Another beautiful day in Quinnsville. Captain Bran is enjoying his coffee when he walkes the streets, listening to the noise of the craftmenship and inhabitants of this small settlement. As he walkes the wooden bridge to the warehouse on the east side of the river he stops and stares at his so called home. A warehouse where he stayed the last couple of weeks. His face lit up, he likes it here, but the hammock on the top floor of this building isn't suitable for a long stay. Captain Bran summons two of his loyal compagnons. The naval officer and a converted sea rat called Jacobus, who does small and short ranged trade businesses for the captain. After a small debate, the men agree on settling in Quinnsville for a longer term. Which basically means they are here to expand the town, set up shop and operate from this port. Captain Bran talked to Sir Thomas Smaugton on claiming the east part of town just across the river, on which the men agreed upon. The first thing to rise beside the warehouse is the second most important thing to being a good leader: Captain Bran's residence. Large Shipyard QV10.1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Continuing on his walk along pier past the jetty and storehouses, Richard Brickford stopped by the local shipyards. This large shipyard is next to the smaller but equally busy Quinnsville shipyards, but this one produces much larger ships. QV10.2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr On the pier is a large crane that is used for hoisting the masts and cannon onto the ship. QV10.3 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Richard quickly found the foreman and asked about the shipbuilding status of Quinnsville and the overall demand for high quality ships. He was pleasantly surprised by his response and was sure that Governor Cooke would be equally pleased. Dear Governor Cooke, After my assessment of the pier and trading status I made my way to the local shipyards. They are some of the most well structured and busiest areas of Quinnsville! I interviewed the head foreman of the shipyards and found out some valuable information. As you already know, Sir Smaugton was quite the seafaring man and before his disappearance he sent up several shipyards with the purpose of building up a trading fleet, most likely under the MAESTRO flag. He commanded the infamous Junkyard Fleet, which has since been disbanded, but apparently he had bigger plans as well. Unfortunately, after his disappearance, the grand idea of a huge trading fleet disappeared as well. Now, the shipyards just try to keep up with the demand for high quality vessels. I believe that with the right guidance Quinnsville could be transformed into quite the trading hub, but only time will tell. The fishing and trading skiffs and rowboats of Quinnsville Small Fishing Boats 1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr In the summer months when the Brick Seas are relatively calm, the Quinnsville fisherman and traders brave the waters to put food on their tables. Small Fishing Boats 2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Some row close to shore to net the schools of fish that swim in great abundance. Small Fishing Boats 3 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Others use a rod and reel to catch fish, but occasionally get more than anticipated... Small Fishing Boats 4 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Some of the larger skiffs can travel greater distances to nearby harbors to trade cocoa and spices among other things. Small Fishing Boats 5 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr After a hard days work, the boats are dragged up onto shore and their supplies are put into elevated houses for safe keeping until they can secure a buyer or until the seas are calm enough to travel to another port. Here is a build for me to license some class 0 boats. I also have been wanting to try out some small hull designs, and I especially like how the larger skiffs turned out! C&C are welcome and appreciated! @Bregir I would like to license all 10 of these small boats. The first two boats in the second picture are just standard rowboats, but I believe I added enough to make them licensable. There are four of the larger skiffs that have sails and one without a sail. They all feature different colors, cargo, and crews so I think they classify as all different boats as well. I think I know the answer, but are they too small to be classified as class 1 boats? Lastly, the three small brick built rowboats are all different in the same way as the skiffs. I don't plan on licensing the beach portion at all. -
Quinnsville Public Records Building QV5.2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr As Royal Surveyor of Quinnsville, Richard figured that the first thing he should do is make a round of all the important building throughout the Town. He first stop was the Quinnsville public records building. Inside was a massive bookshelf, that held all the information about the settlement, the surrounding area, and everything that went on since it was founded. QV5.4 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Richard decided to ask the clerk about some of the history of the settlement and some points of interest that he might want to visit. Having been there for many years, the clerk was more than helpful. QV5.3 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Dear Governor Cooke, Today I visited the public records building, and my, what a splendid building it is! Sir Smaugton certainly had an eye for fine craftsmanship. How unfortunate it is that he has not been heard from in such a long time. Inside the interior was in a slight state of disorganization, (much like the settlement itself) however the clerk on duty keeps the massive bookcase filled with the history of Quinnsville in perfect order. I was able to learn much about the settlement after sitting with the clerk for several hours and have developed a plan of action for Quinnsville. Episode 1 Episode 2 Episode 3 Episode 4 Episode 5 (you are here) As soon as he had heard about the Red Fandago (also known as Flynn Stewart) being found, Colonel Greybeard had gathered a band of his troop with all haste and dashed of to the docks where Sergeant Salt had spotted the highwayman. Well wait a second, allow me to correct that - the first thing he did was find a cab, and then he dashed off with the troop to the docks. But unfortunately, it took so long to find a carriage that in the end not much time was saved anyhow... Be that as it may, they were just tearing up the wharf when Sergeant Salt caught sight of the Red Fandago. "We've got him, Colonel!" he exclaimed - a bit prematurely, as Colonel Greybeard thought. Flynn Stewart was darting down the dock with all haste, carrying the last of his ill-gotten gains with him. Colonel Greybeard spotted a ship's gangplank resting up against the wood, Captain Blofeld waiting for his last crewman at the top of it and ready to depart. "Oh snap! - that chap!" exclaimed the Colonel under his breath. "We must catch this rascal - coach master, faster!" The troop leapt of the carriage and raced to the dock, reaching it just after the gangplank was pulled back and the Surprise began to move. Were they too late? To be continued... Quinnsville Monument QV1.3 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr While Captain Nathaniel Brickford was making his way to the Military District of Quinnsville, he stumbled upon an exceptionally crafted monument. Upon closer inspection, he realized that man on display was the one-and-only Sir Thomas Smaugton, former mayor of Quinnsville. Nathaniel had heard much about Sir Smaugton and his many accomplishments. He founded Quinnsville and led the infamous Junkyard Fleet before one day retiring and suddenly disappearing. Nathaniel figured this might be something of interest to Governor Cooke, so he pulled out his paper and penned another quick note. I found out that it was built to commemorate and remember Sir Thomas Smaugton, whom you know founded Quinnsville. I believe the status and relative order throughout the settlement can be attributed much to his leadership and guidance while mayor. Given time we should be able to build upon the foundation he established and build Quinnsville into a extremely prosperous city. Episode 1 Episode 2 Episode 3 (you are here) In a new ETWC inn recently opened in Quinnsville... (Just one note about this inn - the reason it was such a success, I may as well say at once, was because of two things: one, it served a recently developed fizzling orange-flavored drink which was quite a hit, and two - a very strange thing for Quinnsville - it was a nice place to spend a quiet and peaceful time. With all their customers coming and going all the time nobody knows how they manage to do it, but they do.) Anyways, to return to the point, it was this inn that Colonel Greybeard went to whenever he was stressed or just wanted some of that orange juice. Today he was there with his aide, Lieutenant Stick. Some Corry lawyers (especially Frank, Frank, Frank, Frank and Wrzygrislovsky) had been getting on him again to pick up his chase of the notorious highwayman who had been attacking Corrington's travellers some time ago. Colonel Greybeard had managed to just recently find out that his real name was Flynn Stewart, but he hadn't figured out anything more than that. The Colonel began, Colonel Greybeard: This chap has an uncommon good knack at disappearing, old pal. We will need to recruit another regiment to chase him down, through thick and thin, cloud and fog. Lieutenant Stick: What, Colonel, has old Wrzygrislovsky been getting on you again? Colonel Greybeard: Just so, good chum. But jolly me, he isn't much help at actually helping us find the old chap. Just then Sergeant Salt burst in, confident as usual. Sergeant Salt: Well there, Major - pardon me, Colonel, I mean - I have found him! Colonel Greybeard jumped up. Lieutenant Stick: The Red Fandago? Sergeant Salt: Yes, yes, who else! I saw him on the docks just half an hour agone. Colonel Greybeard: But stop, my chap. You did catch him, right, at any rate, mate? Sergeant Salt: Oh no - that is, not yet. I was sure you would wish to do so yourself, good Colonel, so I dashed off here as fast as I could. Colonel Greybeard: Oh snap, old chap. Burst my buttons. Then let us go, on the double! He grabbed a cookie (oh yes, that was another reason the inn was so popular - they had George's excellent cookies there), and they all dashed out. Colonel Greybeard (muttering): Shiver me timbers, but a bird in the hand's worth two in the bush, or so they say. ... To be continued ... In response to official orders from Captain Jno. Cooke RN: Following the delightful festivities at the Grand Ball of King's Harbour, Colonial Governor Captain Cooke, was impressed with the gumption of Richard Brickford and decided to appoint him the Royal Surveyor of Quinnsville. To accompany and assist him, Captain Nathaniel Brickford was also dispatched as a military attaché to the settlement, to assess the state of the settlements defenses. After enjoying themselves at the wonderful celebration so graciously hosted by the Governor of the Southern Isles, Captain Brickford and his father, Richard, set out immediately for Quinnsville to fulfill their new orders. The docks of King's Harbour were bustling with activity, with so many people having arrived by ship to attend the Ball, so the Brickford's, decided that it would be a smart decision to experience the newly completed Cocovia Wagon Way that they had heard so much about. They experienced quite a pleasant ride on the freshly laid tracks, with beautiful views of the flora and fauna of the island. QV8.2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr After their journey, they were ready and poised to survey the settlement and landscape and report their findings to back to Captain Cooke. But that would start on another day, the first order of business was to find a residence to live in while in Quinnsville! Thanks to @Bregir for the new appointment of Royal Surveyor of Quinnsville! This isn't a super large build, but I figured it would get the job done for showing my characters arriving in their new home of Quinnsville. C&C are welcome and appreciated and thanks for looking! Class 6 Large Exploration Xebec, "Albatross" From the Quinnsville shipyards comes yet another ship! A large Xebec, out-fitted for a long exploration journey or a long profitable trade run. Large Xebec 2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr As the big brother to the recent merchant xebec launched from the shipyards, this one consists of two decks. It also features eights gun, but these have been upgraded to 8-pounders. Large Xebec 3 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr It has a boat stored on the deck for beach landings as well. Large Xebec 5 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr There is a spacious stern and stern castle which features a sizeable Captains Quarters. There is also a few bunks and small kitchen at the rear of the ship. Class 4 Merchant Xebec, "Pelican" Next out of the Quinnsville Shipyards is a small, lightly armed, Merchant Xebec. Xebec 1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Xebec 2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Not built for combat or super long voyages, it is lightly armed with only eight 4 pounders for protection. It's lack of cannon though, means it has plenty of cargo space for a sizeable haul of goods. Class 5 Brig, "RSND Dolphin" With the construction of the new Quinnsville shipyards, the shipwrights have been rather busy! One of the shipyards most recent additions that they have produced is a lightly armed brig. Imperial brig 3 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Even though it carries only 8 guns, they are 8 rather large 32 pounders. Imperial brig 6 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr It has a small but well lit stern, thanks to its 6 lanterns. Legostone's Class 7 ship LS Ship 4 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr After the most recent shipping activity that damaged and claimed several ships to depths of the Brick Seas, the Monezterrell shipyards have become overloaded with work. The shipwright's there have been busily repairing vessels that were either recently acquired or had been damaged during their latest trade run and work on large unfinished vessels like this one had to be moved elsewhere for completion. To assist with the overflow, the newly built Quinnsville shipyard offered to finish this large vessel for a small fee. It's completion was achieved and was now ready for pickup. Right now she sits at about a little over 6k pieces (yes, LDD did crash a few times! ). She's got two decks, and around 32 guns. For those interested, the Quinnsville shipyards are working at low capacity at the moment, so if anybody needs ships finished or built (in LDD), the shipyard is excepting more contracts. If there is enough people who may want to hire the uses of my shipyard, just let me know. I will adjust the Quinnsville Shipyard thread accordingly to accommodate for those business dealings and include prices, limitations, etc. Thanks for checking out this build. Class 7 Frigate "Marlin" Imperial Flagship 1 - red version by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Out of the Quinnsville shipyards comes a lightly armed frigate! She features a spacious gun deck and has plenty of room for troops or cargo. (OOC) Only the first picture is done in Corrington colors. The reason for that is because I originally built it for Lego Ideas and was to lazy to render another 10 pictures showing off all the angles and features. Nothing is different except for the colors and sails. Enjoy! Brickford Residence QV15.1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr After months of walking the streets of Quinnsville, Richard and Nathaniel Brickford were relived to be able to finally write their final report to Governor Cooke in King's Harbour. The stumbled up the steps to their timber-frame house before sitting down at the kitchen table. QV15.2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr With pen in hand they began to write to Cooke about everything they had seen and observed in the months after their assignment began. QV15.3 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr QV15.4 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Their humble abode wasn't even fully unpacked with crates and boxes found everywhere. They had been too busy to worry about unpacking it. Dear Governor Cooke, When I originally arrived at the quaint Quinnsville Station of the Cocovia Wagonway I wasn't quite sure what to expect. My first stop was the Quinnsville Public Records Building. From the books it contained and the help of the clerk, I discovered some remarkable things about the settlement. I learned about the shipbuilding industry that has been established here. So, I journeyed to the Timber Plantation not far from the outskirts of town. The work that the lumberjacks perform is remarkable! After that I went to look into how the ships are actually made at one of the Largest Shipyard in Quinnsville. Continuing from there I made my way to the Pier to check into the trading situation. It was not teeming with activity, but it seems that with some small adjustments, Quinnsville could be turned into quite the trading hub. Finally I made my way through the city and noticed a certain lack of important government building such a town hall and proper schools for the children. There are also no research centers for any of the native plants of the island. What this settlement really needs is proper leadership. Sir Smaugton laid a sturdy foundation from which to build upon, and just from me being here and people hearing that I was looking into the well-being of the area, the settlement has started to grow. While I am finished this part of my task, I hope that I can still be of service to the people of Quinnsville for many years to come. Cooke, RN, After arriving in Quinnsville, I was pleasantly surprised by the military might of the settlement. While the rest of the settlement still needs some tending too, Quinnsville is in no danger of being overrun any time soon. Sir Smaugton must have been a clever man to set up certain measures to keep the troops in order. I first visited the Military Barracks of the 1st Quinnsville Fusiliers. The troops were in perfect order and the building was well constructed and was satisfactory in cleanliness. Following the suggestion of the Sergeant of the barracks, I traveled to the mighty Fort Annetta in Queens Bay. The fortification itself would be able to put quite a hurting on any attacking force. Back on land, I was intrigued by a commotion on the street and to my surprise there was a parade going on! After inquiring with the locals and discovering that it was a graduation ceremony of the 1st Quinnsville Dragoons of a nearby military academy. After attending a lecture of military strategy, I am even more convinced that Quinnsville will become the strongest and safest settlement in all of the New World. I have completed my assignment and will stand by in Quinnsville while awaiting further orders. Quinnsville Gunboats With tensions always high on the Brick Seas with constant threats of pirate attacks, some settlements are deploying small gunboats and gun sloops to help protect local waters. Quinnsville has recently launched 3 new gunboats for the purpose of protecting their harbor. Gunboat 10 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr They were all three built differently in order to pull on strengths of different sizes and maneuverability in the heat of battle. Gunboat 4 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Gunboat 5 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr They all feature a frontward facing cannon and the rear is protected by a quick firing deck gun for extra protection. Quinnsville Pier and Storehouse QV6.1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr After his trip to the timber plantation, Richard Brickford's next stop was the local pier. He arrived just in time to greet his most trusted employee, Ralph Clutchington, who had just came into port. For it's size the pier was quite busy. Goods were being moved and deals were being struck. Only one boat was docked at this particular section of the jetty, but it was also a slow time in trade. QV6.2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr The lone boat that was docked was piloted by an old salty sailor who demanded to be referred to as Captain, even though his ship was no bigger than a dingy. QV6.4 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr There was a large storehouse as well a clock tower on this portion of the wharf and everything was kept in order by the lone guard on duty. Dear Governor Cooke, I have looked over the trade situation in Quinnsville. While the wharfs and docks are not filled to capacity, they are still operating at about one-third of their potential. The storehouses seems relatively full for the amount of trade going on at this time. The structures themselves are in quite good condition, which can of course be attributed to Sir Smaugton's guidance. The clock tower on the wharf is in full working order and the wooden dock is free of rot. There are some peculiar people in Quinnsville though... There is one old sailor who pilots a boat barely larger than a dingy, but demands to be called Captain. No one even knows his real name... From here I will continue on to the shipyards and see what kind of ships Quinnsville is producing. Quinnsville Shipyard Quinnsville, long known for it's seafaring history with the many voyages of the retired Junkyard Fleet, will now have the means to produce high quality vessels at a competitive rate thanks to the new shipyard! He was Sailing under both the flag of the Empire of Corrington, as well as the MAESTRO trade company which still holds a slight presence in the settlement. Mayor Smaugton contributed to much of the town's progress, but sadly, the Pearl of Cocovia had not seen much development since the retirement and mysterious disappearance of it's beloved mayor. Fortunately, one Richard Brickford, volunteered to step in and nurse the abandoned settlement back to health. Now under his leadership Quinnsville has quickly risen to prominence on Cocovia and is a flourishing settlement on the verge of becoming one of the few Grand Cities of Corrington. Fort Annetta in Queens bay QV12.1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr After a reassuring visit to the barracks of the 1st Quinnsville Fusiliers, Captain Nathaniel Brickford's next stop was the newly completed Fort Annetta. QV12.2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Situated on a rocky island in Queens Bay, it made the perfect spot for a defensive position. It is only accessible by boat during high tide and is heavily guarded. QV12.3 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr There is a small guardhouse before the main entrance to the fort. Behind it is a favorite fishing spot for some of the stationed troops. QV12.4 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Having been recently completed, the main living area hasn't been fully completed so the men have to sleep in the main courtyard. QV12.5 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr The basement, which will be used for the main living quarters, is currently a storage area with boxes and crates of supplies to be unboxed and set up. Dear Captain Jno. Cooke, RN, I have just finished my visit to the newest defensive position in Quinnsville, Fort Annetta. Having been recently completed, the interior is still being set up, but the guns are set up and in full working order. Before too long it will be able to adequately defend the entirety of Queens Bay along with the other small forts that are nearby. I will be heading back to the military district of Quinnsville and will update you again with my finding. So far I am quite pleased with how Sir Smaugton left the fortifications of the settlement. Military Academy QV14.1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Shortly after watching the spectacle on the parade route, Nathaniel made his way the nearby military academy. It was built in the same style as the military barracks and looked relatively new, which was confirmed by the 617 above the large front doors. It was being given by the headmaster, who looked as if he knew exactly what he was talking about. QV14.3 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr The cadets were listening attentively to the words of the headmaster, if then didn't they would probably quickly be brought back in line. Dear Captain Jno. Cooke, RN, I have found out that a military academy has been built in Quinnsville quite recently. The very first graduating class was just last week. The building is quite nice, and from the lectures I sat in on, the cadets are being taught the latest tactics in military strategy. I have only a few stops left in my assessment of the defenses of Quinnsville, and then I will assist my father in his duties as well. Our final report on Quinnsville shouldn't be too much longer. Parade Route QV13.1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr As Captain Brickford was making his way back from Fort Annetta, he was drawn to a commotion on a sectioned off portion of road. QV13.2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr After asking some of the bystanders what was going on, he discovered that it was a graduating parade for the 1st Quinnsville Dragoons of a nearby military academy. Quinnsville Chronicler QV4.1 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr While on his way home for the day after observing the building process at the shipyards, Richard Brickford passed by a old looking building. The sign was well worn but he could make out the words Quinnsville Chronicler. With his interest piqued, he walked up and opened the door. QV4.2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr When inside, he started to look around. There was a desk towards the back of the room, so Richard figured that would be a good place to start. After sifting through some papers, he realized that this was the printing house of the now non-existing newspaper of Quinnsville! Upstairs were stacks of the final edition of the Quinnsville Chronicler as well as copies still on the printing presses. I believe that one of the reasons that Quinnsville has been a little slower in development is because they have a lack of news circulating through the settlement. If this can be rectified, I believe that the settlement will explode with growth. My final report will be in before the week is out. I think you will be most pleased with my findings. Ship level increase build Ship increase by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr With the new shipyard that was built in Quinnsville, there would need to be more men in order to sail the ships that were being built! Long know as a seafaring town, it was no surprise that able-bodied men willing signed up aboard these new vessels. This is just a small vignette to show my personal ship level increase. Quinnsville Cocoa Plantation QV3.5 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr After safely arriving in Quinnsville via the Cocovia Wagon Way, Richard and Nathaniel Brickford set about going straight to work. While Richard went off to see about a place to stay until a proper house could be built, Nathaniel went off for a walk to stretch his legs after the sitting for so long. He ended up following his nose to a cocoa plantation on the outskirts of the settlement. He found the manager of the plantation and promptly asked for a tour of the area. He wrote down his findings in his notes and composed his first letter to Captain Cooke on Quinnsville. QV3.2 by LM71Blackbird, on Flickr Dear Captain Jno. Cooke, RN, The state of Quinnsville is better off then originally perceived. While it has not seen very much growth since the retirement and sudden disappearance of Sir Smaugton, the settlement is operating business as usual. Just today I had the chance to tour one of the many cocoa plantations spread throughout the settlement. While the techniques that they use are still rather primitive, they effectively harvest vast amounts of raw cocoa each day. On a whole, I believe the entire settlement will be similar in the lack of modern conveniences, but that should be a relatively easy fix, given time and some dedicated care. I will begin the inspection of the fortifications and the troops before the week is out. Hopefully the lack of proper leadership has not made them relax in their regular duties and drills. Cooke has finally arrived in Quinnsville, and after apologizing for his extensive delay, he is now discussing the state of the settlement in particular, and Cocovia in general with the mayor. As might have been guessed, Smaugton was not happy with such shabby treatment, but assurances that the delay was due to official duties soon turned Smaugton back to his old cheery self. Cooke is somewhat concerned with the morals of Quinnsville, seeing the number of bars, pubs, and houses of pleasure, and the very public display of various vices, but Sir Smaugton is assuring him that everything is under control. They are touring the settlement, and has currently reached the outskirts, where a baker has set up a considerable house and bakery just by the palisade surrounding the settlement. "Sir Smaugton, I very much respect what you have achieved here, and I mean no disrespect but... I am certain I saw a courtesan conducting... business just around the corner." Cooke exclaimed. "Could not such... services be offered more discreetly?" Laughing merrily, Smaugton replied: "My dear Governor Cooke, I assure you everything here is perfectly under control. We have to let the populace have their entertainment. Otherwise, life in the colonies can grow insufferably dull!" "I suppose so...." Eyeing Smaugton for a moment, Cooke sighed before continuing. "Might I ask you to inform me of the defences of the settlement? Fortifications, troops, militia, gunboats, the sorts." "Of course. As you have undoubtedly noticed, just behind you, we have the city wall, or palisade. As to troops available, there is...." Smaugton explained, going over the defences of Quinnsville. ___________________ Finally got Cooke to Quinnsville as promised a looong time ago. Being commander for all forces on Cocovia, it was about time. It will be licensed as a medium artisan. C&C welcome.
