LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
Digger of Bricks replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Eh, come August, perhaps we'll know something then? As I've said elsewhere before, I'm banking on a potential Wizarding World Series 2 for January 2020, Series 20 for April/May 2020, and hopefully Disney Series 3 for August/September 2020. Alternatively though, perhaps that potential Wizarding World Series 2 could arrive for August/September 2020 instead, tying into the cinematic release of the third Fantastic Beasts film. -
The disappearance of the mid-range sets

...yet Brickset has it down as a Bricks and More set for 2011. While it's potentially a start, that's still more of a Town-based homage to Classic Pirates rather than a straight-up Pirate set. Back then, of course, as at least Castle and Space in particular had their own generic, in-house themes six years ago at the most recent; but, for whatever reason those genres are being held back currently, Creator could be filling that gap with at least a couple sets based upon such for the time being. Steampunk though? Where's there been generic representation for that genre beyond this set? -

While Classic Space & Company can serve as a nice design choice for the sake of paying homage to Lego's roots in Space, it's not incredibly necessarily for hypothetical Three-In-One Sci-Fi Spacecraft to strictly aspire after such. At the very least (irrespective of any particular design inspirations), all I hope to see are some decent minifigure-scaled spacecraft sets from Creator sooner here than never, and the previously cited secondary build for this year's Futuristic Flyer set is at least a start towards something better. It isn't. It simply illustrates that there is no context Creator operates under that restricts them from delving into fantastical subject matters, yet they seemingly hesitate to try other such ideas beyond what they recycle year-after-year. Lego's got to try at least one ground-breaker for the theme each year alongside their tried-and-true selection for the sake of experimentation. If other fantastical subject matters work for Action/Adventure themes, why couldn't they work for Creator? Would the demographic interested in Action/Adventure themes not be as interested in a more generic Sci-Fi/Fantasy-inspired set? Maybe the primary demographic interested in Creator would be adverse to the fantastical concepts/vehicular craft/architecture otherwise seen in Action/Adventure themes? What about the demographic interested in the generic, non-licensed Collectable Minifigure line? Would they be interested in sets based upon the various worlds such CMF archetypes inhabit? -
Perhaps you should try an Anime-inspired Mecha Pilot more specifically, as a tribute to Lego's Exo-Force theme.

Heh, I really dig that Alien Invader design, while that Video Game Girl ironically reminds me of Vanellope von Schweetz.

Well, the many brick-built dragon sets we've seen so far technically fall into the context of Castle; but still, it just ain't medieval architecture. Exactly, at least for the time being that is. Grey, Blue, and Trans-Yellow Spaceships? I mean, it's so colorfully characteristic for the Creator Three-In-One line, it's kind of a no-brainer. -

Sure, but both of those still pretty much fall into the Town/City context. I mean, for the most part, it almost feels like the Creator theme is just a component of some pantheon of Town-based lines like City, rather than being more like the broadly-arching playset equivalent to the Collectable Minifigure line. -

From that perspective, sure, but at least the theme has a solid history of releasing such. On the other hand, when was the last time Creator have us anything Medieval, Steampunk, Greco-Roman, Pulp-inspired, Mayan/Aztek, Classic Space, Piratry-related, Cyberpunk, and whatever-else-not-within-the-realm-of-modern-Town/City-in-some-way? * Answer: Never! -

It's not that bad, though there's still nothing quite that extraordinary/ground-breaking for the theme. But, from what we've heard of so far, summer doesn't look to be offering anything else close to the fantastical exactly. Brickset - Creator | 2019 -

That's understandably the most plausible (and maybe only) reason for such lack of "progress" as you put it, yeah, they're playing it safe. Still, while I do see some degree of experimentation with a few exceptions to the rule we've seen recently, I feel that experimentation isn't as aggressive as it is with other themes. That's a shame, as it's only one of Lego's best-selling themes year-after-year; so, how could setting aside at least one SKU per year for a more radical departure from the norm (for the sake of experimentation) hurt the theme? Try a Three-In-One Steampunk Airship, Greco-Roman Architecture, a British Tank Engine, a Gundam-inspired mecha, Art Deco '30s Rocketcraft, a Medieval Blacksmith's Shop, a Classic Shuttlecraft, a lost Mayan Temple, a Sci-Fi Dropship, a Mechwarrior-inspired walker, a fantastical Crimson Skies-inspired Racing Aircraft... -
Cool! Thanks for the full preview of the latter!

I'm not at all suggesting that it'd be a permanent solution to the problem, only that it'd act as a hold-over for such until the time is ripe to release an entire playtheme. That's the role I feel Creator should act upon to some degree, not necessarily as their sole purpose, but to occasionally be the playset equivalent of Lego's non-licensed Collectable Minifigure line. Think about it, even sets based upon concepts, genres, and tropes that would otherwise maybe never receive an entire playtheme could be all possible as one-off products under the Creator Three-In-One line, much akin to many generic CMFs we've seen over the years. -
LEGO Disney Minifigures & D2Cs - Rumors and Discussion
Digger of Bricks replied to Robert8's topic in LEGO Licensed
In my opinion, Lego really should've found some sorta way to print (rather than mold) less-static features such as mouths for Mickey & Company's specialized heads, as they're all now stuck with only a single expression. Granted, having duck bills and all, Donald, Daisy, and the Duck Tales "quack pack" are one thing, but at least Mickey's/Minnie's head could've easily done without a molded mouth for further expressive possibilities (via printing instead).- 961 replies

So, all you know so far is that it's a HD motorcycle? Any other specifics?

For me, it's all in the name, as I feel this theme could have its protagonists further investigate other aspects of this "Hidden Side" and/or other "Hidden" things. More preferably, I suppose I'd just like to see this theme evolve into something more akin to Scooby-Doo, with a much broader-arching focus on paranormal investigation overall.

The disappearance of the mid-range sets
Digger of Bricks replied to astral brick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Oh indeed, I am well aware of those exceptional incidents of such, hints of potential progress for the theme which I'm desperately welcoming of! But, when you compare that to other themes' evolution, Creator seems a lot more cautious/hesitant to push that envelope. Looking at many of City's more recent "exploration" subthemes, they look to stretch the context of their theme more than Creator does. And seriously, what context is Creator operating on anyway?! For a theme that shouldn't necessarily be held back by any such contextual boundaries, something seems to be holding them back. -

Oh sure, there are definitely many benefits to the typical modern playtheme set over sets built around a singular build; but, my comment on narrative was only a segue into my point regarding how I feel about Creator expanding their horizons as far as subject matter goes. Just look back at the Creator Three-In-One line's past offerings over the years, and you can see how woefully underutilized the theme is. Why such a thing hasn't happened for the Three-In-One line is beyond me, as Creator keeps on recycling various particular subject matters for years on end with only a trickle of progress beyond their conceptual retreads. Suburban houses, dinosaurs, robots, cars, motorcycles, animals aircraft, dragons; where's all the sci-fi spacecraft, medieval architecture, mecha, lost ruins, treasure islands, airships, and other fantastical ideas that exist beyond the confines of what the City theme would encompass? Again, being one of Lego's most boundless themes, Creator has so much potential! And yet... -
Hey, that hairpiece for Edgar looks pretty nice (is it a new design?). Plus, what's supposed to be the name of the clown archetype seen in your signature? I like her pink recolor of the Rag Doll hairpiece!

The disappearance of the mid-range sets
Digger of Bricks replied to astral brick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yeah, most likely in correlation with the cinematic run of Star Wars' prequel trilogy with the first break, whereas the current absence could be in correlation with the cinematic run of the sequel trilogy (if one were to play along with that line of speculative thought). Screw the playtheme narrative, all I've ever cared about as both a kid and an adult were the cool-looking set designs, which various in-house Space themes of the 2000's did in fact offer. I mean, I don't need a backstory for me to appreciate others' MOCs. And, like as @astral brick, @danth, @LegoMonorailFan, myself, and others have heavily pressed for elsewhere in the past, BRINGING LEGO SPACE TO THE CREATOR THREE-IN-ONE LINE WOULD BE THE MOST SUITABLE COMPROMISE AT THE MOMENT. Seriously, one of the best things about the Creator theme is that all the components of each set are often devoted to a single build, much like others' MOC spacecraft builds. Plus, as opposed to an entire theme, they'd just be one-off sets spread throughout its lineup. Seriously, compared to other playthemes, there's nothing inhibiting the Creator theme from covering any particular subject matter, right? -
Nah, I wasn't necessarily hoping (or counting on) to see that build/vehicle in particular as an actual set, as I'd just like to see either the virtual and/or possible physical model of the cinematic starcraft in its entirety. You see, as far as Lego representation goes, the DCAU's Javelin 7 has only been depicted within single playset and seen as a single MOC built by @BaronSat. * * Yeah, that's how much MOC representation the Javelin 7 has gotten.

Technically this theme's possessed citizens come pretty close to Zombies, though I suppose they could follow the Zombie idea a little closer by having ghosts (rather than a virus) possess dead and buried individuals instead.

DC Superheroes 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion
Digger of Bricks replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Licensed
He really should've had dual-molded legs if they were to even try the overcoat look. Well, at least his torso print doesn't necessarily need those legs, as it can be paired with any other pair of legs for more of a waist-length jacket instead. -
Huh, maybe those were what I was unconsciously thinking of when I threw that out there.
