew how "big" she was (That I think is fake). She has fans, yes, but as many have said before, a lot of them are younger kids who don't let their emotions get the best of them. A lot of them in fact are fans of the Brick Show (Which isn't surprising) Personally, Cuusoo has never been of much interest to me. I like the sets that have come out of Cuusoo (Back to the Future being a personal favorite), but I see it as more of a MOC showcase with the tiny chance of being a real Lego set. BQ should have known that ideas based on IPs that Lego currently has aren't successful, unless they borrow the design (Which they may have done for the upcoming Manbat set, I don't know). There are some ideas I do support (Like the Western Town and Ghostbusters sets) but a majority of them just seem like MOCs to me than actual sets, unless they're done in Lego's set style (And even then, there's a bit of tinkering with the design before it's finalized). As for BQ, I think she went about this all wrong and I do believe she needs to take a break from YouTube and even Lego for a while to clear her head and to stop the embarrassment from progressing.
  6. Heya Just2Good. What's shakin' bacon?

Not much! Just been a little busy with school. How about with you, Amset?

  7. I think that's the original Lego Studios vampire torso. Anyway, love these figures, especially the Carn-Evil and Iron Lady.
  8. Exactly, they've already done a few landspeeders with Luke and Obi-Wan, but the only Cantina they did was a rinky dink little watering hole in an older set (With an early instance of arm printing on Greedo), more or less thrown in while the Dewback and speeder took center stage.
  9. Looking at the set list, I too see the similarity between the choices and the show's intro. I'm satisfied with the scene choices, since they do fit the characters well enough (Lisa being a sax player, Bart and his skateboarding prowess, etc.) and it makes sense that the Simpson household is the biggest set (And one I'm excited about seeing the most), but I too am confused about some of the minifig choices (Like Sherri and Terri in Lisa's set). But all things considered, I'm looking forward to this series, at least seeing some pics.
  10. I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but we definitely need an update on the Mos Eisley Cantina. Given that other old sets have been redone with more accuracy (Jabba's Palace and Sail Barge, the desert skiff, etc.), I think the Cantina is definitely due. Just think of the potential, with some intergalactic bar flies (Like the thug that talked to Luke when he first came in before meeting Han), of course Han and Greedo would have to be in the set, and some other bits and bobs. Same goes for Dagobah. I know the old Dagobah was an excuse to get another X-Wing with some vines, Yoda and his hut thrown in as afterthoughts, but I think an update would be brilliant, given that both Luke and Yoda have been given slight redesigns since then. Maybe a larger hut along the lines of Hagrid's hut from Harry Potter. Throw in some play features that have Luke "practice" the force and you have a killer set. You don't even have to throw in the X-Wing (It would be better without TBH) to make it complete. Just my 2 cents. I know I'm not a regular here, but I've always thought these two scenes were in dire need of a revamp.
  11. Part of me wish they actually used something like this in the Alien Conquest series, a sort of brain harvesting station, but of course that might be a little violent for Lego. I like this, it reminds me of some of the mocs I used to build as a kid (I was obsessed with building labs for my space people), even down to the piece selection (Like those octagonal windscreens as specimen chambers or wires). Thanks for giving me a largely unintentional nostalgia trip.
  12. So a friend of mine on Twitter sent me a link for a place called Pleygo, which is a site like Netflix where you can rent Lego sets for a monthly fee and the size of sets depend on your subscription (Anywhere from $15-$39). I ask this because it seems like an odd concept, and what raised my interest was the fact that this was not a Lego endorsed site, as I assumed it was a sort of "Try before you buy" site, since they say you can pay the MSRP for the set if you want to keep it. Doing a bit of digging around has shown me that they do indeed have current sets (Like the LOTR Summer sets) and you can create a wishlist of sets to be sent out during your subscription period (You get the next in the rotation if you send it back or purchase it). It seems odd, given that there might be some problems that will inevitably fall on some sets (Like cracked bricks or worn printing), so that makes the rental idea a little fishy, unless they can replace the affected parts, which would be difficult in some cases, due to the site not being owned by Lego itself, or like I said, affiliated with TLG. What I really want to know is if anyone here has heard of this place, if they've ever used this site, or if they have any more information on it, since the idea sounds ambitious, but I'm a bit iffy on the execution (Since in the FAQ they acknowledge the instance of missing parts). I never really thought there could exist a site where you rent Lego sets like they're movies or books. I'd post the site, but I don't want to seem like I'm advertising/endorsing the site, since again, the idea sounds a bit odd.
  13. Well, I'm sold. Thanks for clarifying!
  14. I primarily buy my Lego online, aside from the occasional Walmart stop or TRU visit. In all of my times buying from these places, I haven't had a first hand experienced with tampered packaging personally (As in, I didn't bring home a set with no minifigures), but if it counts, I've seen sets that have had beat up packaging and you can clearly see the insides of the box, and worse yet, people opening CMF blind bags in pursuit of a sought after minifig. It's for those reasons why I simply buy CMFs online, just so I can get who I want, even if it costs a little more and is a more sluggish process. Same goes for bigger sets, where there's more of a chance of an exclusive figure being missing in action. The chances are much lower for low-mid priced sets (Say, up to $50) in my experience, at least (The last tampered set I saw was a Monster Fighters Frankenstein set)
  15. Very nice model. I've always admired VW campers, since my dad owned one back in the 70s. It's just as recognizable as the big model, and the mini model is adorable. The hippie version is awesome too (And looks more like the one my dad had back then). The flowers are a great addition, but the color scheme looks a tiny bit convoluted. Not your fault, given the fact that doing a coherent design in this scale is a bit unheard of without print/stickers, but it looks a little pieced together. However, I think it fits the hippie aesthetic, if my old man's stories are to be believed. Overall, I'm impressed.
  16. A neat little impulse set. I've seen this all the time on eBay recently and I may just have to get this one. One question: Does the male minifig have a double-sided face? I seem to remember seeing that head having a scared face on the other side, but then again maybe this one has a single side done (Much like the orange sunglasses-wearing Alien Conquest face used in some 2012 police sets which have a single face as opposed to AC's double sided head)
  17. I like the Biff funny, Oky. I too have been eyeing up a Delorean ever since they approved it. I guess you could say you clinched the sale for me. Also, at first I didn't get the Libyan joke, but then I looked at some TV tropes of the movie and upon further inspection the guys trying to shoot Doc were Libyan gangsters/terrorists. I always assumed they were generic goons.
  18. Either one should work. I used a standard pencil eraser and it worked beautifully.
  19. Honestly, speaking as a fan of the Simpsons (I've been one since I was in diapers when they first came on TV) I'm excited about what sets they could make, even if they're fairly small. Of course key locations would be a must, but I'm worried about a couple of things, namely how they'll tackle the minifigures and what sets they'll do; either sets based on classic episodes (Monorail, Mr. Plow, Flaming Moe's) or do iconic scenes (Simpson household, Kwik-E-Mart, Power Plant, Lard Lad Donuts, Krusty's show, etc.)
  20. I actually tried this on a custom I'm working on (Bob Ross) and it worked like a charm. It's a bit more precise as well, since you don't have chemicals to worry about. If I get into custom work more, I'll keep this method in my bag of tricks. Thanks for sharing!
  21. Arise, dead thread, arise! My brother got a new camera and he wanted me to try doing a Lego pic with it. I must say, for a little cheapy ($150), it does a bang up job, don't you guys agree?
  22. Now what I do for some of the more "Exotic" figures is use the heads. That's mainly why I love the CMFs, their expressions are a lot more varied than your generic townies/police/goons.
  23. I use CMF figures along with generic townies. Some work better in a town setting than others (Mechanic and butcher as opposed to the mech or Minotaur).
  24. Awesome work! Jerry Lawler and Good Ol' J.R. are instantly recognizable, as is Cole. Not bad, but the ropes would look better with Lego rope. Otherwise, fantastic ring!
  25. Ah, thanks for the clarification.
