So after watching the video again ... Is there "space" to gear back up after the worm to gain some speed ... I rather like the "chuff" the gear makes lol. But even for shunting that is slow ....

This is a swell compact model ... It will be perfect for incoperating PU (once the lack of budget allows). I really like how the driver sticks out

I gotta say thisis truely spot on. The county was doing road work infront of work and were using one of these (without the rail attachment). I pulled up this and held it up .... So again well done sir!

The time wasworth it ... I have a similar O scale train that laps the tree. This really turned out well. It doesnt look 10w but it looks "right"

I think i need to own a set of these now! Lol seriously making me rethink building some german engines and rolling stock! These are beautiful. Now im assuming the doors are static and do not open?

Quadruple crossing automated by Arduino
Roadmonkeytj replied to AlmightyArjen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I love this! So obviously there was "some" trial and error in getting the timing right. So is it strictly based off timing or is there some block sensors involved in train detection?- 19 replies

Not always true shorter platform stops passengers are instructed that doors will not open past cabin x passengers are to exit forward cabins. -
Power Functions and Santa Fe: stating the obvious
Roadmonkeytj replied to wtorbeyns's topic in LEGO Train Tech
The grey that doesnt match is the motor skirting. The old grey is noticably different then the newer "blue grey" I can only speculate as im not the op but I think he was refering to not having to swap to the black or blue grey side skirts nor having to change the exterior appearance. As has been said the IR can be set in the cab and the battery box can be set where the "engine" goes. The pf motor can be used with the old grey skirts if the wheels do not rub (two different mold patterns of old grey ... One rubs the other was revised) However the 6 long axles will have to be shortened by half bushing width or you need to drill out the slots in the side skirts for the axle to clear. -
It seems that there is no standard ... More so that where ever is convenient for the location. (Images from Google) So if keeping to a more "prototypical" location. Then modifying your switch so as to not "foul the track" would be prototypical for your railroad

Power Functions and Santa Fe: stating the obvious
Roadmonkeytj replied to wtorbeyns's topic in LEGO Train Tech
one of my lug members has an original (runs on 9v or PF) and another has a newly built (with new grey and PU) they both decided to shave a 6 long axle down by the width of a half bushing. The axels are the perfect length then. Oddly enough even with the one engine being "brighter" they still look great double headed. -
Much better indeed!

@Haddock51 could you simply elevate the regulators by 4 bricks to allow a hand to reach under it to throw the corner switch?

Im not normally a fan of supercars but i really do like the look of this ... It has some good body lines. How "swooshable" is it though?

MOC: Vossloh style "DSB" locomotive with remote decoupling
Roadmonkeytj replied to Selander's topic in LEGO Train Tech
You know if you wouldn't have mentioned the fact that DSB did not run locos in this livery I would have belived you foolheartedly lol The design is quite well done ... It has a "official set feel" while having many details to make it stand out. Also even though its 8w it looks as if it were narrower. I can ech the previous comments i would love to see the breakdown of your new and improved axle/uncoupler setup Now if there were only a way to make that happen on a industrial sized switcher.- 16 replies

If running peco rails you will want to build a rail scrubber car ... Theres plenty of designs in scale railroad groups of just about any size (save for z maybe). They are good looking rails but do need cleaned regularly

Do not install metal wheels on both sides of the same axle or you will create a short circuit

5-6m train station (simple 8wide platform)
Roadmonkeytj replied to traintraum's topic in LEGO Train Tech

I think you raided my bricks! Lmao. I really enjoyed this. I have all the same sets (save for a couple). However none of my survived intact and have been parted out for the MoC bins. Its nice to see this set up and how well the old sets all worked with each other. My dock side turned into a moc of a dive reasearch center when i started following the underwater ship recoveries as a kid.
