@ Blakbird The renderings are beautiful. But the animated gif looks like the trucks front wheels skid due to being locked during an emergency break.

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to the community for all these entries. Great thanks to Jim for hosting the contest, it must have been a lot of work. I think this transparent approach is a good idea to show on how many votes the decision is based on. It is still secret as no actual/individual votes are shown.

Thanks for the input, Aanchir. i also think that the price for the molds (esp. complex, multiple surface Technic ones) can not be underestimated. These tools are so high precisioned to reach the quality standards we all love our bricks for. Few mostly unnoticeable birthmarks, clean but not sharp edges. Also the molds are made of multiple parts , not just two, as to make a bucket or so. Even if the final mold would just cost a couple thousand euros, i'm certain, that the development of the tools/production process counts up to these 100K in man-hours, materials for prototypes, lathe/CNC-time.

Ferrari 360 Modena
TinkerBrick replied to piterx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice little car. The only thing i kind of dislike is the fake engine. The cylinders just look too disproportionate. How about an engine like in the 9393 B-Model? -
Theme Month for Technic
TinkerBrick replied to VKTechnic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
How about a car themed March: Carch? Or Supercarch? -
This truck ist just stunning. My idea however regarding the building instructions would be to separate the truck chassis with the engine and maybe the cabin from the payload. The chassis would contain the main frame. The main frame would than carry a supporting frame for the payload/upperstructure (winged suitcase, dipping bed, crane and mounting points for a 20' container (TEU).

8x8 Trial Truck Chassis
TinkerBrick replied to 1nxtmonster's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The performance is great. I wish my 9398 would do so. But the movement of the independently steering front wheels remind me somehow of the eyes of a chameleon. -
42009 Extended Boom
TinkerBrick replied to afol1969's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
An even longer boom would be nice, no question. But imho, i'm a not to happy with the mounting point of the boom. I built both the regular and Jurgen's ultimate version of the 42009. The original mounting point for the boom is located rather just behind the operators cabin. But when i look at real life cranes, the booms are mounted further to the counterweight with just the winch drum located between the joint and the counter weight. Actually the place were the IR receivers sit would be ideal. This balances the boom and turret better esp. under weight. Has anybody tried to redo the turret and mount the boom further to the back? I know this would mean to totally reengineer the turret regardless of the version. But it would look more realistic. -
Great job! The mechanism is really cool. I never understood the purpose of the original 9395 B-models lift. Your garbage truck seems to be the way it should have been. Do you plan on adding a function to empty the container? Maybe dipping the whole structure or a shield that pushes the trash through the rear flap?

I have to second Blakbirds thoughts about this thread. I've been looking into this topic every few days or so. The discussion and the efforts of its participants a stunning. This is so much more than the usual show and tell of forums. I applaud to your commitment to our hobby and to bring its fellowers to a new skills. -
Your Best Technic Bargains
TinkerBrick replied to Kumbbl's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Last week I scored on eBay: some 3.5kg of Bricks including 2 L-motors, one Servo, a V2 Receiver, a 9V-motor, half a 9398 chassis and a nearly complete 8450 The Mission. Although the parts needed to be washed twice I got this for 65€. -
Learning through pain and frustration. Fortunately my girls (aged 2 and 4) didn't accomplished something like this yet. But they are highly interested in Lego. The younger in Duplo and the older in Friends and Basic/Creator.

I'm excited about the upcoming building instructions app (shown on the B-model picture of 42022). This would be a lot more convenient. Not having to browse the TLG website, downloading a pdf in questionable quality, opening in it/or importing into iBooks. I'd be happy if TLG would remaster all the instructions that sometimes look they manually scanned from the sole remaining print out and put together to a PDF file by a HighSchool student intern.

Technic General Discussion
TinkerBrick replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Greetings! I just browsed through the BrickLink Catalogue and found this part: x334c01, Technic, Axle Flexible 26L (Axle 2L and 4.5L Ends) with Dark Gray Cable. Could someone share his/her experience with this axle. I was surprised to find this. The sets (3571 and 3552) that included it were sold in my dark ages. It seems it could be useful, but it is any good. What amount of torque can it handle. Since a single axle costs almost 4€ in Germany, it would be helpful to get some facts on this one. Thanks in advance. Edit: I just found out it belongs to the Znap branch of TLG. But the axle should be compatible with Technic, shouldn't it? -
The pneumatic rams in legomania94s claw are not painted. The white balance of the picture didn't match the lighting. I built schermvlieger's claw with the small pneumatic cylinder the other day. I attached it to my unimog and added a second degree of freedom. Works great so far. It is a nice addition to the set of unimog tools.

Why do i have the feeling that Europeans are paying a premium for the motors? Considering the net price of around 12€ for the L-Motor (without sales tax, German S@H) the US net prices should be somewhere around 16.10$ (1€=1.34$). The German S@H charges about a 16.5% more. The servo price difference is less drastic though.

I meant the small BB for the AAA batteries. -
42024 Replica by dokludi
TinkerBrick replied to dokludi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great work. Nice video. I can image this set has quite some play value combined with a small/medium sized loader or excavator. @ dokludi You don't happen to have an assembled 8052 for a size comparison, do you? -

This is really cool. Have you tried using a single XL-motor and a small battery box to reduce weight and to keep the water line lower.
