  1. Not that my experience means anything, but my theater at a 10:00 showing 4 days after it premiered was still fairly full. Obviously everywhere is different, but reviews don't help. I think people should be the judge for themselves instead of having someone else do their thinking for them. Critics are given that title for a reason, they are to criticize everything. If the movie going public hates it, then they hate it. But the sets will speak for themselves. Even if the movie is a flop, I bet the sets will sell well if only because it is a new Western theme. It would be great for future sets if it was a success though. I honestly didn't think the ending was as open ended as most franchises, so maybe they weren't planning on making too many sequels anyway??
  2. These were very enjoyable. I really like the Mandarin one. I always have to say it like him whenever I hear/read that line. The Tony Stark/NY one was great too. I'd like to think Superman just has "super-hair" also, so he doesn't have to style it. Although, couldn't he just freeze time by changing the rotation of the earth to make up for lost time in styling his hair?
  3. I would consider doing it in tiles to represent stone on the ground. I'd think of it as a pattern. I am rather partial to the parquet look of 2 1x2 tiles side by side, then right next to them, have another 2 1x2 tiles in the other direction, just to give off a more patterned look. This is really inspiring. I want to do something similar for my figure now. I just need the idea to make it happen. Keep up the great work!
  4. Brilliant design. It is always interesting to see brick built versions of things. Smart use of pieces in this one.
  5. It is similar enough, yet different enough from the official set it stands out well. I really like the finished look to it all. I love LEGO ships, but the open deck does feel a bit off at times. It worked for BSB back in the day, but these newer ships do look more finished with the end result. I loved the Imperial Flagship and I am currently modding the QAR to have a finished deck. This ship will be next on the list, especially after seeing your finished product. Great job. Keep up the great work!
  6. Really interesting build. I'm not much of a horror movie person, I prefer to sleep at night with happy thoughts. But you've nailed some of the major scenes of these movies. The scale is amazing by itself. You can see the Haunted House in the back and just imagine the size difference between them makes it really impressive. The color scheme works well. Nice floor in the Addam's Family room. I used that same combination in my Winter Village MOC this past winter. I may have to borrow that Winnebago design. Brilliant collaboration people!
  7. Unbelievable! Very impressive work. I'm only vaguely familiar with the actual castle, but from what I can tell, this is spot-on. I think you picked the perfect scale for it. I think that is where I struggle the most. I would definitely consider buying this if it was in the new Expert line. At about 4,000 pieces, I'd say it would fit in nicely! Keep up the great work!
  8. I have my collection in my signature too. I'm not sure on the ratio of old pre-Dark Ages vs new post-Dark Ages, but I know I had a lot of LEGO when I was a kid. I had a TMNT, GI Joe and LEGO collections, but I enjoyed LEGO the most. I was also the only kid around that had any LEGO growing up. My DA were from 1996 or so until 2010 with the HP release. I was about age 13 when it happened. That seems to be a pretty typical age to get interested in other things and away from "toys." It is quite interesting since most of the color scale is different now than when I was a kid.
  9. I saw the movie last night after all. I knew nothing about it going in other than what the LEGO sets provided. So it was neat seeing the different figures and whatnot. Not every set is spot on, but it never is. I thought overall they did a good job with it though. And I enjoyed the movie compared to the poor box office sales.
  10. I've seen the Spongebob bicorn quite frequently. I've even seen capes in that section before, although rarer. I just did a couple the last time I was in Chicago and I can't remember, but there was something Licensed related in it. Usually things like a hat or accessory will be thrown in there.
  11. Awesome build. I think you captured the scene of an assembly line perfectly. That finalized cake is brilliant too! I love seeing minifigure accessories used as something else. Keep up the great work!
  12. Thanks for sharing. I know a lot of people will be interested in seeing that! Keep up the great work! :)
  13. Great job! It very much resembles the classic Pirates I grew up with and loved. I like the build and the scene depicted. Keep it up!
  14. Good job! I like the little details and the things people can do with micro scale is beyond me. Good work there. I agree the student does look like they need to use the facilities, but it at least gives an impression of legs instead of the normal LEGO person sitting down. I really like the ship the most. I was just thinking of doing a micro scale ship scene with multiple ships and I was going to do a simple 1x2 inverted slope, but I like this way much better. Keep up the good work!
  15. Great MOC. I love that scene and I love the saying, look to the East. It just alluded to something grand. I agree by having some orcs/uruks fleeing away would be a good addition. But also I think what this MOC is really missing is the blinding white light of the sun! Keep up the great work!
  16. I can't believe I missed this originally. I love the water effect the most. It seems so seamless in this MOC. I haven't seen it done that way, but it works well. I actually feel like water is spilling out. Great job there. The grating looks great also. Seeing Catwoman back there betraying Bruce, so heartbreaking. I felt so bad for Bruce in that scene. I had to turn away when the cowl was breaking. To make this MOC better, you should have broken your cowl to give the added look. Sacrilege I know! I loved the movie though, unlike so many others. And I liked this Bane a lot. I just find it funny that Tom Hardy had to use platform shoes to match the height of Christian Bale. Keep up the great MOCs. This one is spot-on.
  17. I'm torn. I already own all of the sets, but if I could find some on discount thanks to a movie bomb, then I'd be happy for that. But on the other hand, I'd want to see more future sets if there were to be a sequel also. I typically enjoy Disney live action movies, so I will see this, but I have the tendency to see less movies in theaters than I used to and not necessarily because of the economy. I just prefer to watch at home, so that won't help them any. As much as I enjoyed the POTC movies, the sets were decent, but I think the LR sets are even better and I haven't seen the movie. We shall wait and see how it ends up. Maybe the initial critics weren't impressed, but word of mouth will spread and the general public will enjoy it. I think doing a $250 million movie is troubling for any franchise (unless it is Super Hero related these days).
  18. I don't think I'd go so far to say "we all know the basics of the company" since I know very little of the company. I just know they make plastic bricks and they used to be wooden toys. This book may be interesting for sure, but not everyone knows all the tidbits about the company. Just to fyi.
  19. Wow, Kristel, you are way more organized than I am. But I guess you would have to be to turn out those great MOCs of yours. So far, I've only been sorting out pieces I have noticed I need a lot of at any given time. And with that, most of them have been smaller pieces, so they won't get lost in the larger containers. So tiles, plates, cheese slopes, 1x1 round plates, and headlight bricks (also the modified bricks with studs on on or two sides for SNOT-work). The rest are separated by color for right now. That seems to be working for the time being, but if I had unlimited time (or if I could devote other time to it, then it would work out better.
  20. TrumpetKing - the Hot dog cart is for July and yes that is for US. I ordered a LOTR set and will be receiving the hot dog cart soon enough. As far as August, definitely underwhelming. I may wait then on the SW sets. I don't care much about Galaxy Squad and I already have a few of the ice cream cart. Thankfully Target had them a long time ago (around Valentine's Day or earlier maybe?), but they sold out quickly. That ice cream cone piece is neat.
  21. A lot of good responses so far. I'd also agree by looking at your typical hourly/daily wage. How do you value your time? I'm quite pleased with how much I make; however, if I were to be paid more, I wouldn't say no to that. So typically I recommend going a little bit over what you would want, so you have a buffer to negotiate. If you go in with what you want and they say no, then you're already taking a hit against what you wanted and you won't be as happy in the long run. Now, the fact that you would do this for free makes it all the more difficult. I agree about having progress shots and/or a timeline to show them how on schedule you are. And I would also agree with having a payment scale to coincide with the progress perhaps. Too many times people get paid up front and crap out or it gets delayed until well after you finished. Contracts are the most important thing. Even if it is something simple, get it in writing and have everyone sign off on it.
  22. That is a tricky question. I think of course cost of bricks based on the average is the smart thing to do. To value your time, put a number to it. Most people get paid an hourly wage, or at least can calculate an hourly wage. If you're satisfied with that, estimate how long it actually took you to build your MOC and then add in that as labor. Yes, it will be much higher than just pieces alone, but that's the point of MOCing -- to just immerse yourself into something that you want to create or re-create. The main problem is if someone wanted to buy my MOC and I didn't want to get rid of it, but the price was well above what it cost me. You could certainly sell it and then rebuilt it OR rebuild it and then send that to them as the finished product. I think it would all depend on timing. If they want it immediately, you would probably have to sell our MOC and then recreate it with the same pieces later. Others may be willing to wait as you piece it together. If they do wait, you'd need to have to source all of the pieces yourself before getting paid (more than likely) and then they could back out of the deal, unless they were under the agreement that they pay you first, you rebuild it, and send that to them. There would be a lot of trust involved too. Best of luck with your MOCs.
  23. It seems really streamlined. A job well done. I don't know much about ships, but this seems to fit the bill. The color scheme is great. The flowers are a nice touch. Keep up the great work. I love seeing different creations with Friends sets.
  24. Every time I've sold figures, it has been $2.07 with no tracking. I've always had to do tracking because I wanted to make sure they received it, so as to not claim it was "lost." Plus, I've always sold on Amazon, and it requires tracking with that. However, with tracking, it brings the total to ~$2.97 for one figure. I'm not sure how much that would vary if more than one figure was shipped at the same time. It's based on weight and size of package. That's another reason I don't always like seeing high shipping costs on a lot of auctions since I know how much it should cost to ship. Best of luck!
  25. To my knowledge, no. They will remain in your wishlist until you physically delete them. That way if you wanted multiples of it in the future, you won't have to re-add all of the pieces you want. And if you put the same pieces into multiple wishlists, you would then have that piece multiples times scattered throughout, so be mindful of deletion if you have that going on too.
