I started creating animated gif to show gears involved for the different position of the gear selector. It takes time to render them. You can find them all here. Right now the first gear is available. I'll add the rest once the rendering is done. let me know, if you have any suggestions for improvements. Color code: Pink: Input from the xl motor Purple: Gear selector Blue: Drivetrain (The differential close to the motors is distributing the power to the two rear and one front axle.)

I'm currently rebuilding the rear section in Studio and will extract the different paths of the gearbox and paint them in different colors so people, who encounter issues with that set can get a better understanding how it works and where they have to search for issues. I'll very likely will finish that latest tomorrow.

Can't find the info there? But haven't seen the videos yet. Is he talking about the CAT in the videos? -

Make sure you all contact Lego about issues with parts. I's seems no one does this because every time I contact them they tell me that they for example never heard of color issues and issues with the bevel gear. So please report your findings! Premium prices deserve premium quality! -

Call me old fashioned, but "ey" is not a proper greeting. Especially not for the first post here. The thread in which you are posting is quite old. Chance are high that you won't get answer did you read the thread carefully? there are some solutions discussed. It may be useful for you to read the posts again. Welcome to this forum!- 17 replies

Valid point. I'll keep that in mind. -
Cleaning Lego Technic parts

Why wouldn't it work with a front loader? I'm using one and had no issues so far. Be careful with higher temperatures. While it might not damage (color degeneration) the plastic, it might damage them over time. -

Actually, high spinning speed shouldn't matter since at that moment part are not moving anymore. Scratches on the surfaces will only occur when the drum is moving slowly during the washing phase. I would like to add one experience regarding drying parts and what works best for me: High rpm for drying in the laundry machine Thin bed sheet over a dryer like this: That way parts dry really fast. -

Laundry machine, fine mash bag or pillow with zipper, 30°C, liquid soap for all parts, except everything, which contains metallic part and/or is lubricated with grease. Parts with stickers i don't care, since i don't apply them and remove them from older sets i buy. That way 99% got clean so far. if one part doesn't get clean, i use an ultra sonic cleaner for glasses. But you shouldn't that often with the same part again and again. Some part got tiny holes in the surface. I guess that the ultra sonic waves "found" a weak spot on the surface, which then got bigger and bigger every time i cleaned it. Do not make the mistake and clean just plates. I did that one time... man did i spent a lots of time to disassemble the plates again. Turned out that during the drying process the spinning speed was high enough so plates were connected to each other. So always have a good mixtures of parts, to prevent that. Safes you time and wounded fingers. -

I have 100k+ parts and sets from as early as 1989. There have always been color (even black) and size variations. But i can't say when it started. First time i noticed that was with the set 8421. But i never noticed differences within one set. First time i noticed color variations in within one set was the 42114. It's this parts: There seems to be a pattern. The Ducati had as far as i know color issues with a similar part:This part was significantly darker than for example the panels. Same applies for the Lambo, which had even more parts with color variations. Der Held der Steine, german Youtuber and shop owner, mentioned an interesting detail during his review (link with time stamp, english auto generated subtitles are available but do not makes sense sometime, but you'll get what he is saying) of the a set from Cada, which also contained the red connector i mentioned before. They seem to be identical, as if they are coming from the same molding form... The part I'm complaining about in my 42114 just looks like a foreign body in the set. It has a different surface, different color, different edges, sharper compared to sets from earlier years. I do not expect to have consistent colors across may years. But at least within a set, should be the minimum quality standard. If, I'm paying premium prices, then I'm expecting premium quality. -
You should be careful about your wording. This set has three axles with a total amount of six wheels. There is a central differential installed at step 95 (click the link), which distributes the power from the motor to the two rear axles and the front axle. Inside that differential there are 3 three smaller gears. Based on what you describe I would assume that not all of them are installed. To be more specific, I think your are missing the gear installed at step 95 nd substep 3. So please start checking from steps 95 on, if everything is assembled correctly. And please carefully follow the instructions. Take your time and double check everything. If all the gear are installed, please put the truck on its back so the wheels are at the top. Then try to block the two rear axles, while you are driving. Does the front axle now turn? If yes, there seems to be an issue with to much friction on the axles and gears, which are driving the front wheels. So make sure you don't assemble gears and axles too tight. I wonder why Lego doesn't include this advice anymore:

Congrats! I hope this set will be released by Lego. But I have mixed feelings about that. On one hand I really would like to buy what you created exactly how it looks now. But I'm afraid of what Lego will do to it. As far as I'm aware of no Ideas set was released like it was build by the designers. -
42114 VOLVO 6x6 Hauler problem

But without purple piece (cable holder) the motor would be able to determine it's position. What happens now when you try to calibrate the set?
