  1. I just recently got both those sets when they had a repeat of the Year of the Ox promo in Europe, it was sold out quick at release. At that price the Nian set would be a great parts pack for sure (it's €80 here at LEGO.com), I just built it recently but it has good amount of grey wall bricks and larger white plates/wings. I'm going to build the Spring Lantern set soon (it's €110 here at LEGO.com), and it has 1 and a half baseplate. I can imagine the sets being more seasonal in Asia however, since the year of the Ox is only once every 12 year, and the spring lantern set has figures with 2021 on it, so maybe less popular after the celebrations are over but that's just my theory. (maybe a bit similar to how LEGO Advent Calendars go on discount after christmas as well)
  2. Yes, the battlements, and the higher towers + living space, especially the green corner makes it look like a brick-built version of a Raised baseplate.
  3. As also posted by Friscorays, Typewriter was revealed. Not my "type" of set, but it's good they printed the 32 tiles for the keys. (31 different prints, Shift Key x2) Also on Brickset: https://brickset.com/article/59826/21327-typewriter-announced!
  4. I think the LEGO set is mostly pointing to the Football riots in England or Netherlands , Shell is a British/Dutch company, and the minifig drawn on the box also point to England/Dutch national team : It also was a limited set, I don't think LEGO would make regular set like that now. Netherlands (orange shirt and KNVB logo) England (england flag on shirt)
  5. There is no specific football police here, but rather anti riot police, football just happens to be one of those sports where riots between clubs/cities weren't a rare sight and riot police was used. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_hooliganism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riot_police
  6. Another easy mod if you have set 31105: Townhouse Toy Store parts, would be to replace the tower roof with the higher corner slopes for a more pointy look. The set has 4 of each of those 31118: Surfer Beach House also has a decent amount of darkblue slopes, and yellow/brown parts to fit within the color scheme of extra housing.
  7. Great way to add the large tower while keeping the shape of the original, I'm a big fan of Warcraft designs and always imagine those larger enclosed towers as a Mage/Wizard study area. I like how this has extra little rooms and still good access to them, while also keeping a great look. The higher walls give off even more of an impression of a raised baseplate, especially on the green slope corner.
  8. Great way to use existing parts without needing the old palm base. Xtra has had plant parts in multiple versions so far (2018 and 2020), if there will be a new Xtra Botanical set possibly 2022 I do hope this time it has 4 palm leaves and maybe one of those bushes in Tan.
  9. Will get the set later when there's a new GWP offer (I just recent bought the Chinese New year sets before June) but beside the minifigs, I still love that it has very "basic" parts in multiples. 11 Colors : 1x2 brick - x9 2x3 brick - x4 2x2 tile - x5-6 1x2 plate - x2 1x2 tile - x1 or x3 1x3x2 arch - x2 1x10 brick Tan - x8 And even some nice large white plates like 16x16 and 6x16
  10. That 3314 set was so weird, from the Shell limited sets , clearly based on the Dutch Mobiele Eenheid "ME" police at the time, with the helmets, round shields and blue vans.
  11. For a 6 wide, that RR is great, those clip/bar doors work great as well.
  12. City had a Soccer Sticker in the 2020 Service station, and a Stadium Comic with the 2019 Lawnmower (magazine). Also consider if things go as planned, there will be 2 Olympics (Tokyo 2021 Summer / Beijing 2022 Winter) and 2 Soccer (Euro 2021 , World Cup Qatar 2022) in the span of about 1.5 years.
  13. I hope for some Volkswagen car, LEGO has done many Beetles and Surfer Bus, but I'd love to see a classic VW Golf GTI (like the AUDI rally car) or maybe one of those new Electric cars (ID3/ID4/ID5 etc) Formula 1 car would be nice as well (I'd prefer Ferrari or Red Bull) but not a 2 pack like the Jaguar. If LEGO would make Speed Champion trucks, something DAKAR rally might work.
  14. Awesome way this is puzzled together using LEGO "math" within the parts shapes and sizes.
  15. Love those cars, really can see how 8 wide gives more options. Also nice how all those cars have different headlights and don't use stickers for them. (I just dont like the sticker headlights on the official sets)
  16. 2019 had Ultrakatty using 2 high 1x5 bricks, so a normal height brick next makes sense, after the 1x5 plate this year.
  17. I'm planning to get this set as well, 2 monkeys / scorpion in a small set is nice indeed, and I do always like small rock/plant side builds. I agree with the lack of the hairpiece is sometimes annoying. I do have the 60288: Race Buggy Transporter set with the turning wheels and they do indeed work well, really reminds me of the older metal-springs but in a more modern variant.
  18. 5004419: Classic Knights Minifigure is my only Modern "Classic" Castle set (beside Nexo) so for now I added it to the Blacksmith as well.
  19. Friends got 2 hospitals in 3 years between (2017 and 2020), and City got a Hospital in 2018 and in 2019 the ski resort had a building dedicated to medical, so I don't think the 6 year period is really set in stone anymore. I think if there still will be more City sets this year, they will appear seperately out of nowhere like the Main Square did, and those Elite Police sets last year, maybe they'll show it at LEGO-Con, and not just the Stuntz sets. Or maybe they will be part of the Winter 2022 wave as in Europe those sets usually release around December 26 which would make the Advent microscales still relevant too. Also this came out this year :
  20. I was already planning to expand/modify the Castle, this seems easy enough with parts from just the Blacksmith (as it's too big for this Castle scale and I will re-use it's parts)
  21. I didn't like last year calendar, but if they will use microscales of old sets, I think they end up even weaker, unless people actively follow LEGO sets history, it's weird to put in 3-4 old sets that have been retired for over a year. Last year, and 2018 used microscale of sets from the same year. I prefer small but useful builds like the 2019 calendar instead of microscales, maybe the Friends Calendar will have that.
  22. This set is just so good, very multi-build and moddable. I don't have a whole lot of "Classic" Castle parts (beside NEXO Knights and other City/Creator sets), and Ninjago Season 13 (Skull Sorcerer Dungeon subtheme for rocks and such), but this is basic enough to customize as it doesn't really use specialized huge pieces. I do like the green "rock" parts as well, can be used to give a bit of a classic Raised Baseplate look to custom builds. But yeah, even the mega-build looks amazing, and I'm sure there's enough leftover to make something interesting.
  23. Yeah I hope next year will have some more Town buildings again , 2022 would be 5 years since 2017, which was the last big year with multiple 3in1 "family" houses (2018 still had skate house/skihouse/cake shop however) And while I do hope the Castle/Pirates/Space sets continue, right now 3in1 seems to try to cover too many styles and subjects at once. 2021 having no Creator Townhouse sets somewhat makes sense with the big introduction of City roads / buildings etc, but I do hope that wasn't the end of Creator Town sets.
  24. The Stuntz truck seems directly inspired by the LEGO Island Xtreme truck, which would be 20 years old in 2022. https://brickset.com/sets/6739-1/Truck-Stunt-Trikes Also the Rocket Racer will probably be very popular due to LEGO Racers game. Overall I like the idea behind the theme (being a big fan of Trials bike stunt video games, which allow building own race tracks), but intially seems pricey due to the Flywheel tech behind it.
  25. By the time it's Christmas 2021, the 2018 hospital has retired 2 full years, makes zero sense to put it in the calendar with 2021 set models. A hospital probably would show up later like the Ski Resort, Main Square etc have, maybe at LEGO-Con. And since the last 2018 City Hospital came 1 year after the Friends 2017 Hospital, wouldn't surprise me to have a 2021 City Hospital appear after the 2020 Friends Hospital The main thing that makes me doubt however it looks like there's a microscale yellow green bus , which was from 2017, unless there's going to be a new one too.
