I just built Orthanc today. Very beautiful set. I highly recommend it. You don't understand how big it is until you build it. The Ent was bigger than expected too. I would say the 5 hour estimate was pretty accurate. I built it off and on throughout the day, but total 5 hours building seems legitimate.

That's cool. I don't have that many autographed memorabilia. I'd like to see them autograph the LEGO Lone Ranger poster. That'd be really neat.

Inside Kaliphlin Day 10- Amrakect Market
TheLegoDr replied to Erynlasgalen's topic in Guilds of Historica
Another great addition to the tour! The market seems very lifelike. I like the close proximity to everything. The flags are neat. The sand feels very realistic. I like the random chicken hanging out and the fenced in pigs. You definitely created a good scene here. Keep up the good work. -
Just to update the above post. My Orthanc did not come with one. So either they forgot, or you're extra lucky and received one. But hey, I'll take a second Orthanc for free . I also heard at Brickworld they were handing out that Chima set by the case. I know a few people who received 3 cases of them. I guess it is 6 per case. So either they intentionally produced too many to give out at events and to spread the word, or they are handing them out because they produced too many.

That was an interesting read. I don't recall them specifically talking about collectible minifigures for the 5 females we receive there in every series amounting to 15 a year. Yes, the numbers are not 50/50, but it is changing. Series One had 2 females, Two had 3, Three had 2, Four had 3, Five had 4, Six had 5, Seven had 5, Eight had 5, Team GB had 3 (1/3 of the total since they only did 9), Nine had 5, Ten had 5 also. So basically since 2010 when they first came out, the numbers have increased (almost double) consistently, so that is definitely a major change. And the numbers are hitting 1/3 total sets, so above the 25% SPARK was claiming is necessary. Plus, I know tons of AFOLs who love the Friends line. New colors, new accessories, useful pieces. It is selling well because fans of LEGO want to buy it, female and male.

I really like the entrance too. I don't like it for a courthouse per se, but I like the curved fencing and the steps/space from the sidewalk. I could see it for a restaurant or maybe another building. I like the idea of brickbuilt doors, but where are the handles? How can someone get into this courthouse? And maybe making the sidewalk the same as the rest of the modulars will help it blend a bit more. Everyone tries something fancy on the sidewalk (including the official sets), but I've rarely seen a sidewalk with so many fancy things. Good start. Keep up the good work.

You also have to consider when LEGO had that license. Their printing is far more remarkable and detailed now than it was then. Not that they couldn't do multiple colors on a torso obviously, but maybe the equipment they used had certain limitations.

It makes sense to reuse a LEGO piece since I would think LEGO would want to get more use out of that mold since they only have had it in 2 minifigures so far. If it will sell, might as well use it more! Plus, CUUSOO doesn't want to create new pieces, so using existing pieces is what they are all about.

They should bring back LEGO Indijana Jones
TheLegoDr replied to MrBrickson's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Like others have said, probably won't see any more sets unless they release another movie. However, even if they do release a new movie, LEGO may not acquire the rights to produce more themes. It will depend on how popular the last release was and how much hype the new movie will cause. It seems a lot of fans didn't exactly enjoy the last movie. I saw it in theater, but I don't remember much about it, but I loved the first three as a kid. I think a lot of fans are like that. So, they may not produce sets if there isn't market research showing people will buy the sets. More than likely I would still buy the sets since I missed out on the last release, but I don't know if it will happen. At least with Pirates, they will be releasing another movie for sure, so they will have sets for that. How could they not? -
Approaching the Elves of the Northwest Mountains
TheLegoDr replied to Str0ngbad's topic in Guilds of Historica
Great build. I like anything with elves, so it is really neat to see some more builds here. I like the story you are going with. Very interesting read. I can't wait to read more. As for the build, I like the arches and the cheese mosaic. I also happen to like tan and sand green together, in most settings. It doesn't look right here, I think mainly because of the contrast with the white snow. But to each their own. Good work! -
Guilds of Historica Character Location and Facts
TheLegoDr replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Since I haven't been very active (although I joined on the first day GoH was discussed), my character obviously hasn't been up to too much. Just living a life of leisure (as if that is possible with everything that has happened)... But since my original name was short notice and I didn't particularly care for it, it wouldn't matter if my guy didn't exist. I am trying to come up with some more builds and stories and a character name I can get behind. But once I'm caught up, I would certainly appreciate adding me to the list. -
Great build. It seems fitting for the scene. I also like the window slits. You've covered the foliage/ruin look pretty well here.
-
Nicely done. Very grand. I think for LEGO scale, this is perfect. For more realism, then taller is better.
-
That is amazing how the lighting can shift the coloring that much. I guess there is a reason they call it dark blue-ish gray after all....
-
The curtains really stand out with that color scheme. I'd almost say change the coloring of everything except for the curtains, but the build itself is brilliant. Keep up the good work.

Is there any MOC you regret taking apart?
TheLegoDr replied to Axle's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Surprisingly not. Even the MOCs I've loved, I've repurposed to other MOCs or I've rebuilt it to make them better. I think leaving them as they are is great, but at the same time it might be good to go over them again and see if the addition of a new piece or new color may help it out in the long run. Especially with some of my MOCs have been more aesthetic instead of structure or function, so not all of the pieces used were as ideal as they could have been. But then again, most of my MOCs get taken apart once pictures are taken. The only thing still together in my signature photos is the mini Black Knight castle. -
What Collectible MiniFig Is Your Favorite Army Builder?
TheLegoDr replied to Mr. Elijah Timms's topic in Special LEGO Themes
As much of an army builder I am, I didn't do it with a lot of figures... 1) Revolutionary Soldier 16 2) Roman Commander 16 3) Warrior Woman 8 (Then I have 7 each of Conquistador, Actor, and Roman Soldier) Part of me really regrets buying all of the Roman commanders since I don't really care about him ultimately. I definitely wanted multiples of the Revolutionary soldier though since I am a classic castle/pirates nostalgic fan.- 65 replies

The Extraordinary League of Justice
TheLegoDr replied to Hammerstein NWC's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Those are amazing. Gotham by Gaslight is a great idea. I have only seen some mild gameplay from it. Were any of these characters official for that game, or did you just get some inspiration from that time period? Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, and Flash are my favorites here. I almost want to make my own versions now, but I don't know how I could compete with yours. Good work!- 9 replies

So this is a tricky question. Which set brought me out of my dark ages compared to the first set that I bought... The Harry Potter line of fall 2010 got me out of my dark ages and I asked my mom for them for my birthday/Christmas that year. But technically the first set I bought myself was a second Hogwarts castle to modify the first one I received. But after that was Kingdoms Blacksmith Attack. That brought back my love of classic castle and I never looked back..

Next CUUSOO set: 21103 Back to the Future™ Time Machine
TheLegoDr replied to Blakstone's topic in LEGO Licensed
Everytime I talk with LEGO direct, they never release any information on upcoming sets. Obviously it will be released in the US, and I'm sure it won't be much later than the other release dates. Time will tell. The addition of the figures helps a lot. I don't love the car, but they hit the figures spot on, so I will more than likely stick to the original plan and pick one up. Edit: And to clarify for others who seem to think the set includes pieces for the other builds, the box package clearly states it has instructions to modify it to meet the 3 movies. It doesn't say it comes with the extra pieces. It will just tell you which pieces you will need. Makes sense to me. -
october I don't own Palace Cinema, but I do love the Haunted House. It has a lot of neat little details and not super repetitive, other than the window frames. The end build is worth it though. My daughter loves the playability inside with the hinged opening effect. I would highly recommend it.

Inside Kaliphlin Day 9 -- The Triumphal Arch of Petraea
TheLegoDr replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Brilliant! The brick brick road works really well. I hadn't considered doing something like that before. The build is very imposing and impressive. The colors work really well and add to the Kaliphlin style. I really love the conqueror and the magistrate statues on top. Very clever. -
Nice build overall. The SNOT walls work really well here. The tree is nice too. I need to add in more brick built birds for my trees I think.
-
My concern is the addition of the Ent in the Orthanc set, since it has a green viney beard..the box doesn't outright call him Treebeard, but it gives the impression that they were going for that. Like "here ya go, that should make them happy."

Great build. Very dilapidated for sure. Gives a great effect.
