I am in the same boat. They quit responding to my emails. I requested the correct spelling of the DeLorean Time Machine panel and a Ghostbusters instruction manual since it was falling apart. All over the internet everyone claims ask customer service, they will take care of it. Well, they quit responding to me. They asked for me to fax receipts of the sets to prove I own them, even though I don't have receipts as they were gifts from my parents. Once I told them this, they quit answering my email. I didn't try calling regarding this specific issue since I rarely have time to do so during their available hours. But other times I have called they try to hurry me off of the phone. Either my account is flagged or they are a bunch of a******s.

LEGO as an investment: LOTR and Hobbit themes
TheLegoDr replied to Trunkbass's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Orc Forge seems to do well in the aftermarket too. But that was a store exclusive, so I think not as many people picked it up. Plus I don't recall it being available for as long as some of the other sets. Buy low, sell high. Doesn't always work out that way if sales aren't found. But buying at MSRP and selling above MSRP still works. It just won't be as high of a return. I don't claim to be a reseller. I do have a few unopened sets that I'd be willing to part with, but if not I could open and enjoy. They are the type of set that if the value is really high, it will cause me to sell it instead of keep it. -
One would expect the Western theme to return. The Lone Ranger movie was actually decent, although a tad long. The sets were pretty neat, although not 100% accurate to the movie. I just don't think Western themes are as eye grabbing as they used to be. I don't know of any kids that want to grow up to be a cowboy and I live in Nebraska, a.k.a. the beef state... But I could be wrong. With all of that said, if done appropriately I will buy them. I bought the whole line of LR.

^I think on average they go for $1-2 each x 56 I think. Plus shipping of course.

The house with the red door in Braavos
TheLegoDr replied to Wat Tambor's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I love the show. I have yet to read the book (that comes next). I like the overall look of the house. The roof is neat. Keep up the great work. I plan to do some game of thrones MOCs sometime. -
I actually like the jet. This is one of the few sets where o like the whole set. 3 figures that I don't have, that I'd actually want.

Definitely a must buy! Best set revealed so far
-
This further proves why I buy these sets for the figures only. They all look great. Smaug will be my first Dragon. But I don't want to spend that much on the set and you know Smaug will go for a fortune alone.

I realize people think a Batman variant is a great exclusive. But not if the only figures you care about are Batman related! I haven't read that story, but he looks amazing. I'll have to see how prices end up. That is really the only con exclusive I will pay attention to.

Good job on this. Very different than another tumbler. Iloved that movie as a kid. I would try my hand at this, but I doubt think I could do justice as well as you.

Batman is the only super hero figures I care about, so that is upsetting. I know it will still command some high prices. I haven't read that story, but I want it because of how crazy it is and because it is Batman.

Very well done. I'm glad to see another creation of the BP. I've been wanting to do this myself, but I can't afford extra black bottom hull pieces. They are ridiculous on bricklink right now. But this is definitely something for me to look at for inspiration if I ever get around to it. Thanks for sharing.

As long as we get some '66 love that I can get ahold of, I will be okay with it. Only exclusive '66 stuff isn't my cup of tea.

I'm torn on the exclusive figure topic. It makes sense to have some rarer/exclusive things in existence, just to keep the spirit of collecting alive. But having multiple figures at unattainable prices can be absurd. I am going to make the argument fully knowing it isn't the same due to smaller production batches of Con figures. But LEGO does giveaway promotions all of the time on S@H, and not everyone gets those figures. Think about it. You have to spend $75 to get a "free" figure. How is that different than spending $75 on an exclusive figure? I realize you get LEGO sets AND the figure at that price. But it's the same concept in my eyes. I wanted a Darth Revan figure, but money was tight so I didn't pick one up. Now I'd have to spend upwards of $30 probably to pick him up. I realize $30 is better than $300+, but my mind shows a greater comparison to them than I've seen mentioned on here.

Bootleg Super Heroes minifigs - worth it or not?
TheLegoDr replied to KingPixels's topic in Community
Good idea using the shirtless torso for Wolverine, although I picture him more hairy... Those figures look decent. I don't think I'd need any of them, but they do offer some variety in heads/torsos. -
Well, some sets are pretty neat and might be worthwhile to have more than one to expand. I think it would solely depend on cost without figures.
-
A lot of detail on a large scale! Well done. I really like the simplicity of the creek and the bridge. I should try to incorporate that into my scene. I really just need to sit down and figure out my layout so I can start ordering pieces. But I can tell you, it won't look anything like this

!Lego 10190 Market Street New Build & Review!
TheLegoDr replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks for the review. I have no interest in this set. I just don't think it fits with the rest of the theme. And I'm sure that is solely based on that it wasn't officially created by LEGO. Plus it being under the Factory title, I don't count it . I think medium blue was a good color choice at the time, but since then I've fallen in love with the sand blue color and they don't look good near each other. I really like the market area, but it is blah internally. I really only like the owl and rope decoration area. I still don't understand what is going on with the sidewalk there. In my eyes, there are too many windows on the front. And they all look the same. Maybe if there was some variety it might look better. There is just something I can't put my finger on, but I'm glad you are happy about owning it. -
You could create a flickr account to share future builds too. Almost everyone uses flickr, plus there are a lot of other great photos on there you can favorite/comment on. I have a lot of "inspiration" on flickr. The frontpage has a tutorial on how to post pictures here.

I can agree with that. I don't love all of the exclusive figures. And I know I'll never have a complete collection. But the "gotta have them all" bug died a long time ago thanks to LEGO.

^The LEGO movie was a huge hit, but what could it bring in terms of an Advent calendar? Usually you'd need at least one or two fairly rare/exclusive figures to help justify the cost. Who would they include? Another Emmet, Wyldstyle, Bad Cop? I'm not seeing anything special here that couldn't be purchased in the sets. What micro builds could they include? A small version of some of the official sets, like Benny's SSS? I don't see it being viable, but I'm not the CEO of LEGO, so don't listen to me.

US Transport Security Agency/Travelling with LEGO
TheLegoDr replied to JSN's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've taken PAB cups on carry-on. I really think they don't look at most things. People are "randomly" searched, so I assume they "randomly" look at the stuff on the screen. The sad thing is, if they did open a MISB expensive/rare set, nothing would happen. You could file a complaint and you wouldn't be reimbursed all in the name of "security." Those LEGO bricks are really dangerous...- 10 replies

They released the dark knight Batman as a con exclusive a few years ago. That's why we received the dark bley recolor in the other day knight set. I doubt they will release another dark knight Batman. And I don't see a batpod being released as a UCS either. I think the tumbler is more iconic and after this Nolan-verse might be finished in lego.

Printed also adds a lot of cost to a set and this set is already expensive. Just look at the Maersk ship they came out with. Expensive with a lot of detail and a ton of stickers. Anyway, I'd prefer printing if possible, but unlikely in most cool sets. The designers also need to keep within a budget and need certain elements in certain colors and that may take up too many slots of freedom they have. As far as the official version, it looks great. I will definitely pick it up eventually. There are too many other advanced sets I want to get before they retire and I'd assume this would be around a little while longer considering it is coming out this year. With that said, I may have to quit buying Star Wars sets to make up for the want in other areas. That Joker is great. I am surprised they didn't use the longer touseled hairpiece instead. Although this one is better than the other one they've been using, at least for this Joker. I am surprised they did the facial scars. And the Batman variant looks spot-on to the Begins suit. Now we just need a TDKR Catwoman and I'll be happy. (I'll gladly take Lucius Fox, Alfred, Ras, Scarecrow from the movies also).

Looks good. I have not thought of doing that. Although I never understood mixing blacktron I and II. Something about the yellow and the lime. Keep up the good work. I should try this for the future generation logo.
