  1. Your wisdom is understandable, but I just got 42055, and I plan on building some big, big models from it. In a way this is a good precursor. In terms of broken parts I have some broken black pins and a warped 7l axle, but that's it.
  2. The linear actuator will move the second stage of the boom (the DBG beams). I guess this does look like a luffing crane, though as I said, there will be no winch involved. The front tip of the boom does not remain at the same height. The pictures aren't very telling; I have done more work on this and things should be more evident tomorrow.
  3. Update: Crane time! This is an initial concept of the crane, which will act as a counterweight to the superstructure (well, most of the time at least). When the boom is at its highest position its weight positions itself on the superstructure's rear. It also happens to be a bit big: So that's it. Leave a comment!
  4. I have a title! "Master Class...uhh....Claas" for the C-models I have built out of set 42054. Given by @Jim, thanks alot! P.s I hope this post adhered to the rules here.
  5. Target isn't the best... in fact there the 42055 is $373, which is $140 ish more than at Costco. In Canada.
  6. Mostly in the crane, but the cab will tilt via pneumatics as well. Thanks so far it seems like I will!
  7. The left fits better, but for the lights above the windshield, I believe the 2nd from the left and the 2nd from the right should be only 1 stud, not 2.
  8. @Leonard Goldstein's 42055 C model inspired this model I am building. It is not based on the same kind of crane (this will have no winch involved). There will be several power and pneumatic functions: -Superstructure sliding -rotation -boom stage 1 -boom stage 2 -tilting cab Current State: Check this post Here are some pictures: Leave a comment! BbBT P.S I do not consider this "doppelganging" or copying. If you do, please tell me.
  9. If you leave the motor running for 2 seconds after the cab has reached an extreme position, and then turn off the motor but leave the cab gear mode engaged, the cab will be extremely stiff and perfect for steering.
  10. Wow! How beautiful! I love the suspension, and the axles as well. I want to see what orange and purple would look like
  11. Could you at least use an axle and some connectors instead of the beam? It'll look better but also be durable.
  12. Merry Christmas! I got the one thing I wanted: 42055 built it in one 7-hour long session on the floor and now my legs are killing me.
  13. Merry Christmas to you! I took advantage of the 42055 deal and now I'm on bag 6
  14. 3 observations about 42081: - It seems like the rear wheels are steered, not the front -It also seems like the rear DBG container has no function, which is a major letdown. -I don't think there is a gearbox.
  15. If people need the 2018 2H pictures, PM me, I have saved them Definitely much more interesting than 2017!
  16. This turned out amazing! Beautiful in an ugly way! I'm glad you got all the issues fixed. Though I must ask: what happened to the Tigercat Skidder?
  17. Expressing thoughts on the new sets: 42079. Ingenious mechanism, looks like it's gonna be a hit. Or at least the instructions will I can see this being overpriced like the 42061. 42080. Color vomit is bad, but there is tons of function potential and that's what matters to me. These are prelims anyway so it may very well change. 42081. I just don't get it. Such a weird vehicle, it really doesn't make sense as a set. Great parts though. 42082. Love it. I'm hoping the boom goes to 80cm+, because that would be a real feat. Also, images were removed.
  18. Thank you! I believe a person who likes to mod MOCs could easily alter this to have buckets. Alternates become a bit easier the bigger of a set you go with- parts become more varied, and so options grow. 42054 is exceptional in the sense that its parts are quite general and plentiful apart from the tires, unlike some sets like the 42055.
  19. Very nice idea! I would strongly advise you to make the front and rear portions longer.
  20. Can someone give me a link to these pictures which I can't find?! Thanks in advance!
