That looks great. Too bad we will never get updated versions of any HP characters.

That is awesome. Makes a great display piece even better. I don't think I will be doing this since my daughter will love the interior for her friends dolls, but I can understand why people would want this done! Keep up the great work!

Avalonia Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in Guilds of Historica
Glad to hear everyone is safe. I think I am finished with my gate house. I also built some ground work on the other side of the drawbridge. I just need to work on some water now. Then hopefully pictures. I'm impressed with how active some people can be. I just can't swing the time. -
I agree, this doesn't come off as Kaliphlin at all. I do think an eastern Asian influence would be a neat idea though. Even with that said, this is one of the most beautiful vignettes I've seen. The boulders are used properly. The cherry blossoms are superb. I am going to need to borrow that idea for something. The bridge is fantastic. And I really like the water effect. The one thing I don't like is the blue water and clear waterfall, but then it transitions into green water at the bottom? Either way, amazing work!

Great story. I like the idea of the planned accident. The builds with well for the story. Keep up the great work. I need to get my butt in gear for some story telling.

I can definitely understand when you push too hard and that party crumbles due to the pressure. Doesn't happen add often, but some designs are more fragile to achieve the look than others. Another is needing a piece for a MOC, but Lego didn't release it in the right color yet! The piece I needed was to be in black even. I think they might have released it 6 years ago in one set and only one was on bricklink, So just added the frustration. In the long run, I came up with a different piece that will ultimately achieve the look I want. And on top of that I think I am going to end up changing that MOC anyway based on other reasons, so I guess there is a reason for everything. And then, of course the most frustrating thing of all..not having enough money for all of these great sets!

I would have said to the kid, "one day." And I would have bought the sets I wanted anyway. The last time I made a big purchase at the LEGO store, I bought the entire lone ranger line. I don't recall getting any weird looks though.

But then wouldn't everyone know Bruce Wayne is Batman if he shows up at Arkham as Bruce, but then all of a sudden Bruce is gone and Batman is there?

Best "Non Friends" Lego set or group of sets for girls?
TheLegoDr replied to Faefrost's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think it varies. I just found out my 13 year old niece is really into LEGO. We live in different cities so I don't see our disk to them too often. But she really likes the monster fighters and super heroes sets. Her 12 year old sister is really into friends. My 3 year old loves friends and super heroes and some of the CMF. I really think it varies. -
Next CUUSOO set: 21103 Back to the Future™ Time Machine

I hate to be that guy, but that other one from CUUSOO looks simply amazing. I'd buy that in a heartbeat. I wonder how TLG would change that one. -
Review Review: 10237 The Tower of Orthanc
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Again, great review. Very thorough. I just received mine today when I was home for lunch. My wife immediately said "that's so cool!" so I call that a win. I will probably try to build it this weekend, but I have GoH stuff to finish up also. And to Cammo - why not get both?- 138 replies

Next CUUSOO set: 21103 Back to the Future™ Time Machine

I didn't know they were donating it to the Michael J. Fox foundation. That is awesome. Good for them. Almost makes me want to buy one then. -
I've never heard of True Dimensions before. The models are okay on there, but I love how they gray out everything except for the step you are adding things in the instructions. Helps immensely! Maybe TLG should look into that to help with those tricky steps at times.

Good job! I like the yellow and the licensed skin tones, but since I'm used to seeing these people in the licensed skin tone, I would have to choose that as my favorite. But I think these do provide a good alternative in the yellow universe. Nice mods and nice Stark sign too!

Next CUUSOO set: 21103 Back to the Future™ Time Machine
TheLegoDr replied to Blakstone's topic in LEGO Licensed
I agree the more I look at it, the worse the hood looks. It was so smooth in the original CUUSOO set, which is very fitting for the design of the car. I guess the big thing here is just saying congratulations to the designer for their 1% commission. But it doesn't sound like a lot of people on here want to buy it. I guess we'll see how the numbers are after it has been out a while. Minecraft exploded, so we'll see what happens with this one. -
Was some of this in another language and then translated? Is Danmark the official name of the country? I thought it was Denmark. Also, July 5st? Getting by some of those typos it sounds like a great opportunity. I know nothing of graphic design, so this isn't for me. I don't know what it would be like living overseas since I'm so used to here.

Next CUUSOO set: 21103 Back to the Future™ Time Machine

I think I agree, very ugly. Not impressed at all. Granted, I didn't particularly care for the submitted model either. I think if I ever want to build it, then I will make my own MOC. I don't know if I can justify buying this. And I bet a lot of people did want figures to come with. It makes sense not to have any for a one-off set that has a limited release, but that would be a major selling point for sure. -
Inside Kaliphlin Day 7- Arkbri Falls
TheLegoDr replied to Erynlasgalen's topic in Guilds of Historica
I think I like the terrain/mountain side more than the water fall. Something seems a bit off about it. Maybe it needs more color than clear and white? I think it blends in together too much maybe. But then again I've never built a waterfall before. Otherwise great build. Like I said I love the tan rock work. -
Netflix just added a bunch of Lego shows
TheLegoDr replied to Faefrost's topic in Culture & Multimedia
That is unfortunate. I had no idea they were even on there, only to find out now that they aren't on there. Obviously it doesn't matter in the long run, but it would have been neat to show the Friends one to my daughter since she likes that show. -
To add, if anyone cares: They said they didn't know when they will be discontinued, but they will put them on the Retiring soon page. So I guess you can expect every set to be on the verge of end of life-ing to be put on there. So if it isn't on there now, I wouldn't be concerned. I guess I'll wait and see what happens with Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium, since those are supposedly going away this year too, but aren't on the Retiring Soon page yet.

Inside Kaliphlin Day 6 - The Great Dragonboat Race
TheLegoDr replied to robuko's topic in Guilds of Historica
They might be incredibly hot in the hoods, or extremely cool. The hood will probably block out some of the hot sun, therefore keeping their skin slightly cooler. Plus the sweat will soak in, so that might have a cooling effect also....speculation of course. -
I think they want to get the Chima word out, but also they probably have a lot of that particular set that they can't move. I received 3 on May the Fourth sales. I didn't make 3 orders mind you. Amazon has had it on 50% sales ever since May 4th also. I'm not sure what it is now, but I know it has been heavily discounted for a long time. So if they are still giving them out, then I guess they must not be moving too easily. Like the full price SW B-Wing.. All of my orders were shipped, but I haven't received anything yet. I'll see if my Orthanc comes with one also. Not that I need another one.

I've never been to a game before, but this seems fitting. I really like the ground work to represent the lanes. That is a lot of derby girls. How many CMFs did you buy? Keep up the great work.
