[WIP] Lego monorails. [Custom Rail Systems (CRS)]
XG BC replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Yea thats the one of two pf motors i currently own, the other one beeing the train motor. I am shure this is able to be redesigned using a more common motor such as the pf m or l motor. I might need to get another motor myself because the E-motor i have is broken it runs but gets slower after some time and the safety thermistor gets really hot and starts smelling. I will attempt to redesign the motor portion tomorrow. XG BC -
[WIP] Lego monorails. [Custom Rail Systems (CRS)]
XG BC replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Hello Guys, Today I got a little bored and decided to digitaly make a modified airport shuttle that is able to run on the crs track. Have a look: the studio file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/900b6lt5aw910om/Airport Shuttle Mod.io?dl=0 feel free to build it and tell me if it works as i do not have the parts to do so right now XG BC -
What would you want from a new Lego monorail system?
XG BC replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Train Tech
yea if i ever go there i will definitely do it. do you know wich part of the system doesnt work reliably? XG BC -

monorail = single rail. in my opinion the wuppertaler schwebebahn is indeed a monorail just not a straddle beam one wich you would see at lets say disneyland. there is one other „schwebebahn” style sytem in germany wich is in dresden but it works more like a funicular in a sense that the cars dont have motors in them but are beeing pulled by a cable. I rode the dresden one twice but i would love to go to wuppertal to ride the bigger one XG BC -

the only thing we really need as stated above is a curved tile with a reasonable radius i have made a 4 wide monorail motor car have a look at it: https://www.mecabricks.com/en/models/GVjKJ7Z32nz or have a look at the unpowered car: https://www.mecabricks.com/en/models/BLvGWNwkvGy the monorail works with a masao hidaka style track. great! looks really good. i am excited to see how the croc will run on the full layout! its also really stupid (atleast in my opinion that the pf motors have 4 wires goinb to them it only makes for a stiffer larger cable and more cost for the cable.) XG BC

thanks for the link they should work with 9v aswell as i said it probably isnt an issue if you are runnung the motors for a short period of time as you do when switching a switch just check if your motors get excessively hot. if thats the case i would switch to 9v. but i am interested to see what you come up with. i think he is counting on stray light wich should work. as an extra tip: the gaps between individual cars will trigger the light sensors aswell so programm some sort of dead time in. XG BC

can you send me a link to the motor drivers you bought so i could take a look at it. running 12v is probably fine as long as you are only runnung the 9v motors for a short time. XG BC

You can connect all 3.3 and ground connections to one pin as they will be brought together at smeplace anyways. can you send me a link or a picture of the hc 05 you are using? i have one where the actual hc 05 board is soldered onto another board where the levelshifting (ie converting 3.3v to 5 and vice versa) is done. im not shure if you have a similar one to me. I would try running the l298n with 9v first as the actual driver chip is a so called h-bridge ich basicly just directly connects the supply voltage to the motor XG BC

E Motor Turning Slower after a few seconds
XG BC replied to XG BC's topic in General LEGO Discussion
the issue is the motor itself as no matter the power source it does this (i have tried a official technic battery box, a 9v 1A mains switching psu and an fischertechnik recharcheable battery) wires are all ok too no issues there have checked it with a multimeter -
Fixing 9V track pickups with electrical tape?
XG BC replied to Modeltrainman's topic in LEGO Train Tech
i think i have read somewhere that you can somehow open the pickup piece and the plug and solder new wires to them you should defenitely try that. the normal electrical tape (atleast in my experience) is not a good fix for that as it falls of quite quickly due to low stckiness of the tape. i have never tried the liquid stuff though. if it doesnt you could also get a powerfunctions xl motor to somehow fit in the loco and then i am shure it could pull all your cars. If you really want 9v power have a look at this video: XG BC
-
then you need to try a hacked powerfunctions motor as they have a lot more torque ideally an xl motor but if you just dont turn up the transformer all the way unless you are using a custom pwm controll system it should not burn up the motor also i think although im not shure the powerfunctions motors can handle 12v permanently. you could also buy: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/search.page?q=12v pickup#T=A as this would be a better/more stable power pickup XG BC
-
you could try if it has the power to move itself without your pickups attached as they add quite a bit of friction generaly. maybe you could post some images of your pickup solution here so i or others could take a look at it. you could also try adding another motor or hack a powerfunctions motor ( hack apart a extention wire and wire that up to your pickup. just be careful not to turn up your transformer all the way as i am not shure for how long the 9v powerfunctions motor will handle 12v. XG BC

You could try to add more weight to the locomotive or if the issue is not the traction but the power of the motor you should try a powerfunctions or poweredup motor as they are more powerful than the 9v motor XG BC
-
Hello Guys, it has been a while since i last posted something in the forum but i have this issue with this old powerfunctions e motor that has this strange behavior: after you turn it on, it runs normaly for a few seconds and then it is getting slower and slower until it almost stops with zero torque. Do you guys know what causes that or how to fix this? i know how to solder stuff so i could do it myself. XG BC
-
Yes it is possible however the metal wheels will be powered too as the connector was originaly desinged for the lights and is simply directly connected to the motor aswell as the pickup wheels. XG BC

Sorry for warming up such an old post but you can run linux applications on your phone/tablet now using this app (no root required) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cuntubuntu&gl=EN then you can also use leocad and all linux applications XG BC

what about electric locos? they dont have any fuel source onboard. i mean yes they got transformers and stuff on board but that stuff is still wayyy smaller than the HUGE battery boxes that lego gives us. I tried to build my own power pickups a while ago wich would whipe along the track but this idea wasnt succesful since i had constand contact problems and couldn't drive across switches. I am now getting my hands on some O gauge wheels to modify using this method: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nDKTOyN4uzw XG BC

nice suggestion! XG BC
-
so we all guessed wrong its a nohab loco! thats nice too!
-
oh ok i didnt know that sorry. Have fun with your vectron! XG BC

First of all i want to say that this is a really good looking model and i really like the look of vectrons. A thing you are missing is the pantograph of the vectron. If you build the diesel version then thats ok but you would need different sides for that.
