Do Sets without Minifigures Really Sell Well?
TheLegoDr replied to Deathleech's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I have attempted this with a few sets (but I don't think they were wanted sets: Gungan sub from SW), and it was barely enough to make it worthwhile since the Amidala figure is what sells that set. But other sets with useful pieces might work okay. I've seen Uruk Hai Army sell really well without the figures (usually more than what it MSRPd for with the figures!), but like I said, that set would have useful pieces for that purpose. It all depends on the exact figures you want and how the rest have been on the market. As it turned out, Lone Ranger had some good sets, but a lot of duplicated figures, so they didn't sell so well it seemed. As far as Hobbit/LOTR, it's tough to say. Like you, I have noticed usually the figures I want, it ends up being cheaper just to buy the set itself to get ALL of the figures, plus the bricks. I usually try not to sell too many bricks unless I have multiples of the set. I always think, "you never know when you'll need that one piece."- 14 replies

I hadn't even thought of those shields being used for angels. I should have bought more Egyptians! Nice MOC. Looks really neat.

Very interesting build. I've been pleasantly surprised with the Creator sets. When I first saw this one, I knew I wanted it, but I agree on the price. I still haven't made the purchase, but I think I may swing by Target today to pick it up when I do my other errands. The mech is the winner, but after seeing it here, I may want to make some mods...granted, I'm sure the set won't last too long overall, but I like how it looks to begin with. That gets my foot in the door. Thanks for the review.

Very neat build. I like how it all comes together. I am curious on some of those torsos. I haven't seen some of them before. Most notably the person with the brown epaulets talking to the driver in the small hover vehicle and the manta ray figure just to the right of them with the rebreather helmet. Congrats on the contest.

Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Since I've been away from Eurobricks for a while, I had some catching up to do. It looks like from May 9th or so when Brickshow was posting their Ant-Man review people were clamoring for where they received it. Europe is a fine (albeit vague) answer considering they likely received it from the LEGO group themselves. They have a special program that supports reviewers so they can get the sets out there early. No one can buy them, but they get them for free to review. I have friends in the LUG that receives huge sets all of the time to review. I think they received Sea Cow and Slave I when they came out. So likely Brickshow is the same way. As far as Ant-Man itself, the set looks neat. The movie might be interesting. It looks more entertaining than GOTG from the trailers. GOTG was hit/miss with me, and like them, Ant-Man is unknown to me, so I'll wait to rent it to see what I think. But likely I'll pick up the set anyway for new figures. -
Category A: #2 #4 #7 Category B: #1 #2 #4 Category C: #5 #6 #7 Good luck to all. I wanted to enter, but after seeing a lot of the entries I don't think I would have been picked at all to get voted on.

Very similar to an idea I had to flesh out the Kingdoms lion knight's castle. I like the effect the taller walls give. I really like the open back feature for playing. I was originally building one for my daughter, but then scrapped it because I wanted to build Helm's Deep.. I have since scrapped that idea also, so I think I will go back to building this Lion knight's castle for my daughter once again, thanks to seeing this! You are inspiring. Keep up the good work.

While more humans can be welcome, I also would like other races. Granted I missed out on the first Fantasy Era and I don't have a ton of interest in most of those figures, if this newer version becomes Fantasy Era also, I'd hope for some nice mixes of characters, human, elf, dwarf, orc, etc. I am surprised LEGO doesn't do more actual castles in other colors than light bley. They do towers for the bad guys in black, but never a full on castle like they did back in the day. It doesn't even have to be a bad guy castle, although I'm sure they like to keep it clear for kids who the good and bad are.

So only 25 total entries, as in not too many people will be able to enter?

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I don't know about a museum but they will definitely make their way to a modular. They look like a 1x2x4 fence piece like the new elves fences, only different design. I guess I don't understand all the hub-bub about that museum from ideas. There wasn't anything special about it. -
Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Makes sense since the first Avengers had poster -
It looks like the wheels will be the priciest bit in bricklinking that Batpod. Otherwise, it looks pretty solid. I still don't own the Tumbler, but whenever I do pick it up this would look good next to it... That means, next we need The Bat in scale with the Tumbler...right? right?

And builds like this are the reason why I don't enter contests... I like the shaping overall. I have no idea on how to build spaceships and the use of rigging is impressive. Good luck.

Why is the grey baseplate so expensive?
TheLegoDr replied to Endriu's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Like stated, most MOCers will cover the baseplate in random tiles and plates to build up the environment and then build whatever MOC on top of that. I originally thought I'd never use 48x48 but anymore that is almost all I use... -
Very creative!

Army building is impressive, mostly because of the money involved. I'd love to dive into it, but I can't justify that many figures of similar looking people when there are so many bricks I need for projects... With that said, that Orc army is impressive. I only have what came in sets, so 20 maybe? I would like to catch up to that. And the Dwarf army will be neat to see since we don't see too many of them around here. Those dark green torsos will be expensive to army build (I would think).

[G:K19 U vs. HC] A Ride into Ras-el-akhen
TheLegoDr replied to Garmadon's topic in Guilds of Historica
Very creative sloping technique on the castle wall and the groundwork. My main complaint is the portcullis wouldn't exist in that regard. It would have no vertical space to go up to open (fyi). But I really like the rest of it! Keep up the good work. -
Lovely review and set. I can't wait to buy one. I just hope it doesn't go away before the end of the year. I'm looking at Christmas for a present. But I like the shaping overall. I think LEGO did a good job with the limitations they have. The figures of course are stunning. I think I may have preferred different green hair for Joker, but nice that we get an old piece with a new color either way.

^Those are pretty neat. I don't own any GS sets, so I hadn't considered those torsos before. The helmets do work really well. Interesting name also. Keep up the good work. I may have to consider customizing some people to make a group of enemies.

[MOC] Alternate from 6085 Black Monarch Castle
TheLegoDr replied to recifaliste's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nicely done. I was just looking at the instructions last night and was thinking I wouldn't mind building that alternate it showed...I also considered adding it to the official set to make it larger. I love that era of castle. Keep up the good work. -
Marvel Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
Hopefully you can get it. They usually don't do anything with licensed pieces. If you don't have to jump through some hoops I'm going to be upset since they made me prove purchase via receipt (which was hard to track down since it was a gift)... -
Creative characters. I was considering doing something with the ostrich head, but I couldn't work it. Capt Ahab is my favorite. That armor and head go well together.
-
Definitely an impressive build. I may have to just look at this and reverse engineer it to have my own since LEGO won't release anything else. It's a shame for sure since LOTR was the best theme (IMO).
-
I've been wanting to build up my Lion/Crusader army. I have 22 currently from the old sets. I've been considering buying more. I obviously won't be able to compete with some of you people. There are too many other LEGO related figures/sets I want to be able to afford army building. Very impressive armies though. Keep up the good work.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Some LEGO designers came out and said there wouldn't be a revival of any retired sets. They may tweak some and re-release them (like Star Wars), but no two sets will ever be the same. There is too much to go into it, including retired molds, or colors that aren't used anymore. Also, LEGO did have a Legends line in the early 2000s that failed miserably I guess, so I doubt they will ever entertain that idea again.
