Well I can tell you that the fact I've even built my own MOC in the first place is thanks to being inspired by this topic and other similar ones on EB. I originally joined EB last year so I could discuss official lego sets but before this I never really paid much attention to MOCs. It wasn't really an area of lego I was massively interested in. I never really felt I'd have the time or the skill to create my own lego ideas and was happy just buying standard sets and following the instructions. Looking at this topic every day though has certainly opened my eyes and I can see why you are so enthusiastic about these incredible models. So yes I have definitely been inspired by this topic and also the other one you created asking people to share their tips on designing MOCs. Not sure whether people will like my design or not. It is only a 16 wide build. I have thoroughly enjoyed putting it together though.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Well they look pretty cute. The pet shop one works quite well. -
I think you're probably right. I don't think there is any solid evidence at the moment to support this rumor as we'd have probably heard something by now. That's not to say there won't be pirates in 2019 though. It would make sense with it being the 30th anniversary.
-
Is this just wishful thinking or do you know something we don't?

The new logging vehicle 60181 almost looks like a farm tractor in disguise. I reckon lego could do some really good tractors and farm vehicles so maybe the theme will return at some point. I didn't realise it was that long since the last farm sub theme.
-
Ok this might not sound as exiting as some of the space ideas being discussed, but I would really like to see some new farming sets in the future. There haven't been any for a while and there are lots of possibilities for sets with things like tractors, combine harvesters, animal transporters etc.
-
What a stunner! This almost rivals the theatre you posted earlier this week. Just so detailed and I love the clever use of parts to create all the details. Gold wine glasses as railings on the stairs for example.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Bricked1980 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think it tends to be roughly the same but does vary between sets. In Assembly Square the height of the bottom floor in the blue building (cafe) is lower than the other 2 buildings (flower shop and bakery). -
Just been looking at this and it really is wonderful. I can see why it has been so popular on Flickr. It honestly looks as if it's been designed by a professional Lego designer and your phorography is top notch as well. Really great work!
-
It's coming on pretty well thanks. I created a design using LDD which I was quite pleased with and then earlier this week I built it for real. After building it with real bricks though, there are a few things that don't look quite right, so it needs a bit of fine tuning. It's only a 16 wide modular but it has 3 levels and I'm trying to cram in as much detail as I can. Hopefully I'll be ready to present it online within the next couple of weeks.

I think the Yacht looks as if it will be a pretty decent set. The secondary builds look pretty good as well although it's still difficult to tell much info from small pics. @Klaus-Dieter and @Agent 86 I agree with your comments about the Pastry shop, Candy shop or whatever it's called. I really did have high hopes that this might be a continuation of the line that gave us the Corner deli, Bike shop and cafe etc but it definitely doesn't look as if this is the case. It looks like a cross between a Friends and a Juniors set. I hate to criticize Lego sets as this will probably be a great one for kids but I think the "Modular" system that they've started to incorporate in to recent Creator buildings, ends up making the designs look awkward and clunky, certainly not as good as some of the buildings we've had in the past.

This one has to be my favourite although they are all great. Just love the intricate details on this one. Congrats on hitting the 10,000 mark. It's certainly a great topic and I'm sure there are many people (myself included) who look forward to seeing the daily updates. It's almost become like a mini version of "the brothers brick" website with different MOC's shown every day. It's also a great way of giving exposure to older MOC's that have probably been forgotten about by a lot of people. Great work!!

This is a good idea. Something like that would make a great starter set and would be much more affordable for the majority of parents buying the sets for their kids. Lego have implied recently that trains are not that popular with kids and that the sets don't sell all that well. I was pretty surprised to hear this really as I would have expected loads of kids would love the idea of a Lego train. It's probably more likely that the parents are less willing to shell out over £100 on a Lego set for their kids rather than the kids not being interested in them. If they produced a smaller starter set at a cheaper price then this would surely be more popular.
-
Well it was definitely worth the effort. The pics really make you feel as if you're inside the building.

I like the tree personally. I wish more of the official modulars would include trees, they add a bit of life and organic shaping to the models which contrasts nicely with the squareness of the buildings.
-
I thought the tree looks as if it is a birch or one of those trees that have stripey black and white bark. A bit like the sample below. Great work with this MOC by the way, I really like that lime green colour and it contrasts well with the brown I reckon.
-
Just been looking through the gallery and it's amazing. The last shot of the minifigs sitting in the theatre seats is just so detailed. I think this MOC sums up the title of this topic perfectly. I don't see how anyone could fail to be inspired after looking at this. I also really like the little details on the exterior like the hanging baskets and plants on the lamp posts. Her brick built roads are also really good. Looking forward to seeing this in the future.

Thanks for pointing this out. Just found them, they do look better than the blurry leaks we'd seen up to now. I couldn't find them at first but I added "2018" to the seacrh term you suggested and they came up straight away.

Adding a Banner Image to Profile Page

Just wondered, did anything come of this? Wasn't sure whether the option might have been added over the weekend whilst EB was offline for maintenance.- 16 replies

I think if Pirates do return it will most likely just be another short lived homage to the original sets like we saw in 2015. They will probably just recycle the usual ideas again and have Pirates vs either Red or Blue Coats. There would most likely be a ship with red striped sails, a fort and various small ship wreck defense style sets. As much as I would like to see a more in depth Pirate theme with Islanders and other factions, I think Lego will most likely stick to the stereotype kids idea of Pirates with peg legs, parrots, buried treasure etc. They could re-invent it completely and give it the Nexo Knights treatment but I think personally I'd prefer them to stick with the usual style rather than any kind of futuristic makeover.
-
In the end I only ordered one set, so only got one of the free promotions they were offering. I'm pretty sure I could have combined other items in my order and would have received multiple free gifts though. The best bet is to go to the Lego shop online and add the qualifying sets to your basket. If the order is eligible for the free gifts then they will show up in your basket as well. If only one free gift shows up in your basket then it will mean that the multiple offers can't be combined.
-
Yes I suppose having 2 carriages is the better option for people who intend to buy 2 copies of the set. I imagine this is why Lego has done it that way. To make a complete train is gonna work out pretty expensive though and most kids wont have parents willing to buy them 2 copies of the same set. I am eagerly awaiting the release of the official images, surely it can't be long now. I think the low res leaks have ruined a lot of peoples opinions of these new sets. I bet they will look much better when the official pics come out though. It's the same with the new City Arctic theme. I didn't think they looked very good at first but I have changed my mind since seeing the new pics that were revealed last week.
