New Action Themes for 2014?
Amset-Rah replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Yeah, I mainly see Chima, Ninjago's return, and The Lego Movie as action themes, though all three should promise some amazing offerings, if the one TLM set image is an indication. Though should we count it as an action theme or a license? -
Why haven't I commented on this yet? This is stupendous!

REVIEW: 9464 The Vampyre Hearse
Amset-Rah replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I have yet to get the castle (I'm actively looking for it) but either stickers will work, in fact, I hope I don't get the GITD stickers for the castle. The only GITD element I feel is needed is the moon piece and the vampire heads. I feel the effect is better for physical pieces than stickers anyway, which I guess may be a reason this theme was created, to showcase the improved GITD plastic (Solid white as opposed to a milky look). -
REVIEW: 9464 The Vampyre Hearse
Amset-Rah replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
On the sticker issue, even if it didn't glow, it's not a dealbreaker. I still love the design all the same, and it reminded me for the longest time of some of those Rat Fink hot rods. Though in retrospect, it would have been just as awesome to have a traditional horse-drawn hearse with some glow in the dark skeleton horses and a similar play-feature. Just part of me thinks that Vampyre having a hot rod and a decrepit castle seems a little strange, but I'm not complaining. -
I love how you used minifig skeleton parts for the hand/fingers. The skull itself has a nice cartoony look to it too. Great job!

Excellent review, but I don't think the set is all that and a bag of chips. The interior is bland and uninspired and the overall look is rather generic. I like the minifigs and the modularity of the segments to where you can add the Gatehouse Raid to it, but maybe I've been spoiled with sets like the Vampyre Castle and even the Kingdoms castle and joust sets. This set is perfect for kids, but only a few AFOLs are biting because of some of the interesting parts, particularly the golden sword.

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
Amset-Rah replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
So I picked up one of the Man of Steel sets on a whim and wasn't expecting much, seeing as I haven't seen the film yet and I'm not much of a Superman guy as I am Batman, but I was pleasantly surprised. Both Superman and Zod are amazing minifigs and the scenery (The rubble and radio tower) is a nice add-on that I've expanded upon. The car's pretty nice too, though I think there's a bit too many exposed studs and the seating area's a little clunky, but I understand it's supposed to be more of a set piece than a car. Again, I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know how relevant the set is to the film, or even such a scene exists (Like Mandarin's flame-throwing go-kart). Still a steal for $12 and I'm interested in checking out the Smallville set too, but the other themes are beckoning me. -
So I know I'm not a regular here on the Chima board, but I thought it's interesting to see how many folks say Chima is a shelf warmer and whatnot. At my local Walmart, the Chimas are selling like hotcakes. At least if you compare with the City sets or some Star Wars offerings. There's even some of last year's City stuff left behind (Like the Dirt Bike Transporter, which is good because I need to get another one of those). However, none of the new Chimas are there yet (No Gorilla Striker or Furty/Skinnett Speedorz). Some of the new Galaxy Squad and Castle sets are there, but mostly it's City, last year's LotR stuff (Uruk-Hai Army and Gandalf Arrives mainly). Interesting to see how it might not be doing as well in other areas, but here in Columbus they're hot.

Review: 79006 Council of Elrond
Amset-Rah replied to BrickBob Studpants's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This is one set I was looking forward to for a long time, and it doesn't disappoint. Not so much action, but an iconic scene nonetheless. I welcome the new gothic arch pieces and I can see them becoming a staple for medieval builders. I may have to get a few of these to stock up on some of these pieces and maybe expand upon the set a little. -
This is like if Red Riding Hood met Kill Bill. Great little MOC here, simple but classic.

LEGO Batman: Killer Croc's Lair (Cuusoo MOC)
Amset-Rah replied to BrickQueen's topic in LEGO Licensed
Hey, I think I recognize you from YouTube. I saw this MOC and thought it was gorgeous and supported it. I do hope you have a great time here with us. -
I always liked doing set modifications, and this is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Very nice for a first MOC! I too like the fold out cockpit.

I don't know, I like the blockiness here. It's not accurate, sure, but the Iron Man look is recognizable and it kind of has an old-school vibe that I dig. Still, a few bits could use a little smoothing out.

An excellent start to the Castle theme. The baddies are great, and it's a great army builder for both sides. The foliage and gold are big pluses.
-
Wolves represent! I saw the Rascal poly at Walmart and they had a boatload of them. Haven't picked one up, but I probably should for parts and because Chima piqued my interest with this next wave.
-
Well, you did my idea better than I could execute. I love it! I owe you one, man. Nice use of the Dark Knight minifig. The others are good too.
-
I may have to buy another one of these to make this. Great work!

Excellent moc, Nemo! I'm getting chills just looking at it (Thanks to all the icy details). Also the penguin floor tiling is superb.

Official Lego Club - IRON MAN "Tony Stark's Laboratory" In
Amset-Rah replied to becauseBATMAN's topic in LEGO Licensed
Not bad. Plenty of detail and a more respectable hall of armor, but yeah, none of Tony's cars? I understand if there's a trademark issue involved, but it's not a deal breaker. I may have to build this soon, actually. -
Stellar job! Makes me a bit nostalgic (Chip and Dale was one of my favorite cartoons growing up), and I believe you did the show justice with this piece. Great work!

Looking at the Summer wave, I don't think there's a miss in the bunch. I'm happy that the green and orange teams have the cheaper sets this go around and the blue and red teams are mre expensive. The Hive Crawler and mech are both must haves, but the Galactic Titan is a classic as well.

Usually I have a YouTube video or some music playing as I build. Sometimes I have the TV on in the background, and I usually have a drink with me (Typically coffee or tea).

It does harken back to the days of old with this set up, perfect for a Mad Love reenactment. As always I love your little details like Riddler's hat or Ivy's plant. Simple, yes, but sometimes less is more. Great job!

^Now I can see a Clown College pic once someone gets the series 10 clown. Do I have any more? Let me check.....Yep -
I haven't seen either polybag at my Walmart (Though they're swimming in the Gandalf, Chima, Star Wars, and Batmobile polybags, but no GS), which is a shame.
