I have yet to see the second installment. The first one left a bitter taste in my mouth, especially after loving LOTR. I love the Middle Earth license, but it isn't what I expected. The sets are decent, but I've been buying them for the figures. Even with a bunch of dwarf rehashes, the torsos come in handy for other figures. Smaug looks good, but I don't like the cost and will wait for a sale. I'm sure there will be one, just have to bide time. I typically would get the whole range for my birthday in December, but I think I will skip that this year and wait it out.

Very interesting MOC. I will agree, the debris around Superman is very well done. Solomon Grundy is a nice depiction. Naturally the small head on the large body looks weird, but the body is really well done. I haven't heard of this show or most of these characters, but you did a good job placing everyone. I could see this going over well at a convention show.

Sets with mixed old and new colors?
TheLegoDr replied to SirChrispy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That's very interesting. Although it does seem plausible with the color changes LEGO went through back then. I don't know what I would have made of that had i opened a box and had different shades of the same color, e ven though I wasn't supposed to. Does it change the look of the set at all? Does the mixing make it look bad? -
Just throw them under some dirt and rub that in. It will help dirty them up while still leaving hints of white underneath?? I know they are plastic sails, so it can be a bit different than cloth sails.

More Batman is always fine by me. He is the only character I really care about. But I do like variety. So far we have received better variety with Batman then we did with Spider-Man.

Maybe lego just didn't care about this license do they didn't go all out for sets. OR the licenser didn't care and didn't give lego permission to duo what they needed to sell sets. Didn't a lot of people say most Hobbit toys haven't been available or what people wanted. Maybe it isn't lego's fault completely.

I am quite impressed. I like most of the details very much. I think I may be one of the few that doesn't think the rounded tower fits in, mostly because of how vastly different the rock work is. But I love the entrance. I love the sloped areas at the top near the crenelations (sp?) Definite inspiration for my future castle build, if I ever finish it.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I don't love them all, but I'll buy them all. I don't know how many times I see a random accessory on bricklink and look to see where it came from and it was from CMF. Might as well buy them all to prevent wanting something later. But I'd want about half of I chose only the figures I truly wanted. It looks like some nice new molds and recolors.- 1,109 replies

The confusion was it was a UK website, not a US website, so shipping alone would kill us over here. I haven't seen anything that cheap over here in the States, so that's why I asked...

It is my understanding that the lego store doesn't carry them. I have seen them at Wal-Mart, rarely. Also target in limited sections. Typically it seems tru had them, but I never make it up there. And even then, they don't have all of them.

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm sure each license is different. So maybe Marvel just hasn't come up with something they want as an exclusive. What is their next big project? Avengers 2, right? Meaning, I'd say next year makes more sense for an exclusive than this year. I doubt they planned on just putting a random set out there that won't tie in with anything going on right now?? -
Kids always seem to ruin LEGO for everyone. (This sounds facetious, but I can be quite serious ). I have only ever filled one cup at a time. I just never justified more than that. The last time I went into a LEGO store, I ended up emptying my cup I had half full because I couldn't find enough quantity to make it worthwhile. I just wasn't feeling LEGO that day. With that said, the top comment on this page said the PAB wall sucked, yet you still bought that many cups!!! haha

I'm not sure what you mean by Americans are getting those units for that cheap considering that is a UK website?? But that drawer does look awesome. Very useful for smaller pieces in larger quantities.

^To add, I have done a handful of smaller printed tiles. All have come back sparkling white again with no change to the printing (as far as I can tell). I understand being iffy on prints, but I threw caution to the wind and it seemed to work okay. But that's just my experience.

I am sure my account is flagged. I didn't think I requested that many pieces, but maybe requesting TWO pieces from CUUSOO/Ideas sets helped push it along. I don't know. I don't think requesting ONE printed panel should be enough to warrant that, but maybe something else popped up on their system. I fully understand a company tracking these things. I know there are people out there that want to abuse the system. I am not one of them, so it is just more frustrating. If I ever have free time from work I'll have to make a phone call and see what can be resolved. Edit: And I guess technically they didn't ask me to fax a receipt. They wanted me to email them one. I don't have access to a scanner so I asked for a fax number and that was when they quit responding to me. I did mention to them they were gifts, but I did end up getting ahold of the DeLorean receipt, but they never responded to emails asking for a fax number to send it to. It is now beyond their 2 week window or whatever they deal with, so I'm sure I'll have start all over again.

I have only recently done this, so I can't attest for long term strength. But since a lot of my new bricks break just by attaching to other bricks, I'm not too worried about it. That way they can all match and crumble together...

I switched mine to sand blue too. But I used the Sand blue from the Pet Shop. I only needed to make a small order to finish it. I was switching Pet Shop to sand green since I had enough of the sand green pieces from other builds/orders (including the groove brick from Diagon Alley). So it works out for me. Plus it stands out among a sea of sand green grocers. AND the sand blue grocer is one of the most beautiful buildings I've ever seen... I actually like the sand green version less and less.

BrickWarriors July 2014 - New Wizard Items
TheLegoDr replied to Thrash's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Nice new products. The hat is an interesting change. I really like the wand. That'd go great with Harry Potter figures. I'll have to look for other colors. -
^Maybe we'll get another Bilbo with that outfit and the Mithril?? You know they like to give us multiple Jack Sparrows, er, Harry Potter, I mean Bilbos....

LEGO as an investment: LOTR and Hobbit themes
TheLegoDr replied to Trunkbass's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
As stated, that's the problem (or solution). Everyone and their dog is getting into reselling because of a few sets selling really well in the aftermarket. Not every set will garner $1000 above MSRP after it is retired. That is quite rare. Getting double is a good mindset, and a probable one. But with that said, I don't have the budget to buy extras to sell later on. I buy what I need now and enjoy it. It's great there is an aftermarket (even if the prices can be ridiculous) for the sets people missed out on. Since LEGO keeps getting more popular every year, I don't see reselling slowing down. But I also don't see the ROI changing either. It isn't a get rich quick scheme. -
[MOC] Rapunzel's Tower (ie....BIG TOWER!)
TheLegoDr replied to mattman's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
One word brilliant! Even if it didn't grow taller, the first picture showcases a very impressive scaled MOC. My daughter would die for this (not really). But Rapunzel is her favorite. I've been meaning to do something like this. I doubt it will pale in comparison to yours, but I can at least look to this for inspiration. Now, time to find all of my light bley hinge bricks. -
Nicely done. The size looks impressive. It seems like there are a lot of little details in there. The only thing I would change is the depth of the water by where they are standing. Maybe make that lower (as in the rest of the cave a little higher?) Or add slightly different water effects. I'm sure it isn't that clean down there. Keep up the good work. I love seeing Bat caves, even though one would think they all look the same (they really don't!)

That's cool that Bard may just be a preview figure. It'd make sense to assume that since it doesn't say exclusive on the package and they never said he was exclusive directly. You'd think we would get him in a set.

I am in the states yes. I've had many problems with them. Which is odd because I seem to be one of the few. I have had my share of positive experiences, but lately it is always negative. During this same time I placed a bricks and pieces order, which I never got an email saying it was received either. So I can understand a company not wanting to send something for free, but when a customer is trying to place an order with you and give you money, you'd think said company would like this. I realize the system might be buggy, but the email system is also buggy?? That seems odd that every one of my responses would get lost in the cyberspace.
