That old school army was before my time, so I never acquired any of them, but that is neat seeing them in such large quantities. I should get together my old (crusaders, black knights, etc) and take a picture. That's the hard part.

Green makes sense then. It is interesting choice since it is a new color for a classic space man.

I'm getting cracks in the bows and holders
TheLegoDr replied to Prince Manic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
^I hate to second this, but it seems to be coming true. In an average set I have that is how the pieces look. Lego only seems to replace so many and then they give you the run around. At least that is my experience. And even if they do send replacement parts, that doesn't fix the problem. It's just a crutch. They problem is, I mostly buy minifigures and a lot of them are cracked. -
Never trust pictures. Lighting throws off colors. Go by the inventories on multiple websites. Those are confirmed by multiple people on the correct color (most often). At the very least, find the last page of the instruction manual, and type in those ID numbers if you are unsure on the exact color. But as stated, the color palette shifted in the early 2000's, so some of the older colors won't exist anymore.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
These figures are decent enough. I think in the end they would be worth purchasing, but I don't like the new price for them, so it makes the so-so figures a harder sell. I would like something better for the pig guy. At the very least, make it a red apple since those are harder to come by. The spooky girl is nice. I love that teddy bear. My daughter will probably freak for it.- 1,109 replies

Behemoth - The cyborg is this, fyi. I do like the overall idea. The cell looks good. It does come off as he is in some sort of stasis, so you wouldn't need a lot of room. One would think that would be the ideal prison -- less risk of escape, less space required to house prisoners, etc. However, I'd almost think the Blacktron villain should be in there, instead of out. With that said, I'd switch the blue to lime to match Blacktron II colors, since he is the guard outside patrolling. But that's just me. The shaping works well though. I've been getting into my space sets again, so I may want to expand upon this and build something of my own. Obviously in Blacktron II colors since that is my go-to theme.

I almost was going to say the preview set was probably the other Ideas set The Exo-Suit. But I thought I read somewhere it was coming out August 1st...granted it isn't listed on this calendar so that can't be true either...

Nicely done. Very clever build. I like the curtains and the flags, like many others before me. The fig placement is good, as is the green plate to serve as the rug. There are only so many useful licensed heads, but this works well. Yay, for Ameribricks!

Lego 6286 Skull's Eye Schooner....Finally! :)
TheLegoDr replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Pirates
^How do you mean they changed the color? As in, grays became a different shade of gray? I've been meaning to try to de-yellow some old bricks/sails, but never have got around to it yet. Thanks for showing the pictures though. I do love the SES. -
Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?
TheLegoDr replied to KingPixels's topic in Community
Brickmamba - that Joker looks decent. I like the leg printing too. I think I may have almost bade on one of those, but then I never did. Who made that one? And those Things did look good. I'll have to wait for a good price on them too. My daughter loves playing with the big figs, so to throw in another one in the mix would be great. Especially if it means she won't play (destroy) my official Hulk or Goblin King. -
I'm guessing Thor would win against a lot of people. He is a god after all...And Mjolnir seems like a good weapon to have.

I think they went with these figures, just to have figures. They probably didn't want to put a lot of money into new prints to keep the cost down since it isn't a large set. They are just using what is in production for female heads. But I agree, new safety specs would be good. And the chemist should be wearing gloves, which would mean a new element ID basically to create that same torso with yellow hands vs with glove colored hands. So they probably just thought it would cut some costs/corners to do it this way. But if it is $20, then it will be an easy purchase and probably sell out quickly. Personally I'm surprised Mars Rover sold so well. I had no intention on buying one, but I'm not surprised it sold out of its initial run and never was re-ordered. It doesn't have the pop culture appeal like BTTF and Ghostbusters. And with this price on the new set, it will meet a lot of needs for people making a quick purchase.

Well, to use Pac-man as an example, the original does have "man" in the last name basically. And since she is Ms. Pac-man she isn't married to him, so maybe Pac-man is their surname and she just happens to be a single lady, so goes by Ms. It is no different than a Ms. Smith and brother Mr. Smith, in which a lot of his buddies may call him just Smith, as in Pac-man. Way off topic, but it makes sense to me. As for LEGO, that is disappointing that basically all females have to have lipstick to stand outagainst the men heads. There are some beardless heads that can work with either depending on the hair. But there are people in this world where gender is questionable by appearance anyway. So I guess that just gets transferred to LEGO. Not all women wear lipstick (and in fact, some men do wear make-up), so not sure how to handle this. I think it is a slippery slope. Most people playing with LEGO (read: children) won't notice or care if the females have long hair and make-up and the men have beards and short hair.

I'm not a neo classic space fan per sé, but this is great. Obviously the color scheme works, but I like the overall shape too. The fighter had a great aerial shape. Was that planned? And the Mech looks great. I need to work on some good mechs for my blacktron II builds.

I think some valid points have been made. I've never cared for that part, but it does make a good use of space/durability if I ever did decide to use it. I hadn't realized that Friends set was that small/expensive and to include that piece, I can understand the frustration. They could have definitely included more pieces to fill that in and pad the brick count. The downside, would it be sturdy enough? But then again, I've never been satisfied with Friends sets piece count vs price vs minidoll inclusion. It always seems to be way different than what I'd expect to be good value.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for showing us a few details. Are you just2rich?? You get every set it seems! As far as the figures, I am definitely not interested. Thanks for the comparison. I much prefer the cartoon version since that is what I was accustomed to growing up. I don't know if I can swallow the new look. I like the older shells too. I don't like the height on the new shells, but I think adding in weapon holders is a good idea. A bo staff and and swords definitely look better behind the shell. The foot soldier looks decent, but definitely not foot clan like I like the cartoon version. And that is a generic face, but it works perfectly for Gob Bluth. I hadn't thought of that before. The van looks great and I'd pick it up just for that, but I don't think the expense is worth it. I'll see if I can build/buy just the van and see how much that runs me. I can't wait to see more details on the other sets. I think I just want April out of the line-up. -
Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
TheLegoDr replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think that is the biggest misconception. International delivery will be more expensive, but probably not as expensive as you think. Plus, if that is the only place to get the piece, then what other choice do you have? I haven't ordered from overseas yet, but have been considering it. I'd suspect I'm more worried about the delivery getting lost than the price itself. But I'd inquire about shipping charges. Look at their splash/store info page and see what it says about international shipping. -
Panda Guy is looking for someone to play with.
TheLegoDr replied to legoman19892's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This was creepy. I can just picture a horror movie with a panda suit guy standing there staring at you. There is something ultra creepy about masks with emotionless faces. I guess that is why it works so well in horror movies.- 3 replies

To be honest, I never noticed color differences as a kid. Sure, some celebrities/athletes/strangers on the street were of a different color, but it didn't phase me. It wasn't until growing up hearing about it all of the time did I even start to notice. So as a kid, my figures were race-less. They were yellow. That's all there is to it. I guess you can call that "racist" since all of my figures were of the same race, but I never once thought of them as white. I can understand when it came time for the licensed theme and they wanted to portray the figures more accurately they had to switch something. And I personally love the Licensed themes/skin tones. Those are the only sets I actually buy, so without them I wouldn't be into LEGO right now. With that said, I wouldn't have been upset had they continued with all yellow for all races even with Lando. But had they done that, I don't picture them having some of the newer characters in LEGO form then. And you can say any of this is from a white man's perspective since that is what I am, but even my daughter doesn't pay too much attention to skin color on the figures. She happily mixes Friends dolls with Licensed figures with yellow figures and doesn't bat an eye. I think ultimately it doesn't matter, but people like to make it out bigger than it is. I know there are a lot of cultural/social issues not everyone can agree on, but this is just a toy. Should it really be this controversial?

^That's a neat case. I like how it is double sided. I would never spend that much money on one though. (I don't have any of those accounts on your blog, otherwise I would comment there.) Edit: I have been using one of these. Here is another picture. It works really well for smaller pieces (it doesn't have the larger sections like the above case). So I just put minifigure accessories and pieces in there. It seems to work well. But I only paid $3 at Hobby Lobby for mine. Everyone has their own systems and what works best for them. I'd like more organizers like the above, just at a different price.

I don't own the set. I have other clam pieces that don't pop open though. I have seen a lot of comments on this in the PR thread. I think someone mentioned bending the hinge part forward to make it stay? I'm sure you could contact customer service and get replacements, but that doesn't necessarily mean the replacements won't do the same thing. It probably isn't a defective part, just an odd mold that isn't used to being closed.

This looks really neat. I may have to MOD it too! I think the official set will look nice on its own, but this convertible looks delicious. It adds a lot to the overall design. I hadn't thought of Scala figures before. My daughter would probably go crazy for them...do I dare show her?
