LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Another list of retiring and possibly retiring sets : https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-sets-retiring-in-2020/ Now looking at it from another perspective, City 2019 sets that I don't see listed: Fire Station Downtown Fire Brigade Harvester Transport Diving Yacht Garbage Truck 4+ Police Patrol Car Kayak Adventure Desert Rally Racer 2018 City Train related sets are sticking around for another year also. Sets on the list I do hope retire (from the maybe section) Sky Police Air Base -
There is a big difference between a single aircraft, or labeling the entire Boeing (which has like only 34% of defense revenue according to their 2019 Financial report). I don't agree with DFG-K painting the entirety of Boeing as off-limits, but I can see criticism of a particular military vehicle when it has a label on it, because that ties LEGO together with real-world users/companies of said aircraft. And it has been made before under City in 2013, (60021) and even reviews say it's a V-22 but I haven't seen backlash on that set, or even the more recent Creator 3-in-1 "F-35" lookalike. Now, I am myself fine with the set, there's no Boeing/Bell/V-22 Osprey text anywhere on the model anyway, but I can still understand the slippery slope of linking it to a real world model like that on the box.

The Advent Calendar really isn't a secret, at least the single (small) picture is publicly available via LEGO's own digital catalogs.

Exactly, there are tons of companies who make both civilian and defense products, and where Defense is only a fraction of it's total revenue. Examples include companies like Airbus, Boeing, Kawasaki, Mitshubitsi are much more known for it's Airplanes / Motorcycles / Cars and not it's Military Jets / Submarines / Tanks. It's a bit silly to find every military connection to a license, and of course the V22 is an actual mainly military used vehicle, but I'm sure some people would complain to LEGO no matter what.
-
I know its a commercial passenger jet compared to a military transport aircraft, that wasn't my point. It was more about the Boeing license potentially looking bad now, not the subject matter, unless they manage to solve this professionally without simply erasing the set. Still, I don't think this is Boeing/Bell at fault here, as ultimately it's LEGO who makes & publishes the sets, and those companies majority of products aren't even Defense related. This isn't the first Boeing set either, it goes back as far as 1974.
-
This won't just have effect on a single set, but also potentially hurts something like the Southwest 737-800 IDEAS project that just hit 10.000 votes 2 weeks ago. And I'm not saying that because there happens to be a C-40 version of it, but more like the license Boeing won't look too great now unless there's an official solution/article.

31039: Blue Power Jet was basicly an F-35 it just never was officially called like that. And LEGO has made other models with appearance similar to other Jets/Attack Helicopters Even the 2019 Sky Police used a helicopter somewhat similar to a Bell AH-1Z Viper, and also some type of Fighter jet. Also there have been numerous helicopters similar to a Boeing CH-47 Chinook in sets, even as recent as 2020 with the Black Widow set. But the main difference must be, they were never officially designated as real-life licensed vehicles unlike this Technic set.

Lego Ideas Support Thread - Historical/Castle
TeriXeri replied to leafan's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Certainly seeing a nice surge in Castle projects above 1k-5k, hope the popularity keeps up. While we still get the Medieval Blacksmith set at some point (probably 2021), a Classic Knight's Castle would be nice to see for sure, and I did just support a whole lot I missed. Also there's still The Castle in the Forest in Review.- 532 replies

Why are LEGO Elves sets so Sought After?
TeriXeri replied to Lego David's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Overall, it looks like demand for Castle sets is growing again. Especially on IDEAS, some relatively new Castle-themed projects already made it to 2000-5000+ , and most are non-licensed. I do hope 2021 will bring something new in the Fantasy lineup, by then Frozen II sets are probably retired. I can see similarities in Disney Princess/Frozen II sets compared to Elves, for example the Tree House, but those Disney sets still look less interesting and are way overpriced imo. -
US/Canada use different boxes , for example the parts count on the front of the box is mandatory there. Different paper sizes for instructions ,shown online as V39 (US/Canada Market) or V29 (Rest of the world) Also there are different regulations on warnings like small parts / choking hazard etc. So they can't just put European sets in US shops. Also European market also still has some production backorders, particularly on newer, larger sets.

LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Mexico Factory (the only factory in North/South America) was closed for a while so set production seems behind as far as I've seen (based on the large amount of "Coming Soon" and Out of Stock on the US site) Even in Europe some larger sets are still on backorders. Last year there was no Covid. -
LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Gaps do sometimes happen, but I hope you're right, the 2018 and 2019 Advent Calendar numbers were next to a People Pack number, so I hope they'll still make them instead of silently stopping them. Also gaps can still fill later, which happpened for the September 2019 Ski Resort which filled a gap between 2018 sets. So the possibility still exists, I do hope for a winter-themed people pack, as the City Advent Calendar (60628) seems pretty bare this year. (pictures can be found in second half of 2020 online catalogs) Personally, this year I might get the Friends Advent Calendar instead of City, as it does focus on minifig/minidoll builds, after 2 years of being mostly tree-hanger ornaments. -
Why all the hate for Legends of Chima?
TeriXeri replied to Lego David's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Chima retired when I came back into LEGO, but now looking at it, I'm a big fan of the minifig sets, especially the locations (Lion Chi Temple / Outland Base / Croc Swamp Hideout), and small sets like Tribe Packs. Overall, the theme looks very varied, with Constraction, Speedorz, Tribe Packs, Legend Beasts and a mix of vehicles and locations. Speedorz look to have some nice builds as well, but look pretty expensive in terms of price/volume, and there were 26 different Speedorz sets. I can see reasons of poor sales of some sets, when there could be a case of too many different sets at the same time, especially Speedorz, 2013 alone had 16 of them. -

60268 is confirmed as the Advent Calendar (Stonewars has it listed as 60269 but that's a mistake) so 60269 might not even exist. -

LEGO Creator 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Built all 3 variants of 31105: Townhouse Toy Store , I do like that LEGO continued the system of being able to connect them to the 3 builds from sets like 31097 Townhouse Pet Shop & Café. The downside of the 2 alternate builds are being corners, they only can connect officially on 1 side. But I do hope they'll continue this system for at least 2021. -
Most of those look to be the later version of Exo Force arms still in many sets now, as they got the thicker support : https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=98313 The brown one looks like the older model : https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=53989

LEGO Hidden Side 2020
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Sometimes I wonder if it's all scheduled ahead, and then some License has to take it's place early, like Harry Potter re-appearing after Nexo and Elves retired. And then Hidden Side making place for something related like Ghostbuster or Scooby Doo or something. (I don't really follow all new movies/series so I don't know what's coming up, just examples) I'm personally not into licensed themes but it does seem a bit strange. Like LEGO Space re-appeared when Star Wars was in a bit of a break a few years after episode 3. Still, not having proper endings isn't good, in the situation of Nexo Knights, there were even pictures, names and descriptions of Forest monsters and Sea monsters, instead LEGO made those tech-vampires out of nowhere. -
LEGO Hidden Side 2020
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Wave 1 sets already regularly reached 40-50% off here, so I don't know if that's an indication of poor sales, but it almost felt similar to LEGO Movie 2 in terms of discounts. LEGO Movie 2 was ended very short as by the end of 2019 it was gone completely from LEGO.com (after even 40% off there), and now retailers still try to get rid of it at 50% off. I didn't pick up many sets myself (Shrimp Shack / Hidden Side Portal Tree), but I'm still looking at other sets like the Castle / Prison if it hits big discounts due to ending early. -
LEGO Movie 2 Brickheadz were exclusive to Target and Walmart, and only 5000 produced each. https://brickarchitect.com/2019/2019-year-of-the-exclusives/

LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Ok, sets that apparently will be end-of-life at the end of 2020. Article says it's not guaranteed so things could change. https://www.stonewars.de/news/lego-end-of-life-eol-2020/#lego-city The main thing that gets my attention are the possibly retiring of the road plates. I know the same ones have been around since 2005 , 7280-1: Straight & Crossroad Plates + 7281-1: T-Junction & Curved Road Plates were sold until the end of 2018. 2019 repacked them in a different configuration , 60236-1: Straight & T-Junction + 60237-1: Curves & Crossroad Now, the question is what will happen next if they end up retiring. Personally I hope they'll do either 2 things : Sell road plates as 2-packs of the same (2 straight , 2 curve, 2 T-Junction , 2 Crossroad) like the old days. Or make entirely new design and still sell them as 2-packs as well. I know many people will not like a change of road plates as they already got big layouts, but LEGO has changed their road plates multiple times before, I think after 16 years in 2021, something new might be nice. But just like Train Tracks, not much might change and they just get a new set number instead. -
While not a new part by mold, the printed shields are by far my favorite print of this season.
