  1. That is a nice map @Mike S I've added it to the opening post. (unless you rather I hadn't?)
  2. Map with location is up in the settlement thread. Also a map with the result of the work of dr. Anderson and James. enjoy.
  3. @Capt Wolf I know, I just posted in exactly that thread :D
  4. I think he ment that April's growth gets added on 30 april/1 may. ?
  5. Sorry to bump this thread, but it's more relevant here. As you may have noticed I started a settlement on Sabre Island (previously uninhabited/uncolonised) The geographical features set out in this topic confuse me. Firstly Fever Island and Sabre Island use the same map. But I figured that one out by comparing it to the MRCA map. So I drew a rudementry border. But then I cannot see a sabre shape in Sabre Island, atleast not one that fits the above description. I scribbled on the map to explain. sabre island 2 It looks to me that Sabre Island consists of 5 pieces, (3 and 4 connected by a land bridge?) When reading the description, the eastern-most island to me is no. 5 and the western-most no 1 could someone enlighten me?
  6. I'll make dr. Anderson draw a map then :)
  7. This is up to you (and your faction). :) Quote from Bregir from this thread: https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/160463-sr-fb-hydrographic-exploring-on-sabre-island/&tab=comments#comment-2947634 So has faction leadership any opinion?
  8. Thank you @Bregir I maybe should have given the terrain details the same attention I put in the campsite. But I wanted to show the story, so in my excitement I continued with the next scene too soon. Do I have to say where on Sabre Island Poppy Port is located or does the Court decide that? If I should, then I'll let dr. Anderson draw up a map of the harbour soundings and the markers. Bart
  9. thanks @Phred that was faster then I expected :) Large educational in Poppy Port, owned by Poppy Port
  10. okay explaining the Education category like that, makes it the most fitting indeed. thank you, it was fun making this story too ;) https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/160490-settlement-poppy-port-sabre-island-sea-rats/ Thanks for the work you do on the bobs bookkeeping! So on the property license form I just fill in 'Poppy Port' in the Builder box? (I thought that had to be your EB name)
  11. Name: Poppy Port Ownership: Sea Rats Location: Sabre Island Mayor: Rodsh Derr @Bart Settlement status: Hamlet founded 4 April 618 Town since 21 July 618 Who can own property in Poppy Port: Anyone. Who can freebuild in Poppy Port: Anyone. Description: The first settlement of Sabre-Island, the harbour may be tricky to reach due to rocky formations and reefs near and under the water surface, but a recent hydrographic survey has charted them carefully and has placed two markers to guide ships trough a save passage to the harbour. The harbour has ample supply of fresh water and is capable of receiving deep drafted vessels. Rumours have it that there are fortunes to be made on Sabre Island, and Poppy Port is it's open front door. Geographical Features: Featuring blunt cliffs on several sides, the Hilt (the eastern-most Island in this chain) features a tall, dormant volcano. The Blade (The Westernmost Island) also features a more eroded dormant volcano on the east side, but gradually slides into the waves going west. The archipelago rests in the thick of a coral reef, whose unpredictable depth has already been the grounding of more than one large vessel. The Island itself is fertile and could grow sugar cane quite well. Rumours: A roguish band of ship scavengers has been operating out of "The Hilt", preying on the ships that wreck in the reef. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Precious little remains of those ships that did ground in the waters surrounding "The Hilt and the Blade"
  12. Thank you. I had to look up BURP, and to be honest I don't agree with the 'U' part. I was aiming a bit more towards a Lego set feeling here, and I thought the rocks being squareish there and sloped at the beach, was because of the sea eroded them at beach level. I had my doubts about the size, that's why I asked :) thanks for your input, although contrary to @Drunknok I'm happy with both opinions. It doesn't veel educational to me, therefore there should be some form of teaching done. as James being taught how to do this, instead of being used as a labourer. And yes I'm sure about the name Poppy Port, it has reasons :D But I actually want the new town to get the db's is that uncommon? you can always transfer them to the personal account when there is a need for cash, using a transfer form isn't it? * so the form doesn't give the option to license things for the town or trade company you own? there is a need for manual labour from one of the court members or their clergy?
  13. Kwatchi on the Narwal the headrails only curve vertical. they start out going straight down (connected with a regullar 1x1 clip) make the curve down and forward, ending straight up vertically again behind the figure head. I don't know if you have any longer pieces of those flexible shafts? but if you do then try to start them in the black line near that anchor chain. and then towards that headlight, see what that does.
  14. Thanks :) Thank you. James is getting payed handsomely for his efforts do ;) The water may indeed have deserved some more attention. transparant layers are doable in LDD, only the rendering sometimes trows in a strange effect. I think I'll be going for Art&Culture, that way I'm leaving the doctor and James free for more exploring, because they turned out to be quit fun characters. * I was looking at the licensing form, but how does one license something and make the town the owner instead of me?
  15. Nice build, showing all kinds of Easter things. The fire looks nice, but the Efires I experienced where (much) bigger ;) but that doesn't mean your is to small! for the minifigs just fine I think. lol on the crabs with hats
  16. Poppy Port – Sabre Island (zone 26) – Sea-Rats Hydrographic exploring Poppy port - Hydrographic exploring by Bart, on Flickr dr. Anderson: Well hurry up with those boxes will you James. James between his puffing: Yes, doctor. dr. Anderson: This looks like the ideal spot! Fresh water, flat beach, deep ocean waters near the coast, only some rocky patches that need attention. James I want the tent where you put those boxes. James: Urgh.. yes, doctor. dr. Anderson: Oh and I want to be on top of that hill before noon, which I reckon is in forty… six! minutes. Bring my gear James! James grunts as a response. Poppy Port - Hydrographic exploring 2 by Bart, on Flickr dr. Anderson: This will do, this will do just fine. James, we will build the first marker, point Alfa, right here! James knowing that ‘we’ meant ‘him’ in those words, was just happy he could’ve catched his breath will the doctor was doing his measurements. Poppy Port - Hydrographic exploring 3 by Bart, on Flickr James: What is this marker Alfa for doctor? dr. Anderson: For us to use as a point zero from where we will make all our measurements. James: Measurements? dr. Anderson: Yes we’ll go out in our boat, and make depth soundings at regular spacing, so we can draw up a map of this new harbour. James knowing that meant rowing, and rowing and more rowing didn’t really look forward to the idea. James: Why do we need a harbour here anyway doctor? dr. Anderson: Oh well there isn’t anybody here that could eavesdrop on us, but our contractor Mrs. Derr thinks there is a money to be made from commodities from this island. And to take those commodities off the island one needs ships, and ships need harbours. Poppy Port - Hydrographic exploring 4 by Bart, on Flickr dr Anderson: James if we put another marker right on this rock here, marker Alfa and this new one… James: Delta, doctor? dr. Anderson: Yes Delta sounds good. Well those two Alfa and Delta will form a line, indication a save passage through the rocks we charted, and ships can use them to enter this Harbour. James: So ‘we’ have to build another marker? dr. Anderson: Excellent idea James, if you can start getting the necessary tools and supplies. I’ll be there in a moment. James: Yeah sure. Poppy Port - Hydrographic exploring 5 by Bart, on Flickr So this is the build I want to start a new settlement ‘Poppy Port’ with, on Sabre Island (Sea Rats-zone 26). But how on earth do I license this? It’s a 48x48 base plate, but half of it is water (aka bare baseplate). Do I license the doctor and James their activities as hydrographic surveyors i.e. artisan or do I license the structures, marker Alfa and Delta as art’s and crafts (as they are the permanent builds) Or do people think this isn’t enough to start a settlement, then I’d like to hear that too. I know I know I could’ve build something easier to license, but I had this idea. And building out my ideas comes before wondering how it fits into the game, sorry. *if people think, why are those markers that big! Well you had to be able to see them from quit a distance, and then measure angles with the sextant to find out your position. I believe them to be accurate in size and appearance, in real life they would have been made of a light wood construction covered with linen painted black.
  17. Excellent statue! and good job on the landscaping around it. I like how you used different textures.
  18. @Bregir That is extremely well done! very accurate to real ships.
  19. aha now I understand the question better. sewing it onto the fore stay might be a good option, if you are up for it. or a few stitches in the lower forward corner to connect it to the bowsprit, and a stich with a small line to hoist the sail along the stay. *option for the future as you've already cut the sails, leaving a small edge extra on the forward, to fold around the stay and glue it back on the sail. Bart
  20. I didn't even notice the grid! I've used the headlights facing done technique on my last ship, but the 1x1's upside done gives nice square holes, (and it fits easier into a deck) compared to the rectangular headlights. you may accuse me of copying it too in the near future :p
  21. Thank you both :)
  22. @Flavius Gratian could you post a picture of what you've got, as there are several ways to put jibs depending on ship's style type age etc. It would be easier to help you out that way.
  23. I really like your micro builds, both the botanical gardens as the plantation with the circular irrigration system. your tree with the beehive is just excellent with all the colours.
  24. very nice house, the first time I opend this topic the first picture didn't load, so I started with the tent scene, and later zoomed out to get the house in view.
  25. Thanks, the dolphins where the last addition, as i found the space infront of the ship too empty. I take that as a compliant! Don't think it came easy to me either, there where a lot of alternative versions before I got it here. Stuns'ls are set at very light wind, to catch every bit of moving air and give the ship a minimum movement. But as you can see there is plenty wind, the courses (lower sails on the fore and main mast) are furled on their yards, the lowest jib isn't set, and the gafftopsail of the spanker is also still secured. the stuns'l yards are in their stored position, to fly the stunsails they are slided out. I thought it gave the ship a bit more character to have them there. Thank you! I'm happy you like the sails, the triangle shaped ones on the DMDR 6 somehow where easier, maybe because there werent any expactions yet. I first had cockbilled the yards (moved to horizontal to better catch the wind, in this case lift up the portside to create an angle of 5 degrees the same as her list) but with the squareness of the bricks where the sails are made from it looked awefull I did keep the fanning though, (going up every yard is turned a little more because the wind blows harder on top and therefore the relative angle changes)
