Well nice things you wish upon me. Although it was actually 4 months on my last ship after the satellite antenna broke before we could get it replaced. first had to go to a 'civilised' port to recieve one, and then figure out how to get it attop of the mast (man power, rope and pulley was the answer, but no time, so next port i.e. 3 weeks later) But to be honest it is of hardly any use to keep the ships going, other then get db's from trade. I would just spend a mcra turn to catch up with the fleet again from where i was stranded. Glad I missed that! otherwise I would be missing out on an most promising Ball :P

[OL - February MRCA Build] The capture of Gregory Decker
Bart replied to Bodi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I like the schooner, the rake is excellent. Personally I feel like the lego prefab basses in combination with the CGH tumblehome technique isn't suitable for a two decker. But don't let me stop anyone. The story is well done. I hope we will hear somewhere the fate of the poor mister Decker. -
[OL-Royal Arsenal of Astrapi] Emptying the sea with a bucket
Bart replied to Keymonus's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Excellent build, I really like all the details of the water works. And the whole cornerstone story is well build. -
I've been thinking: Why not view it as this: When the owner (EB member/player of bobs) of a ship isn't present, that is sort of the same as the captain is a sleep in his cabin and cannot be woken up. The first mate is capable of handling trade on his own (that is his job anyway) But for a battle he would need the Captain present. Gamewise that would work as followes: Ships are allowed to trade as they please (sent around by other players) Not allowed to activity seek battle In case a ship is attacked they have a *% deduction on their change of winning (because the captain is sleeping) *My mind says 30% but that is based on nothing. I do agree with @Bregir that I also believe the players of BoBS are honest in the basis. So I propose a thread to be started where players themselves can announce that they are inactive for a while and player X is managing their ship. or that their ships are anchored for the time being. This does mean that we have to trust each other, sudden inactivity due to off EB reasons isn't tackled this way. I don't know how to solve that. As to whom can assign orders to vessels, only the owner or a representative assigned in above mentioned thread. Trade company ships, TC's are managed by EB members aren't they? So the same applies as above. Faction ships. as long as there is one member of a faction active, there is someone to control the ships, in my view. It doesn't have to be really restrictive, in my opinion. I propose to give the players a thread to announce as above to make things clear and honest. and to give the game masters a handle in the rules to use in case of abuse of the system. I don't know how to answer the other bullit points (instead of the regular C&C appreciated lets say:) Discussion encouraged. Bart

Please let this not turn in to a man hunt for KB, let's just use the situation as an example shall we. It wouldn't surprise me if there are other ships around too without an active guide so to say. I'm all in favour of having a discussion about the subject, to improve the game and world of bobs. Agreed

This is a difficult thing. I myself have been away a long time, without much notice, perks of the job. I didn't have any ships sailing around then so that didn't influence others. But my buildings kept receiving yield all those time. And I was very very happy that when I return I could just pick up the bricks where they dropped and step right back in the game, I had little more db's (not much with 3 builds :P) which made the re-start easy. I wasn't in the ability to give notice of my leave, so by current idea's I could have been frozen out. Which would have most likely blocked my return to bobs. (seriously if it wasn't for the tag about the era 1 medals (by KB if i'm not mistaken?) I probably wouldn't have returned when I did.) I understand what Maxim I is pointing out. in some ways it is unfair to other players. BUT that really depends on how the ship is managed, is it sailing a regular trade run. or is it sailing in escort duty, or in a pirate hunt? If it is just sailing a regular trade, I see it as no different then a build getting yield. And for the idea to use inactive players ships as a protection, so you don't have to pay the upkeep. well they have to pay upkeep then, and therefor also need an income. if the db's dry out the ships cannot sail. Avoiding any abuse could be hard, the way we've set up the game, with the google doc's, as they can be accesed outside of the forum, which is a good point, for ships of several players sailing in convoy can be filled in by one, to avoid any errors for example, but may indeed be a week acces point for unfair play. To sum it up, I understand Maxim I 's point, but I've no idea how to avoid any abuse of the way we manage things now. I am strongly against blocking/freezing players out who are (temporarily) inactive. Bart *oh and if you are looking for an example of someone who doesn't have any contact with EB members other then via EB, read the name above this line:)

Very nice plantation! I really like the scythes. Although I have to admit, I had to google 'millet' as I do not know all the English names for crops. Bart

Thanks, I never knew that! (didn't notice it on previous builds either, but I think that it worked there too, didn't check it as good before I think.) I thought Sea Rats only had a 30% yield bonus on Artisan and a 30% discount on ship building. Usually I use this thread https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/118540-by-land-maps-properties-and-settlements-in-the-egs/ for information, but it doesn't say anything about the 50% discount there.

Do they sell Icecream? if so I may need to reroute my vessel, dodge the olly navy blockades to buy a cone there! Nice building, it got a bit of a fairytale feeling for me, in a good way. I like the woodwork on the 'left' side of the building with the two windows above eachother, and good placement of the barrels under the stairs.

[SR MRCA Reaction] Question of Piracy?
Bart replied to Roadmonkeytj's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
You're welcome!, this is a very good version too. The first draft might have become a bit to difficult for the Lego world, and there where some insecurities about it. This is more playable so to speak. (and way better to understand for all those whom didn't dive into maritime law :P :P) -
oy, Firing practice with bayonets attached, that would result in some bleeding knuckles, but a good practise. Good work on the landscape going from sandy to shrubbery.

[OL-Royal Arsenal of Astrapi] Military Academy
Bart replied to Bodi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice build Bodi, I like the wall/fence and the gate. but would soldiers standing in formation at a formal event be there with a pack? I could understand that it would be like that if they are ready to march out or something. -

[SR-FB-LDD] Nautical School (plenty pictures)
Bart replied to Bart's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thank you. I don't know if there has been something like this. The designers of BOBS thought about it as they made an separate license catagory for it. I can't say I've seen many education style buildings though. (I thought magic and fantasy creatures weren't alowed in bobs, so therefore the spoiler image. and it was a fun seen that came up in my mind) Thank you, it's gotten rather large indeed. I wanted to push different styles into one building, don't know if that really worked out, the result was pushing ship parts into a building :P o.O cookie? ... mess? ... uhm I guess that is situated across the street :D -
Grande Trophy !

I licensed my Nautical School build as a Large Education, which is supposed to cost me 75 db, but there are only 38 db deducted from my account? Not that I mind... but it's not correct. so not fair. and may signal an error somewhere.

Well this build has been going on too long, I actually started it when Era I just started. My apologies for the non-rendered images, because I got fed up with a week rendering and not liking the results. I''ve build a Nautical School. Welcome to the school kid! I'm Captain Teach. Let me give you a tour. Here in the hallway we have mr. Feather, he is in charge of the schools administration. Better stay nice to him, you don't want to be waiting for your diploma for weeks after you've graduated don't you? This is our gun deck, Ollie our Master of Arms rules here, he'll teach you anything about guns, rifles, pistols and granates. He loves his 32 pounder. And up a deck we have our library, You'll find all you need to know, from Atlasses of places you've never heard of, to the secret scrolls from the Order. - I've never seen so many books captain! Hello recruit, I'm the First Mate here, I'll teach you anything about cargo, trade routes, and how to make the most money. But I do warn you I like order on my quarter deck. Here in the hold you may hang your hammock. It's a bit deserted now, we just had it cleaned out after the last students traded the school for a ship Mind your step young men, we are on the tower. Let me introduce you to mr. Constellation, he is our Master of Sails and he will teach you everything about navigation and the secrets of the sextant. Let me warn you, don't upset the settings of his telescope. - Sextants have no secrets Cap. It's all mathematics. Don't spoil it, Charles. Welcome on deck! This is our ship, and the Bosun here will have you racing up those rigging in a week. - The mast is very tall sir Morning captain. Yes it is a tall mast lad, but good to have you here, as you can see we're overhauling the rigging. Ah I see that Serena already started the swiming lessons with your to be classmates. DO you know how to swim boy? Yes Captain, I grew up in Bastion. Any questions left? What is in the galleries, we didn't got there? That be my office, and that is for officers only. I had a lot of fun with this build. I could've gone on for weeks more adding more and more. But I have to leave some for future builds. Some more overview pictures on my Flickr. Bart

Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Bart replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well when you are building a Lego model you have to make compromisses sometimes due to the limitation of bricks, and this work around people only notice when you point them out. And I'll be on the look out for when you release the full images :D
