Which Steering Hub?
letsbuild replied to badmad's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Are you building with Lego? To answer the question, as you rotate the suspension arms up and down, it follows a circle where the center is your rotation point. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/71/5link-rear1-small.gif A brief example. Look carefully and you can see the wheel move in and out slightly. EDIT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-link_suspension This wikipedia page has some great gifs demonstrating this effect. There's no way around the problem of the wheels moving in and out UNLESS you raise and lower the whole axle assembly, including the wishbone mounting points. -
Axle Collection Thread
letsbuild replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I'm currently working on an 8x8. Everything is virtual for now, but I'll test-build it tomorrow. My worry is the rear axles: are they going to be strong enough against torsion? https://mecabricks.com/en/models/PkaJV9qxaxM -

I would put a diff between the front and rear axles, but otherwise it'd be permalocked between wheels -
42110 - Land Rover Defender

In a real car, it feels a lot more natural to shift up (1->2) by pulling than to push. Vice-versa for slowing down and downshifting. -

I would really like to see the results. Could you send a link to a video (in PM) once you receive it? -
[MOC] Dacoma 4x4 Redux
letsbuild replied to Madoca 1977's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, this is AWESOME! I would really like to have one at home, so thank you for the instructions! -
A few months ago, I was messing around with the pull-back motors after disassembling the Trophy Truck. After some quick tinkering, I came up with this: I'm sorry the picture isn't better, but it's the only one I've got. BUT I do have two videos. In this first one, the acceleration is properly demonstrated. The second one shows how it needs all of its grip to not spin out. In the second one, we can see just how easy it is to spin out.

Generic Contest Discussion
letsbuild replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes, unfortunately it dropped through. I think a contest of this style would be too drawn-out to do for each individual component. -

Definitely. 2, maybe 3 are required for such weights. -

The design here is stunning. Very well done, very recognizable. -
I really like the concept. I have seen your other models, and it's super neat. Keep up the compact building!
