  1. Isn't it great that all you get is a unique code to log your find and see how many are out there. There will always be people who don't open it and thus won't use the code to log theirs, while others will have the code and not log it just because they don't feel like it. There really isn't an incentive to own one other than the fact it is 1 of 5,000. I bought one of the comic-con figures, which is neat, but I don't think I feel any different after having owned one. I doubt I would feel any different if I find a golden one (although I do secretly want one).
  2. I agree. I don't think there is a set scale, but the designers probably have a set number of pieces to use so they create their own scale that could best represent the true design in the smallest scale possible. Also, I'm sure they take into account the individual pieces that can be used and see which one would work for that scale. I would get a basic idea in my head and then try to match that with what pieces are available that could work. Some pieces are used that you wouldn't normally think would, and others end up looking out of place due to the proposed scale.
  3. I would say the Roman is probably my favorite figure from series 6 and a tie with the Revolutionary soldier in this series. Originally I wasn't as wowed by him, but the more I see, the more I like. But no not everyone likes him and that's the beauty of the CMF. I don't care for the paintballer and parachuter, but I bet they will be popular with people.
  4. Thanks for the review. My first architecture set was the Brandenburg Gate thanks to the discount on Amazon. I haven't built it yet. I do like how they incorporate such large structures into a small scale and this is no exception. I agree about sand red being perfect, that is too bad that it doesn't exist anymore. Tan doesn't seem to fit at all, but I guess with the Brandenburg Gate, Tower Bridge (full scale), Big Ben, and now this, they have an abundance of tan they want to use I guess. I will not be getting this mostly due to me not collecting the architecture line and my $130 will be spent on other sets I want.
  5. Thanks for posting. It seems no one is bidding on it yet, oddly enough. But that will be a good addition to the theme. I don't know how badly I want the MoS sets, but I will probably pick them up anyway.
  6. I will let the creator answer officially, but my understanding is: 2. It looks like you can have figures from previous series in your entry, as long as it is a prior series and not the series your category entry is. Example, if you are building a series 7 entry, then you can't have 7, 8, or 9 in the vignette, but you can have earlier figures. So I think you can use other figures from the previous series in the MOC, just not from that series. 3.From WhiteFang: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=80081entry1531319 and http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=80081entry1531323 So you can enter all three categories, but only once.
  7. I agree with a few others here. I think a lot of it is in what context can you make an African theme work. I'd love to see more animal molds, but if they are involving a tranq gun for any reason, people will be up in arms about hunting animals (even though that is exactly the opposite of what they may be doing in the sets). It really isn't a win-win situation for TLG mainly due to non-AFOL's limited knowledge on LEGO. Everyone says how expensive it is, but if they were one of us, they would realize how it isn't necessarily that expensive. People were up in arms about Friends too and that ended up being a win for TLG, so good deal there. But I'm not sure on how they'd make a theme work without "action" since children seem to need that to make a theme sell. Yes, DUPLO has a lot of great sets that aren't in System. They have multi-national figures with no worries of gender or race being an issue, yet in System it is a huge issue. I don't understand that. I guess toddlers are more accepting of those things than the target audience in System. But with that said, if done right and with no backlash, I'd love an African type theme.
  8. This is quite an undertaking, especially since you already own one. But still fun to follow anyway. I'm quite pleased with my 7965 Falcon as that is on display. I don't think I'll ever bite at an UCS version of anything. But still impressive to look at when finished. Thanks for the tips on bricklink, even though some "should" be common sense, but not everyone thinks ahead at times when building. I know I'm guilty of that as well. One thing I worry about for you, is the boxed MF. There are a lot more factors in affecting brick quality than just light and dust, so hopefully the humidity or temperature changes won't affect it for you.
  9. Impressive scale. I love the story that is being told with the build. My favorite parts are the stained glass window with the inverted cheese slopes, that is very clever. I may have to borrow that sometime if I ever find a reason to build a stained glass window. I love how it is sitting on a rock formation, it flows really well there. The angled pathway to the front doors is clever and works really well. The tiling on the floor is really neat since it is different than how people normally do tiled floors. The arches in the great hall makes it look grander. My least favorite is the mish-mash of colors used in the walls and roofing. The patterned roof is neat and I actually like how the red roof looks (and the black), but something feels amiss when they are both in the same build. And then also dark bley roofing thrown in. I'm not sure how accurate that is, I just am a fan of uniformity. That's probably why I don't MOC as much as I'd like. But either way, the build is great. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing!
  10. Thanks for bringing back this contest. I hadn't entered in the past, but I will definitely do it this year. And to have three separate categories to enter is even better. I'm liking the prizes too! Now I just need to figure out what to build...
  11. I scanned a wrapper at the local Target and it listed what aisle they were in (nothing in sight). And it said not in stock room. And none of the employees knew what I was talking about involving little LEGO figures that they sold. I guess that toy department really knows their stuff.... By the time they get them, the next series will be scheduled for release, although those won't be around here until another few months after that.
  12. I would assume the big army builders will be the same distribution as the last series. Although it makes me wonder which figures will be the hard to get (hopefully not the females again!). I realize not all little boys want tons of female figures, but I know most everyone else does want more, soooo TLG listen up. But I may try to find a full box and just buy it. That is, if I can find one... Now to find the golden figure, I will feel every packet every time I go into a store. Probably a waste of time.
  13. I only remember Gold City as the town and Fort Legoredo as the fort. And I do remember Dewey Cheatum vaguely now that I read it, but the other names would have been lost on me. But it's weird how LEGO does that. I recall seeing an older catalog that had the Black Falcons as "eagle crest" and the Black Seas Barracuda as some other ship name. Not sure why they wouldn't keep the name the same all over for continuity, but I guess maybe they thought people wouldn't go across the pond searching for names. Thanks for the info though. Interesting stuff.
  14. Well, if you look at the LOTR extended editions, having the movie itself in the extended version may be good, but all of the extra features and videos on the disc are still in standard DVD. So you could buy this and have the blu-ray version of the movie and rebuy the extended versions in regular dvd (when they are on sale) to get the best of both worlds if you really wanted. That's what I was going to do with LOTR since I bought the DVD extended editions 7 years ago or whenever they came out and will just now buy the movie only in blu-ray. Back on topic: This Bilbo is neat and everything, but might not be enough to sell the movie. Some people who were going to buy anyway will probably buy from Target then because of this, but there are quite a few that will wait and/or just pick up the figure in the aftermarket. I think dark blue would have looked better for the coat. That looks like the regular LEGO blue to me. Edit: I agree with Deathleech. Most people I know can't tell the difference, even though I'm always amazed at how much crisper blu-ray is. So no one else I know owns a blu-ray player. And with that said, I only buy movies that will benefit from the blu-ray treatment (which surprisingly is few and far between) and usually only if I can find it on a good clearance. Most of my blu-ray collection was purchased on black friday deals. I guess technically my 3 year old daughter has a bigger blu-ray collection than I do, since all of her cartoons look millions times better on blu-ray than standard definition.
  15. All I've read is that they will have an extended version at the end of the year to help push the next installment and in time for the holiday season. Seen here. http://screenrant.com/hobbit-extended-edition-dark-knight-box-set-release-date/
  16. Well, I'd love more Batman figures, but I don't know if they would do another Freeze so soon, granted they are releasing another Poison Ivy for whatever reason. But I mainly want Batgirl and then other Justice League figures, just for completion sake. As far as sets go, I would have no ideas. I'd think Marvel would have a large scale build also. As much as I'd love "the school for gifted youngsters" I don't know how they would do it in such a small scale. I guess another facade would do, but would that really do it justice? Because then people would start wanting the blackbird in addition (eventually), but I guess that could be another set all on its own.
  17. That is a neat figure, but I will have to pass. I'd much rather have the extended edition movie (if it comes out). I may have to pay the extra fee to get this figure on bricklink, which will probably cost as much as the movie costs because the aftermarket is ridiculous.
  18. That is really awesome. It turned out spot-on. I love the layered effect to give it depth and the clear trans and black to give that look instead of full-on white. I doubt I will do one, but I'd love to try my hand eventually. Keep up the great work! You pulled it off nicely.
  19. I actually love this figure. No one else seems to like it. But I will not spend outrageous amounts of money on one. I think the printing is spot on. I do like the gold effect, but I actually wish he was a regular figure also. We'll see how much they end up going for on the aftermarket.
  20. Well, I love this series. I will say this is my favorite series of the collection to date! I won't be buying all of them since I have no use for multiple of them, but the figures I do want, I will be getting multiples of. The male and female warriors, Roman, Colonial soldier..I wonder how many is too many? I hope little kids aren't wanting these because I will buy as many as I can. I actually really like that golden figure. I won't go out of my way to get one (mostly due to high prices), but if I come across one I will end up keeping it for sure. I originally thought I would sell it, but I like how it turned out. I guess I'm the only one. And I'm glad you can feel for it (although I doubt it will be available around me). He looks like one of those street scene performers that paint themselves up. I mostly imagine silver, but I like how he turned out quite a bit. I'd rather have him as a part of the series than some of the other figures, oh well. Full thoughts: Librarian: Wonderful figure. I love the printed book and the coffee mug. The printing on the figure is great. And is that Ginny Weasley hair in another color? Grandpa: A great addition, although I don't mind using the stud on top as bald. But this smooths it out quite nicely. His old timey newspaper is cute too. Tomahawk warrior: Definitely multiples. I'd love some Mohican-esque MOCs. Although I should only get one so he can be the last.. Warrior female: I love the shield. I may get multiples just for that since it goes for so much in the aftermarket. The spear is welcome to my arsenal. They did a great job with the printing. Roman: Definitely getting multiples. The cape, plume, gladius, and printing are all stellar. I don't know much about Roman history, but I do know they look awesome in LEGO form. Captain: I love the seagull and the black binoculars. The hat is neat. It won't fit in with most of my themes I MOC in, but it still looks good. Baseball player: I don't have the other one, but I'd rather have a glove than a bat anyway. I may pick this guy up for the accessory. Medusa: WAY better than what was first imagined with the available pieces. The snake tail makes sense. The face print is exactly what I'd expect, although I'd think she should be prettier. The snake wig works perfectly. Clown: Yes, a million times over. I can't wait to act out Seinfeld now. Bumblebee girl: I will definitely pick up a few of her. I love the wings and helmet. Colonial Soldier: I've been waiting for this ever since I got back into LEGO. Everyone wants the wigs and that is awesome to have, but I mostly love the torso printing. I needed a better bluecoat for so long. Diva: I'm torn. I may pick one up for the dog and cell phone accessory, but the figure herself is a throw-away. The golden man: I love this figure. So since everyone else hates him, if they find one, they should just mail him to me for MSRP.. I'll gladly take this guy if I can find him.
  21. Great backstory and great builds to link the story to the character. Welcome aboard! I do like the builds, especially the first one since I am a sucker for good landscaping/waterfalls. I do like the story. I would like to come up with something creative for my figure, but I just haven't come up with it yet. I finally came up with a name I think, so that's a start. I do hope GoH will still be around since some people (me included) are just now getting involved. Welcome again. I can't wait to see/read more from you.
  22. Is it this set? Overall great build. The more I watch LOTR and look at LEGO LOTR, the more I appreciate this build. Keep up the great work!
  23. I kind of agree with some of the above statements. I would imagine an exclusive figure in an expensive set doesn't necessarily make that figure rare, since people do technically have access to get that figure, no matter where you are. But the comic con figures are extremely limited in production and release. If it wasn't for eBay, most people would never even get the chance to own one. So I would definitely call those rare. I guess I typically never use the word rare though. In the end, I group figures as exclusive or not exclusive. That is kind of a catch all term since technically the TMNT figures (for the most part) are exclusive to their respective sets, even if they are cheap. And then Dengar is also exclusive even though he is in ONE expensive set.
  24. CBMM1 - That's why I don't shop there, even with exclusives. But if I were you, I would have just walked out instead of buying what I had. In the end, they still win because they received your money. On another note, even if they have the tags for them, it doesn't mean they have them or will sell them. Maybe they are just making sure they have a placeholder for them when they are officially released? That is really early for them to release them compared to the street date of March 7th I heard? Either way, I'd wait until other retailers get them before spending extra money at TRU.
  25. That is terrible news. Hopefully can find the figures and get your MOC rebuilt to your liking. I would try to have someone talk to the parents and see what happened. Most likely no one will fess up, but it doesn't hurt to try. Some people just don't have any respect for other people's belongings. My daughter breaks my MOCs all the time, but I can resolve that matter. When it involves someone else's kids, it can get trickier.
