Nocturnus Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to I Scream Clone's topic in Guilds of Historica
Great little builds. The shields are a nice touch. I don't think I have enough undead/dead/monsters to build a good Nocturnus army. -
It actually looks as if that orc is being pummeled by water. Brilliant work there. And I love how Treebeard turned out. I hope an official version will look as good as that! Good luck!

That looks great! Good luck in the contest. I do like the scale since traditionally cyclops are much bigger than a standard human, so this works really well. I haven't seen the other builds, but I'd say this would have my vote if I were voting! Great rock formation too.

That is awesome. Instantly recognizable and of a great size! I like how you did the wings, which isn't the traditional way, but it works wonders. Good luck!

Overall a good attempt. The sets are very recognizable. I think I like Ollivander's the best here. Keep up the good work.

You've outdone yourself with this one. I really like it. It has great appeal in a mini-scale. I think it resembles the set more than your Diagon Alley mini versions. I have been on a mini building kick lately and I love HP, but I didn't even think about doing these in mini form. I will have to try my hand at it also. Keep up the good work!

I'm definitely getting the fox. Hands down. If I buy nothing else, the fox will win out.

Originally I preferred that exclusive, but the more I see the newer figures, I also much prefer them. This is beautiful. I love the effects. If only the real figure had a glow in the dark piece or something. Or maybe TLG should come out with a minifigure Iron Man LED flashlight, but allow effects like this. Keep up the great work. I love that line-up.

Those look great! I love the rotating turret on the camo tumbler. I think the tan/dark tan work together quite well for camo, even if some brown would work in places. Keep up the great work. I really need to get to work on a better looking tumbler (like these). Thanks for sharing!

That tree is awesome. I love the type of work used to do that. I hadn't considered that, but I need to start thinking like that to help with my trees. It is very fitting for the scene. I like the use of the Jekyll torso also. Keep up the great work!

The skiff was great for the figures present and the price point! I love me some cheap sets. But I'd choose the TIE Fighter only because that is basically the first SW set I've purchased and it was a good way to start with the theme. Looking back at previous versions, 2012 definitely takes the cake with the TIE and the X-wing.

Neat little scene. Poor guy, he doesn't have a chance. I wonder if he really did it! I think luck is relative. I know some people who want 30 of those cops, and I know others who want none. I personally want one or two and I'm not a city person by trade.

Thanks for the review. The set itself looks pretty boring, but a few good pieces thrown in. Maybe that's why it hasn't really been mentioned anywhere. I haven't seen it for sale (but I haven't seen the ice cream set either). The sandwiches are huge in Heartlake City. Kind of odd that everyone is so skinny there! Maybe that is the real diet secret.

kibosh - lucky! The cheapest they were here was above $50. I had no luck finding any clearance at any stores around here.

TrumpetKing67 - I actually really love the GE, unlike a lot of other people. Some say the upper floors are monotonous, which the builds are repetitive, but I think to get the design aesthetic that the set is going for, it has to be that. The end result is a beautiful department store. The tan and dark green combo work well together too. And you can add in whatever interior details you want since the modulars aren't always the best for interiors. I don't own the other two, so it's tough to say about them, but price-wise I'd go for GE first since that will be the first to disappear, even if it does take a while. october - The Joust is beautiful, but I've since talked myself out of it. I don't own any of the Fantasy sets (I was in my dark ages during that time). But I don't know how much I'd use them, especially since LOTR is out and I much prefer those types of orcs and whatnot. So for full display, that Joust is the way to go. If you don't have the space for the Fantasy, you'd basically buy them to sell them and hope you make a profit enough to buy the Joust in the end. Is that really what you want to do? It might work out in your favor though.

It seems the questions have been answered already. But I like the fixed price idea with bricklink. I typically don't ebay unless it is a buy it now anyway and only if it is cheaper than bricklink (which it rarely is). I typically go to the same sellers too just because I know what I'm getting myself into with them. But there are a lot of great sellers out there and some shady ones. Just make a good judgment on everything. And it doesn't hurt to look around for the best price. A slightly more expensive piece from one seller may end up being cheaper depending on other pieces in the order and shipping costs.

What if you had a machine that could make any LEGO piece, set, or mini
TheLegoDr replied to ToastyLlama's topic in Community
I guess I don't have a greedy mind because I didn't even think of making duplicates for resale. But that does make sense. I would end up making extra pieces for MOCs and extra figures for army building. Otherwise, I'd make a few sets here and there that I missed out on. But if you're going to make extra sets for resale, then the early Modulars here I come! -
Great job! I love the idea of alternate builds with the pieces used only in one set. And I think you did a great job at it here. I have the set disassembled currently for another MOC I did, but I didn't realize it had that many windows. Learn something new every day. Keep up the great work!

That's the reason I came across this too. Very fitting for many themes. First impressions don't always mean anything for the longterm. This castle theme isn't growing on me, yet I will probably buy more than expected (for the pieces, of course). I won't ever say it is the best theme ever though. Great little comic. Keep up the good work.

This is brilliant! I love how these turned out. Instantly recognizable if you've seen the movie or read about the movie designs. I definitely want to see the rest. Keep up the good work!

Neat build. I actually was planning on doing something similar with the inverted slopes and making that little part of the wall stand out to help break it up. But I wasn't going to build Minas Tirith, it was for another project. Now I can see it with my own eyes that it does look good. Keep up the good work. Now to finish the rest of the city.

Mitgardia Garden Challenge: Sir Gunman Lurikeen's Fountain
TheLegoDr replied to Gunman's topic in Guilds of Historica
That's really neat. I love the fountain and the parts involved. It actually looks like water flowing out, so kudos there. Overall the build looks really neat. Keep up the good work. -
Well, white faces on the dragon army changes a few things. I'll have to wait for closer pictures, but now I may want to pick up a few. Always good to add some variety.
