I prefer a better exterior with hints of an interior. That way I can either continue the current interior or MOD it more to my liking. The exterior I can MOD as well, but traditionally I have liked how they were finalized, so I don't want to make too many alterations to the exterior. As far as Green Grocer, I definitely would want to MOD that a little shorter. I understand/respect a varied height roofline, but I don't want jarring height differences like Green Grocer/Town Hall vs Pet Shop/Parisian Restaurant. But I will be doing my own interiors of the existing Modulars anyway, so if they don't include one, it doesn't really matter much to me. Although (and as great as it looks), the PR does show a highly detailed interior that might be a bit too much, just compared to the rest of the line. I guess it shows the evolution over time of where it was to where it is. It does make you wonder if future releases will also show highly detailed interiors with varied heights/widths to the exterior footprint.

GregD - thanks for the link! I plan on displaying mine on shelves too, so I may look into these IKEA shelves. I've never been to one (the closest is about an 7-8 hour drive from here) So hauling things back would be troublesome and shipping is ridiculous. But they look nice.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures display cases
TheLegoDr replied to BigDumbWookiee's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Fruitini - That looks awesome! Is that just a shadowbox that you glued rows into? Or what type of shelf is that? I like the sealed front. rmushet - Those are hard to find. Impressive that you have so many. I've been looking for more too, but I don't want to pay the prices I've seen. I picked mine up for $10 at Wal-Mart a few years ago when they were on clearance. Haven't seen them again since. -
I am not sure on those prices since I never heard of GOTG until this message board started talking about them. So, it will depend on how awesome the figures/sets look before I decide to pick them up since I have no nostalgic attachment to them like X-Men or Batman. But at those prices, it may be a tough sell for me since there are other sets that are needed before they get retired.

I was already getting this set, but you have now made me want multiples of the figures (at least Batman's new head and Penguin's torso). The set itself looks neat, but I'll probably put the pieces in my parts bin. The figures are a great draw and it's great to get another version of Batman. If they are going to have so many of him, might as well make a few different versions. Thanks for the review.

I found the series at target lately so picked them all up. I had to go to two targets to get all 16 plus a few extras for my daughter. I'd say it is a pretty lackluster series overall, but my favorite figure is Shakespeare I think. It took me a while to find him. Just feel for the neck ruff piece. That really stands out, just like with the sad clown and the actor. Wyldstyle is easy to feel for, just look for the fan. That stood out the most for me. And taco Tuesday guy was easy to find because of his hat and the 1x1 tiles. I picked up two in case I need a second one. My poncho was creased though so it won't fit him correctly.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
I haven't seen that van before. I haven't kept up with the series or the movie. I like the tmnt sets though because it brings together two of my favorite childhood toys. Anyway, I'd love a Casey Jones figure, but it looks like it will be delayed. I don't know who done of these other characters are. I wonder how different the series figures look vs the movie figures in LEGO form. -
I am also unsure of this. It is quite large, but not super exciting. The tan is a useful color, but would be nice to have a new color. I'm still not sold on the figures. I considered getting the CMF because of useful accessories, but I am not in love with how they look. At over 2,500 pieces, this set won't come cheap. I think there are enough other exclusives I need/want that I wouldn't be able to afford this anyway. At probably close to $250 (like the sea cow) I don't see it as an easy purchase.

GregD - Do you have any more pictures of the GG Bakery you built? That sounds interesting. I want to build an ice cream shop thanks to the LEGO Movie Ice Cream set, but I hadn't thought about just changing colors on an existing set. That is crazy enough it just might work As for my Modulars, they are just on regular bookshelves that were built in when we bought the house. The sit on there in our guest room and then in my LEGO room in the basement. They look great next to each other so I'm sure I will have a different layout when we renovate the LEGO room.

I am currently in the process of doing this for Cafe Corner and Green Grocer..maybe eventually Market Street, although I don't particularly care for that one. It isn't a "true" Modular and it shows. It looks like some kid threw together a set in a rare color. Those windows . So that will be heavily modified, but with a similar color scheme, if I decide to do it. Now the other two modulars look great, but I am also modifying them as I see fit. Most of it will be original design in original color. I will definitely do (and would recommend) doing swaps as needed, as in 1x4 sand green or something similar instead of 1x8. I went through bricklink in my store and "added" one to my inventory to sell to see how much it would cost and just based on buying one in box vs how much I planned on eliminating, I would save at least a few hundred, so that brings it down close to $400 all from bricklink. Now since I have quite a few pieces outside of the sand green and a few specialized pieces, it will end up costing me a lot less than that. The problem is trying to calculate how much it cost me based on pieces from sets. Good luck on this adventure. Have fun and spend wisely. I think that is the best advice.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion

I am not really into classic space, but I definitely would be interested in Benny's ship. But the price definitely determines if I pick it up. The Sea cow will probably be a pass mostly due to price.- 2,626 replies

Surprisingly found them at a local Target. I didn't know they were out here yet. Normally we have to wait about a month after official release before they are anywhere near here. Anyway, felt through all that were available. No Emmets! How crazy was that. All of the 1x2 tiled figures were the Cop. Very odd, I thought. I'm now missing Emmet, mermaid, panda suit guy (only could get one, so gave him to my daughter), Wyldstyle and Shakespeare. I wanted to army build Shakespeare so that may be harder than expected. I was surprised they were out of some of the higher quantitied people (Emmet, Wyldstyle). I felt about a dozen Wiley Fusebots though. Hopefully I can find the rest sometime in the near future.

I was about to comment how clever it is to use yellow arms to make a yellow torso work for a Licensed skin tone. I will definitely look into that since there are so many great torsos in yellow. Keep up the great work.

Which is Your Favorite Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug Set?
TheLegoDr replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Lake-town Chase for sure. The build alone is neat. I like that type of architecture anyway, so that helped. But the colors were nice. The figures were really nice. I don't particularly care for the town Master, but his printing was impressive. Bard and the guard were the two best figures of the wave I think. I can easily picture myself expanding the town in that style compared to expanding the other sets. But ultimately I am buying these for the figures, so it doesn't normally matter about the build since I don't build the sets. But I actually built Lake-town.- 54 replies

^That has been my experience as well. The only comment I can include here is the back of the Lake-Town Guard polybag states it was distributed in USA. I'd imagine similar wording has been on the other releases. Not that LEGO wouldn't do another package for another country since they do already with their boxes, it just seems silly to change a few words on a plastic polybag,

Someone mentioned no dark Phoenix released, but the comic con figure does have a double sided head (one looks an awful lot like the Phoenix variation). I don't know enough about classic comics, so I'd assume her costume must be different too, but her head definitely resembles that.

Thanks for the review written in this way. Very clever and entertaining. Any other plans to do more? I guess, you could go back and do reviews for all of the old modulars too. I'm not sure how many of them are on EB, but we know none would be like yours! I definitely want to get this set, but since I do collect them, I will be getting them in order and still need the Cinema before I can pick this one up. But I love the color scheme. I love the parts usage in a lot of areas. Normally I try to MOD the sets a little bit to make them better for me, but I'll have to wait until this is in front of me to decide if I would want to change anything.

Great contest. A lot of great entries this year. Good luck to everyone. I wonder what next year will have in store for us...

Nicely done. I've been meaning to try my hand at a more improved version. I just haven't got around to it. But yours looks well done. I like the ornamental pieces on the back of the cabin. I like the overall height of the deck. I had considered going bigger like the IFS, but at the same time, I like the smaller build of this. Keep up the great work!

Neat build! That would be a good idea of a way to display the whole group because it doesn't take up a lot of space, but still shows off a lot of texture. Keep up the good work!

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Okay then. It can be difficult to understand people at times, sorry if I came across as rude then. If it is $150, that'd be great. I'm just going by what our local manager said. I still don't think I'd pay $150 for it just because I can think of a lot of other great sets that could use that money. As much as I love ships, it isn't what I would want to display.- 2,626 replies

What kind of magneto is that? I'd love a dark skinned female that doesn't have purple eyes like Stass Allie. It'd be nice to use them in MOCs for my castle stuff.

How to store LEGO to avoid scratches on bricks
TheLegoDr replied to Adam87's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Anytime bricks run against each other they can scratch. As in, when sitting in bags inside unopened boxes they can scratch each other. Unless you get them off the factory and store each brick individually, you may encounter some hairline scratches. -
