  1. The iPad holder is really useful. Fits portrait and landscape mode with adjustable tilt angle. And it's free, just "steel" a few duplo bricks from your kids (who btw love to tear it apart only for me having to reassemble it. @Alasdair: As long as your happy while building... This was the way I was building as a kid. A hugh pile of unsorted bricks on the floor and scratching through the pile every seconds while hunting for one of a total of 3 of those decorated 1x1plates or half pin. I think I traumatized my parents with that noise. ;-)
  2. Here is my building place. It is actually our desk in the living room. I have most parts (the studless ones) stored in these four sorting storage. I plan to sort and store my studded parts as well.
  3. Here are the parts of my collection on display. My family „donated“ a cabinet in our living room. I’m glad i can keep it behind those glas doors to protect it from dust. The 8880 is from the time before my dark ages.
  4. That would be an ideal setup IMHO. To be honest most of us have enough official set and parts and winning another set would just contribute to the part count of our parts storage. The idealistic approach you suggested should be more than enough motivation. Frontpage, Hall of Fame and a unique tag - to say it with Dustin Hoffmann's words from the motion picture Wag the Dog: "I want the credit." Another suggestion: to keep the winning entry even more present the community could offer to make building instructions for this particular model.
  5. The video is great. I got both books for christmas, i just haven't had the time to built the models yet.
  6. Interesting. Do you have a small video of the trucks performance? Do you plan on making a trailer after the truck is finished? By the size of the truck it must be 1.5 - 2.0m long. Looking forward to see it finished.
  7. Is this supposed to become something like "Little Nellie" from the James Bond Movie "You only live twice". Like with all the gadget like machine guns and rockets etc. Anyway, I like the simple idea behind those gryrocopters, they seem to be a lot of fun and far less complicated than helicopters.
  8. Looks good so far. Try to incorporate the receivers into a cabin. This would improve the look of the front section.
  9. I would try a chain solution maybe a chain that encircles all three wheels. At one point I would pull it inwards with the driving gear. When I first looked at the picture I had this in mind: http://www.wagner-haltern.de/shop/db_images/gallery/detail/26f5bd4aa64fdadf96152ca6e6408068.jpg ;-)
  10. Just before christmas i acquired an eBay lot for 110€ containing: 4 x RC/buggy motor 1 x RC unit 2 x of the last revision 9V Motors 1 x M-Motor 1 x PF LEDs 3 x 9V Battery Boxes 2 x large LAs 3 x small LA 1 x PF switch 2 x damped shockabsorbers/springs 2 x short 9V wires 2 x pneumatic Airtanks 10 x pneumatic cylinders (square base) 1 x small pneumatic cylinder 3 x pneumatic pumps 5 x valves several hoses The parts needed some cleaning and the buggy motors may required a bit a of lube/grease, but the price put a smile on my face.
  11. If the engine your building has the cog wheel on the same axle, it makes things easier. I was refering to European steam locos that even have a separate steam engine for the cog axle as it differs in sizes (usually much small and located on a lower level between the axles).
  12. I would give the XL Motor a try. IMO it would hard the synchronize the Train Motor (for adhesive traction) with the (whatever PF Motor for) cog propulsion. Anyway, great project. I like trains.
  13. He Welcome to EuroBricks Longhorn! It's great to see new members and people new to Technic. You kind of remind me of my grandpa ('88) who got his first Lego set for Christmas, the Sopwith Camel. To answer some of your questions: The pneumatic tubing is colored to make the building process easier. Blue stands for basic undirected airflow within the system up to where a valve comes to enable a function. Black and grey tell you wether the air goes to the top or bottom inlet of the piston. I got myself additional silicon tubing from ebay: 4mm wide, 2mm opening, wall strength 1mm. To acquire the parts for making the Unimog remote controlled (driving), turn to S@H (official Lego online shop or BrickLink, which is an unofficial marketplace for Lego parts new and used). You would need an L-Motor for propulsion and a M-Motor or Servo for steering. The M-Motor would sit upright in the cabin and be geared down, the Servo on the front axle. Than you need an IR-Receiver, probably 3 short extension wires and the IR-Remote. I would get the electric parts from Lego and the other parts from BrickLink, though there is no list for the required parts. you also might want to try nicjasno's modded front axle for better steering. Anyway, enjoy your Unimog. It is the best set owned so far, and i have quite a few flagships.
  14. Mostly, both pictures shot in the motion.
  15. Maybe we took a wrong approach to explain the picture. Maybe it is flying but less in an aerodynamic way but more in a ballistic way. We should see this as a way of a decelerated fall (the power of the M-motor working against gravity, regardless of the efficiency of the blades). It is flying backwards to earth basically.
  16. Though i will wait to get the plane until i can get a good discount on the MSRP my ideas would be: • remove the lifting mechanism for the nose as this would be rather uncommon for a plane of this size • working cockpit joysticks and pedals (i am thinking about the flex system here • working rudder connected to steerable nose wheel
  17. Good job! Great performance. Way better than the 9398.
  18. I like the studded surfaces. The studs make it look like it has active armor.
  19. I just tried to install it on my 1st generation iPad. Apparently, iOS 6 or later is required which is a great disappointment.

  21. This is really impressive. Given the sizes of this moc, why don't you try a Self Build LA. I found this on TechnicBricks: http://www.technicbricks.com/2008/09/tbs-techtips-16-la-discrete-design.html
  22. I've seen the snow mobile in the store since two to three weeks now.
  23. Looks heavy! How do you plan on mounting it to the turret? Turntables?
  24. I'm not sure about the collecting value of the boxes. For decades my grandpa used to collect metal model trains dating back to the late 19th century/early 20th century. He always said that even for used toys, the value almost doubles when the box is supplied. As for the evaluation of the modern style boxes - one can determine this in maybe 20 years from now.
