  1. I have over 90,000 bricks according to brickset.com, but those are just from sets. That doesn't take into account all of the loose bricks I've purchased. But I like to keep them in a giant tote so I can go swimming like Scrooge McDuck...
  2. Well, kingdoms had the escape from Dragon's prison set and the prison carriage escape set, both had decent army building numbers of figures. And especially since both were on 50% clearance around here non-stop.
  3. I just received a few of the sets from my mom. I was originally underwhelmed with the sets/figures and thought they looked hideous at first. But after looking at the figures, I can see they did a great job with them, even Splinter. They are great memories of my childhood looking at them in LEGO form. The sets themselves will go into the sorting area for MOCs. But I'm loving the main figures that I remember from my childhood.
  4. As much hate as some of the sets have received, I'd say TLG has hit it out of the ballpark with this new Super Heroes theme. Although that is coming from a minifigure collector. I don't care for the playsets as they are. I typically just use the extra pieces in MOCs and display the figures, so short of giving me a figure I want with a pile of useful bricks, they give me these sets. Either way, I'm happy with it. But I could always use more villains/heroes in the Batman universe.
  5. I've tried talking to people at a LEGO store also, they didn't really respond. It's like "dude, you are here, you don't have to hide." Oh well, I think a lot of people are closeted for a reason. They are embarrassed for some reason. Everyone knows I'm a LEGO maniac, but it does get overwhelming for them when the only thing I have to talk about is LEGO related materials. Maybe that's why I don't talk that much to anyone.
  6. I love those builds. They fit right in with the story. I like how the builds are seamless and complement the story. My only negative is some of the words used, the worst offender is the use of the word "bro." I just don't see that being used here. Perhaps using the term brother instead. Otherwise, great story! I definitely would like to continue their adventure.
  7. I received one yesterday too. I was surprised to get one so I assumed they were sending it out to all VIP members, but that isn't the truth. I spent over $1000 last year through S@H and the retail store, but the last purchase I made was in October and I didn't get an invite to the Black Friday deal either. So I don't know how they determine their criteria. I didn't spend any money since October at LEGO, so I don't think they necessarily take that into consideration. Edit: I forgot to mention, my 3 year old ended up wanting it and playing with it. (I just want to make people cringe). But eBay is selling for about $25-30 if anyone is interested in purchasing one for whatever reason.
  8. I was just thinking about this earlier. I'd like to see the 1x1 modified brick with 4 studs remolded to with only 2 studs next to each other. So it'd be a mix between the two current molds, one with 2 on opposite sides and the 4 studded one all the way around, only convert it to 2 studs on the two touching sides. It'd work great for corners of buildings or mini builds.
  9. A lot of these apply to me as well... You know you're a fan of LEGO.. ..When the only websites you look at online are LEGO-related. ..When you have a minifigure of yourself and family (one in Licensed skin tone and one in yellow skin tone). ..When you can notice when something is askew with your pieces/figures storage. ..When you routinely check the floors to make sure there are no loose pieces before you clean, even if you haven't built in that room before. ..When you find random LEGO pieces in your pants pocket and you forgot when you put it in there. ..When you're the only grown up amongst a sea of kids looking at the CMFs. ..When you look at buildings and can picture which pieces to use in your head instead of focusing on the road. ..When you see the world in LEGO bricks.
  10. As much as I love the Fierce Flyer, I think your eagle takes the cake for life-likeness. It is a great brick-built creature. Good work there. As for the scene, brilliant! I saw this movie months ago, but I can clearly see what you were doing with this and it is very fitting. The tree tipping over is perfect. Great job capturing the scene. Keep up the good work. I'd love to see more.
  11. Good build. I like it overall. I love brick-built doors, so that is a from me. The roof has a nice texture, although it is a lot of red-brown. Granted, those colors would be abundant at that time. Tell him to keep up the good MOCs.
  12. I also thought I saw their outfits were dustier in the Mine set than the standard issue? So at least one variation of the torso/face and stuff. That is nice, although not super noticeable. Unless I am mistaken. I'm only going off of memory here.
  13. Those are neat builds. I've been getting more and more into steampunk LEGO lately, so this is right up my current alley. I like how you designed the planes. The world would be a lot different in a steampunk era. Keep up the good work!
  14. Like everyone else, I am impressed by this build. Not only is the grand scale something to amaze at, but then you add in all of the details. Simply brilliant design and use of pieces. Nothing looks too innovative in design, but that isn't to say it isn't creative and beautiful when compiled together. I love building Modulars, but I can only dream to do something to this scale. And to add in the interior on top of it, I love it! In fact, my daughter would love the open back idea (like a dollhouse), so I may end up trying my hand at something similar for her. That'll be a fun play set for the kids or a grand display piece for us AFOLs. Keep up the good work. I will certainly check back to gaze in amazement. Thanks for sharing.
  15. PM sent regarding Quest Against Time
  16. Just going by eBay prices in the US, it seems the Mirkwood Elf is about $10 and the Elrond is going for $20, on average. Just to give you a heads up.
  17. Exactly, they were pricey to begin with, so finding them that cheaply would be amazing, but highly unlikely. I'd say $7 apiece sounds about right, unfortunately.
  18. I'll have to take a look when I get home. But if all of mine have it, I've never noticed it. I guess I'm not that particular. But I'll have to look at my older 90s armors and then the new LOTR armors to see if anything looks different. I'm sure it could be where the mold is. Maybe they had to replace something mid-production. It's like clear pane windows sometimes have this weird ovoid stress mark in one spot and others have it in the center of the pane. I'm sure it all has to do with the molding process.
  19. Upon closer inspection, the sets are even more beautiful than expected. I like how the crow/hat are removable so we can use them elsewhere. That was unexpected. The torsos overall are great. I love the printing and I love how most can be used in other themes or settings. I've been trying to build my modulars more early 1900s, so some of these torsos would be great.
  20. The sets are underwhelming for me (but that is coming from a lower tiered SW fan). SW is not my priority so maybe that's why the sets aren't blowing me away. However, the figures are brilliantly designed and printed. The problem is I will end up buying a lot of the sets just to get the figures only because they command such a high price-tag on the after-market it only makes sense to spend slightly more to get the whole set and support TLG directly than some seller on bricklink/eBay. With that said, Jango is quality. Dooku and new Yoda are exactly what I'd want to see. Padme may be the best looking figure from that set, but I won't be able to pick her up. The sail barge is disappointing and the figures look decent, but at that price-tag I will definitely wait. I'm sure they will have some good sales like Palace last year. I mostly would only want slave Leia anyway since I don't have the previous version. Edit: It looks like a reuse of Boromir's face from LOTR in the advent calendar.
  21. the sets look interesting for sure. I'm not dying to get any of them, but there are great looking figure for sure. i think LEGO is counting on people the figures the most since almost all of them are new prints or figures altogether. i will wait to pass better judgment when official pictures are posted.
  22. That is awesome. I love the dark detailing. The lava is a great touch and is very fitting. I would believe this to be real if it wasn't for the studs on top. Keep up the good work! That Phoenix is a great build.
  23. I think your mileage may vary on clearance. I saw some around here after Christmas and then a few stores around here (middle USA) were selling Helm's Deep at $99 as their normal price. Must have been hard to move at the official price. I saw Hobbit sets at clearance too around Christmas even though the wave just came out. So it really is random.
  24. I thought I read there was an embargo on pictures of LOTR until May or sometime around there?? I may have misunderstood because I'd love to see more official photos sooner than later. I think Middle Earth LEGO is my favorite theme these days.
  25. Looks great. Harry Potter is what got me back into LEGO in fall of 2010. So I love seeing MOCs of it. I have unfortunately not done as many as I had wanted to due to time and interest in other themes. I will agree, those swings are ingenius. But this does inspire me to get back on track and build scenes I want to see in LEGO form. Thanks for sharing. Keep up the good work.
